Captain’s got his hair pulled back like a psychedelic Mozart. What a wizard that man was (and still is 😉). Never will there be another band to grace the stage like the Dead. Never! 💀⚡️🌹
Stephen Marley recently said in an interview that Bob Weir really reminded him of his father I love Bobby man but yeah I bet you he's loving that is a pretty cool compliment y'all
No one does Rooster like the Dead..Real blues, its all about Brent for me, love when he takes the verse n nails the solo..Good example of Brent era Dead.
Captain frets yo ol Jer-bear was a virtuoso musician he kinda liked to keep it mellow but he has got them chops that are more than mere notation in a chord or scale that he was taught or learned his riffin style He must have hung around with some Louisiana New Orleans musicians when he was a kid Something that never was able to verify but I had to be some kind of voodoo to have lit his flame I still remember where I was the time of day How overcast the sky was in TN the day back hearing Jerry Garcia passed away I never as a kid was the biggest dead head around but growing up on the hippy farm back in tn You couldn't help but feel connected to the sound of GD and the emotions I felt was when he died I have since played organ and piano in more than one dead cover band and am well acquainted with learning most of the repertoire or roster of songs Among those Little Red rooster was the main song I would be tasked with singing
Yeah between riffin on the organ and shooting some Persian I imagine he was plumb Skippy Brent was the best keyboard for the GD making the Hammond organ scream with exactly the correct overdrive level to weaponize that som'a'buck
Real music. Real musicians. No fluff, no explosions, and no background dancers causing a spectacle. Just real gifted musicians laying it down and that's it! The Dead loved doing this and there will never be anything like them and the joy they brought ever again.
I love Brent more and more every time I hear him play that organ. This is probably my favorite version of this song although there are quite a few that are real close.
Fanfriggintastic!!! Oh, I am sooooo grateful to have come across this today!! Bless you, and God bless the Grateful Dead!!! ❤ (I love it all, from Bobby's 1980s short shorts, to the look on Mickey's face with his mullet in a ponytail, to Tigerlily, to Brent stealing the face off the show around the 3:40 mark!!!) *Smile, smile, smile :)
what is the little toggle switch Brent keeps switching back and forth? its on the lower left side of his organ...when he solos he keeps messing with it...what does that do? what an amazing instrument it is; and he really is amazing on it...all soul.
H Cat Hey man, 7 years later, that’s the speed control for his Leslie speaker (the special spinning speakers used for Hammond organs) you can see one behind Phil at 2:44. The speed controls the speed of the spin and creates the watery sound that the Hammond is known for
@@pauzer922 4 months later... Thanks for the info! I think that will be a good thing to know, especially for my keyboardist girlfriend who LOOOVEs Brent's sound!
This place got blown the hell up after this show went down......l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y.! or did Brent blow it up? 100,000 deadheads at this show........EPIC!

Ha. Once he was above the frets and it went to the IV it ‘twas a bit rough. But it’s Bobby doing his Bobby thing 🤷🏻♂️. Jerry recovers and rounds it out just fine.
One of the best Mydland solos I've ever heard
James Vollkommer
Brent was the man.

The whole band was on fire in 89... Spring energy, Summer heat, and the bust outs in the Fall... jeezus
Has anybody had or ever will have a string of performances like Brent in 89?
Jesus.....when Brent started singing.....goosebumps

Man Brent killed it every day. God bless him one of a kind.
The last of the song Bill and Brent laughing. The vibes must have been right on.
Indeed. “Just a Little Light.”
Clapton and Stones
Never seen Jerry kill the slide like that. Amazing. 🔥🔥🔥

Brent's smirk to Jerry right before he belts "well I doubt" is so fucking cool. It's like he's saying "I'm about to tear this mother fucker up"

hi dad I like Grateful Dead
Version off dead set rips
Real rockstar in a hippie band LOL
Love the double slide with Bob and Jerry plus Brent adding the boards and vocals
Gary Theodore
Absolutely.
Been listening to some fine shows all day while doing work outdoors : )

Fabulous rendition of classic blue song- Bob Weir plays above the fret board with the slide! I have never seen that before!
My Goodness this little red rooster version it's pure Fire thanks
Overly covered by so many but interestingly enough this is the most memorable rendition I ever think of and I know all versions quite well
Sam Cooke's version on the Night Beat album I think is awesome
Brent. That is all.
3:38 brent starts ripping faces!!!!
This is a oldie and a goodie!!!!
Bob & Phil are the fashion plates here! Brent, simply awesome on the Hammond!
So Grateful for the post... This is a fun rooster! God bless the grateful dead!
wow i have listened to this 10 times in a row and my wife keep saying play it again play it again gone with yo bad self mr. brent
This is the shiznit⚘❤⚘
Still amazed every time I watch this one Brett goes nuclear on the keys.
1989 was a great summer
I was at this show. last one at JFK stadium Philly
One of my favorite Philly shows! Dancing, dosin' smokin' and jammin! Bruce n the Range opened the festivities!

BIG RED, SEN DD INN ALL MY LOVE!. 24/7
Sweet version, Thanks for the post ! We left JFK a Brokedown Palace .Structural Damage was what the obituary said . Front page news.
Bobby and his shorty shorts and tank... and of course Phil with the wrist bands... good times indeed
You can see visually Jerry was struggling....Brent is on point. Glory Days😢
Brett wow . 😢
Dare all us Dead Heads hope they tour after it is safe to do so? What better way to celebrate after a long boring lockdown.
This place got blown the hell up after this show went down......l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y.!
or did Brent blow it up?
100,000 deadheads at this show........EPIC!
ExtremeBrushClearing my dad was at this show
Jerry ripping it up
I was there met jerry that year on the 4th july and did few more shows
I just like BM's shirt. haha. great show!
Off their rocker. Lots of good, fun stuff to hear and look at.
One of only a few songs ever in which Bobby's playing could meaningfully be heard.
WOW ! 😍
I second that Ms. LKJ. ✌️
is that knob Brent keeps touching during his solo the speed control for the leslie speaker? just a curious guess
I was there
brent is mr rodgers
pouring maple syrup
on all the hungry pan
cakes upon the skillet
of enchanted delights
I dig it but you don't want to pour the syrup in your skillet especially if it is cast iron
Put syrup on when your cakes have been plated
Maybe syrup wouldn't ruin the seasoning of the skillet cuz it's sugar

Whoooooo!!!!!!!!!
Love it, Billy chill af
I was there.
What a great show it was.
Yeah
We be on this shit
i saw that also, no ideas. some keyboards/organ have whammy bar style distortion toggles... but they don't look like that... must be an effect?
It is a leslie speaker cabinet Brent loved it toggled w his left hand just below keyboard. Dolbyeffect.
Brent was a master at toggling the Leslie switch for that doppler effect.
Musicians of that era worked with what they had, and they were better musicians for it!
I see that leslie spinnin one mo time
is that a 3/4 or a 5/8 ratchet-wrench on jerry' little finger as a slide ???
Lowell George ( Little Feat) used a spark plug socket I believe. Greetings from Aberdeen Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴
This is the best version I've heard of a song that I basically don't like.
TheDrmedina They were really on fire at this point up till Brent’s unfortunate death
Basically? That’s kinda sad. But peace be with you always ✌️.
Brent is the fuckin man!

This is embarrassing. Bob should never have been allowed anywhere near a slide..... Listen to Howlin' Wolf if you want a real version of this
