My oldest is also going into 9th grade! I don’t know how that’s possible... he was just a baby 🤣. I’ve been going back and forth on Apologia and Shormann Science. We also do teaching textbooks (love them!) and starting Nothrass World History. So excited for next year ♥️
Here! He was just a baby I don't know what happened and now he's going to be grade 10! Anyway, Have you found your Japanese program? I hope you can share it too.
My husband was active duty in the Marine Corps. Our first two sons were born in Okinawa! We did two different tours, a total of six years. Such a beautiful place! How cool!
We began Japanese this last semester for my 8th & 4th grader. We use Japanese From Zero. They have 4 levels. I'm dividing it into Japanese 1, 2, 3, & 4. There are textbooks and an online program as well which teaches pronunciation and the lessons. I supplemented with a set of flashcards and a handwriting notebook to practice the characters. My now 5th grade son is blowing us out of the water with how quickly he's learning! Good luck with the coming year.
For Japanese, we are using Genki. They have two books with workbooks and CDs for listening and speaking practice. I looked it up and see that many colleges use book 1 for two semesters and book 2 for 2 semesters. I think I may add an Outschool class or two also.
Ancient History and Literature sounds like such a cool topic! I experienced very much the same thing when I started college--the immense importance of the ability to write a solid, well-argued paper!
We used the thumb drive for the General Science this year and it was PRICELESS! SO worth the money! You guys will love it and wish that they had the thumbdrive for ALL the science courses.
So glad i found your channel...and this video specifically with the Bible curriculum and canon press...I have never heard of them. Going to check that out for my high schooler. Thank you!
This reformed Christian appreciates the new website to explore! Not sure how I missed it! You might really enjoy Paul Washer’s Proverbs Bible study for young people on UA-cam. Slow, but soooo good!
We’re using the same Biology curriculum next school year. I’m excited about the dissections and labs! The student notebook is going to be a lifesaver! We’re also going to try Teaching textbooks for geometry next year.
We are also using Apologia Biology. Science is not my thing. Can you ask your husband how to make sense of the lesson plans? Any tips would be appreciated.
Regarding language, do you have any contacts or friends in Japan still that might be willing to help with language? If so the GPA system is really great and intuitive.
The Pimsleur Method seems to be the most research-based way to learn a foreign language. I found Duolingo and Rosetta Stone were pretty limited in fluency. I would also look into some conversational tutoring with someone who is native born on a site like Italki or Verbling but maybe be in the room to make sure they’re being appropriate since it is a real live person.
I completely agree my kids in 1st and 3rd grade but I have literally been relearning everything. I went to a Christian school till 8th grade and public high school from 9th to 12th. I went from a school that parents always got their way and being literally the only Hispanic in the school for awhile. To public school where most of my private school friends went and they were quick to see the money status difference so lost them. Both educations were sad to say the less. My kids went to Christian school due to our work schedule and the education was amazing but the parents were too caddy and the kids were to advance for my liking in the sense that my now 3rd grades came home asking for a bra in kindergarten since her classmate had one. So in part covid gave us the push to homeschool and not looking back.
I have a high schooler coming new school year and still looking for curriculum and it can be hard as there are so many choices out there. I will be looking into IEW as well and leaning towards apologia biology or another biology online. Not sure yet.
We will be doing Spanish this year, and using teaching languages with miss Mason and Franc, ois by Cherrydale press. Unfortunately they do not offer Japanese.
I am possibly using MFW 9th grade next year as well. Curious on your thoughts why you are not choosing the Bible program included in the package? Thanks!
@@mandy-maltz I am not thrilled about the Bible component in MFW as well. I was raised Pentecostal and am now reformed. Could you please list the replacement curriculum you are using. Thanks!!
We know it does, but we're deciding on another path that more closely follows our beliefs and prepares our high schooler for manhood in his walk with Christ ☺️
Anyone else going to have a HIGH SCHOOLER?! I don't feel old enough for this!

I’m definitely getting a better education the second time around and I’m only up to 1st grade! 😂

Apologia Biology is hefty. It took us more than a year to get through it was so hard.
We love the 101 series for high school

My husband lived in Okinawa for 2 years when he was in the Navy ❤❤ He loves to tell us about it!
It's beautiful there!
I'll have to check out Canon Press for Bible. That's one subject I haven't decided on yet.

Could you please tell me the version of Bible that the scriptures in canon press uses?
Do you have an affiliate link to IEW?
I love IEW!!

Are you not doing the Old Testament with MFW? It goes along with AHL.
