Being a Gerry Anderson fan too, I know he did great work on Thunderbirds, and also work for Hammer Films, including one of my all time favourite movies, 'Quatermass And The Pit' (1967).
I could tell some fun stories about Ian, but in this day and age, with the social climate, people would get offended too quickly. Still, I think back and chuckle at the absurdity of it all - especially the story about some spider props that he made and his DIY vacuum degasser. I'll leave that to your imagination - oh and the Quatermass movie was amazing too.

I have to admit that I was a bit fearful of Ian as I'd heard all the stories of him hating kids. Turned out, it just wasn't true. He really took me under his wing and every day, we'd have lunch and dinner together. He even taught me various techniques for a variety of FX work - which was amazing. He also took me up to the stores near TV centre when we went to see JNT - that was quite interesting too. Anyway, I thought someone might like to see the eye and hear the story. A wonderful story and a fascinating piece of Dr.W history. I for one have many items which are just shite to my other half, but to me they are priceless... A toy worth £200 maybe, but its something my brother bought me when I was seven and for all the nostalgia it brings me it won't be going anywhere soon. The picture of the skip with Dalek pieces in was a sad sight for the eyes, I guess most of movie and tv history has been the victim of these over the years... ah well... in the mid-90's a bunch of us did a location trip to London and paid a visit to some of the locales where Resurrection was shot - I shall never forget the most unfriendly welcome we got from a pub around the corner where the Daleks were blown up! miserable goits!

I have a few pieces that I would never part with, in fact I always say that my collection is worth nothing because I would never sell it. Obviously there are a few pieces that I can let go of because they don't really grab me, but for me, it's the memories connected to certain things is where the value lays. Those folks at the pub do sound miserable.
One of the best episodes. There original 60s Daleks looking at shape before switched and these were exhibition dalek if memory serves from Liverpool and I think was wilkies son. Very cool piece Nice NSD

While that last statement was mostely true, it is surely going to be a blast - great to see your videos coming out, whatever they are about!
I'm not sure about lucky, maybe fortunate. Thing is, the experiences here are from a time when no-one cared about the show, so getting access was terribly easy. It was a different world back then, more personable. Not like now... As to your model project, all the very best of luck to you with it, I'm sure it'll turn out just amazingly. Some things are worth more than money. A very nice item to have in your collection and I would be the same, not for sale. Yes it is very crudely made, but having been given to you by someone who for many years worked on doctor who is priceless. I would love to own a screen used prop but sadly cost far too much now.
Trying to get people to understand the value of it to me, beyond the cash offers, can be rather difficult. I get where they're coming from, but cash offers never sway me for items of this nature.
@@PBProps I actually went to the Isle of Wight exhibition, wasn't bad. Always remember seeing a load of Timelord collars behind a desk, don't know why they weren't on display.
@@markbelsom3174 If you took any photographs, I'd love to see them. I'm not entirely sure why, but I don't think I ever took pictures of the finished deal - maybe one or two, I'll have to check... I'm doubtful though. The collars were behind the desk because we had to wear the entire costume out and around the park. I refused to wear that one, so I squeezed in to the (slightly too small for me) Time Lord guard costume - I felt less of a twat in that, for some reason - though I did get funny looks from passers by when Dad drove me home wearing it. Turns out, the original actor has the same surname as me, so it felt a bit weird seeing that name in what I was wearing.
Lovely little anecdote, and the Squarespace gag made me smile - until the video ended and UA-cam followed it with a Squarespace ad. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and find my tinfoil-lined woolly hat...

I totally agree with you. I have some BBC paper cups (with the BBC logo on the side) given to me by Christopher Timothy. I have been offered a lot of money for them, and like you, always declined.
I'm of the opinion that some people are more sentimental than others. To me, memories are the treasure - money is also nice (I'm not stupid) but something with an attachment just can't be bought. You keep a hold of those paper cups, they obviously have meaning to you!

I must ask, as it went completly over my head on first viewing... do you think anything else has been salvaged from these 2 pyro props as in the plunger, gun as I know when they did the scene of the imperials vs renegades one of the guns was saved (imp style) and sold at auction with john nathan turner himself... and now belongs with a former member from project Dalek... if so do you think they will be with other secret builders eho own said parts? who knows what else has been saved from doctor who stories but it would be exciting if anyone would show of thier treasures... I know about the gun that you mentioned, but that one was better built than the two Renegades pieces as they (the Renegades) were to be totally obliterated. I also think that gun came from Revelation originally, prior to that. The eye that I have only survived up to this point because someone on set in 1988 obviously swept it up and placed it inside the skirt section of the Renegade that was destroyed by the Doctor during the first episode - which also was a re-used prop from Revelation. No-one knew it was even in there until Ian found it. We ended up not using that skirt section - it wouldn't fit in the set with the two Imperials and the transmat booth thing.

And it's not as if everything from 2005 onwards has been perfect either. Couldn't use the footage, yet when you rewind it you'd end up with the footage anyways XD Nicely done with your video though, to think you have a prop thats had one hell of a legacy; but please do let us know what you did with the rescued props!
Playing the footage backwards wasn't picked up by the BBC's content ID - not that any of this should have made a difference, you can use samples of footage under "Fair Dealing" - not that they follow that ruling as they're a law unto themselves... The rescued props were cleaned up, repaired and put out on display. I could have taken them all home, but didn't as I felt that they should remain with the BBC, though several of them ended up in the BBC prop auction back in 2010.

It was a different world, back then. Yes, things had a value, but only if the market was there - say at a convention. In this instance, space was at a premium and no value was seen in these things. If I hadn't have stopped him, the two surviving Imperials (in their TV condition) would have been repainted grey. Alas, I didn't get there in time to save their ear lights.

As far as I'm aware, no. I think one or two were refurbished and given replica lights. One of them in the picture that I showed was the one that got beaten up by "Ace" - I know because I had to repair the skirt ball that she knocked off. That one ended up in a collection in the USA, if I recall correctly.
So how did the arseholes ruin the Sonic Screwdriver for you? Curious on that one as I have a;ways always loved that and can’t imagine anything anyone would say or do that would ruin the prop for me. Oh sure, I may be reminded of their asinineness but the Sonic is forever a legend and a dream. Or did you mean they ruined the prop?
I don't particularly want to go into it and open old wounds, but certain members of fandom really spoilt the Sonic and Tom's scarf for me with gate keeping, bitchy attitudes and the like. There were some very nasty people out there and their actions were not pleasant and this was a contributing factor to me leaving fandom in general.
I'd say overuse in 'New Who', a kind of 'Deus ex machina' favoured by writers who hadn't the imagination to let the Doctor get out of a tight spot by wits alone. I'm with the War Doctor here: "They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?" And of course, the classic from 'The Invasion Of Time': "Not even the sonic screwdriver will get me out of this one!" Like the Daleks, or The Master, it was best used sparingly.

I'm curious who the "absolute arseholes" are that spoiled your enjoyment of the scredriver? I have to admit, i hate the way the new series turned it in to a magic wand gor a generation of fans to wave around as if they're fending off Daleks merely by pointing it at them. I always liked the original idea of if being a sonic version of a screwdriver, and the fact that it they have dropped the screwdriver part and made it "magic device" called a sonic just annoys me no end. Sonic lipstick? Sonic sunglasses?
It's not just the screwdriver that was ruined for me, it's been a number of things (prop related) and generally, it's been a certain quarter of fandom that has done the damage through their envy, gatekeeping, one-upmanship and so forth. I won't go into it because it's just not worth it. As to your points about the prop as featured in the show, I can agree to that. It's become a fix-all to every problem and has lost its charm. Doesn't help matters that the designs since 2005 are awful; spark plug, bell end, anal probe, metalized dog turd and now a lobotomy tool.
I've only just noticed that the explosion Daleks have no dome lights. This was a wonderful video and thank you for sharing it with us.

Nicely done with your video though, to think you have a prop thats had one hell of a legacy; but please do let us know what you did with the rescued props!
Playing the footage backwards wasn't picked up by the BBC's content ID - not that any of this should have made a difference, you can use samples of footage under "Fair Dealing" - not that they follow that ruling as they're a law unto themselves...
The rescued props were cleaned up, repaired and put out on display. I could have taken them all home, but didn't as I felt that they should remain with the BBC, though several of them ended up in the BBC prop auction back in 2010.

It was a different world, back then. Yes, things had a value, but only if the market was there - say at a convention. In this instance, space was at a premium and no value was seen in these things. If I hadn't have stopped him, the two surviving Imperials (in their TV condition) would have been repainted grey. Alas, I didn't get there in time to save their ear lights.

As far as I'm aware, no. I think one or two were refurbished and given replica lights. One of them in the picture that I showed was the one that got beaten up by "Ace" - I know because I had to repair the skirt ball that she knocked off. That one ended up in a collection in the USA, if I recall correctly.

So how did the arseholes ruin the Sonic Screwdriver for you? Curious on that one as I have a;ways always loved that and can’t imagine anything anyone would say or do that would ruin the prop for me. Oh sure, I may be reminded of their asinineness but the Sonic is forever a legend and a dream. Or did you mean they ruined the prop?
I don't particularly want to go into it and open old wounds, but certain members of fandom really spoilt the Sonic and Tom's scarf for me with gate keeping, bitchy attitudes and the like. There were some very nasty people out there and their actions were not pleasant and this was a contributing factor to me leaving fandom in general.

I'd say overuse in 'New Who', a kind of 'Deus ex machina' favoured by writers who hadn't the imagination to let the Doctor get out of a tight spot by wits alone. I'm with the War Doctor here: "They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
And of course, the classic from 'The Invasion Of Time': "Not even the sonic screwdriver will get me out of this one!"
Like the Daleks, or The Master, it was best used sparingly.

No, I don't own any parts of the Weeping Angel - they're not really my thing. I've got some original moulds for a few new series items and one day I'll make castings of them. I just need the space and the finances.

I'm curious who the "absolute arseholes" are that spoiled your enjoyment of the scredriver? I have to admit, i hate the way the new series turned it in to a magic wand gor a generation of fans to wave around as if they're fending off Daleks merely by pointing it at them. I always liked the original idea of if being a sonic version of a screwdriver, and the fact that it they have dropped the screwdriver part and made it "magic device" called a sonic just annoys me no end. Sonic lipstick? Sonic sunglasses?
It's not just the screwdriver that was ruined for me, it's been a number of things (prop related) and generally, it's been a certain quarter of fandom that has done the damage through their envy, gatekeeping, one-upmanship and so forth. I won't go into it because it's just not worth it.
As to your points about the prop as featured in the show, I can agree to that. It's become a fix-all to every problem and has lost its charm. Doesn't help matters that the designs since 2005 are awful; spark plug, bell end, anal probe, metalized dog turd and now a lobotomy tool.
