I got mine new on a damaged box deal for 170 right after they came out. AMAZING detector! I haven`t yet mastered the all metal mode here in Louisiana because it constantly beeps on the low numbers due to minerals but WOW are the other modes incredible for coins, jewelry, and very small targets. One of my first signals was a 29 but a huge rusty 6 inch nail popped out. I checked the hole and sure enough there WAS a quarter! No other machine I`ve ever used could do that. I found over 30 modern coins in my extremely trashy yard in two short hunts. My nephew won`t go detecting with me...he`s just so busy....gaming. I have three detectors but nobody has ever wanted to detect with me. Thanks to Biden I can`t afford to use a car on Social Security so I`m permanently stuck at home in the boondocks. So I guess I should find a kid that can use my detectors. I wish I lived near a beach. I`d get an electric bike and go every day.
I think that is what I paid for the 340 also. Not sure why in all metal it does what it did to you. I will check out this one in all metal. I know my 540 with the 12inch coil false out on the beach ..1 2 1 2 1 2 every swinging. and that is not all metal. in jewelry mode Thanks for stopping in.. Happy Hunting . Peace
i found my 340 on craigslist. for $60. found a used v12 coil on ebay. its a lot of fun. hunt in all metal mode. its pretty accurate as far knowing if its junk. have a good day
If I was to do a ring recovery for someone, I would use the Vanquish. One I know it pretty good and two when it hits on a ring it tells you Bam it is under the coil. I did not like the 12 inch coil on the beach or on land.. I use the 8inch coil all the time on the 540. not sure if I have a bad 12inch coil as when I swing on the beach it would constantly ring 1 to 2 vdi .. Yes friend you are right there, I have the minelab vanquish 440 I I love it I've had a couple of detecters and got to say the vanquish is a very good metal detector and once you know what it's all telling you there is no words to say, and for the money there's not much what comes to close.. It is part of the Hobby listen to the tones and check with the Numbers. Yes some crap targets sound great but if you do not dig crap you may be missing a really good Target. Gold is the most hardest thing to dig up where there is so much trashy targets that ring up in the Gold Range. Nickels and Pull Tabs Ring up about the same Tone and VDI But over time you will learn the tone difference in those two even though the vdi range is the same. Thanks for watching and commenting. Just ordered a 540 with 8"&12" coils to take to the beach. Any recommendations as to which coil and settings to use?
I did not like the 12 inch coil on the beach or on land.. I use the 8inch coil all the time on the 540. not sure if I have a bad 12inch coil as when I swing on the beach it would constantly ring 1 to 2 vdi .. Found alot with mine. Mostly coins a mix of 1920s to current coins.
