I love how incredibly morally grey this whole story is. It goes out of its way to show all the good and harm being done by the current system in equal measure, and the villains seem to be dedicated to sowing discord that will destabilize society from within, instead of attacking it from the outside like most morally simpler villain factions. I hope that Shirahama knows what she’s doing and that the Brim-Hats’ grand plan isn’t secretly pure evil.
The tension of Coco wanting to keep it a secret and at the same time want others to also be able to live the same dream she had for her own life is very powerful. Also the tension of the ability of using magic to save someone's life while at the same time knowing it is strictly forbidden and if caught the lost of one's own life. So good!
I was literally like "HOLY SHIT" was I read that they banned healing magic. Such a beautiful statement of the benefits and sacrifices made to limit magic power. The immensely difficult balance of security and personal freedom, looking to learn from the past but not to be shackled by it.... such complex, profound themes illustrated by the magic system within the manga.
I hope more people will pick up this masterwork of a story when the anime comes out. It needs more appreciation

Honestly I think it's exactly what I was looking for in a fantasy!! It kinda reminds me of The Priory of the Orange Tree when it comes to intricate world building and all the lore behind the current state of the world. I can't stop gushing about this series to my sister and I can't wait for the rest of the books to release!!

I am a self taught artist and I have recently achieved a next level of realism in my art and everytime someone looks at my art in awe and tells me they will never be able to draw/paint like me, I tell them that anyone can draw and you can do ANYTHING if you're willing to put in the time and work to master it❤❤

I've read the first 10 volumes. I will be giving my niece the first 5 volumes as a Christmas gift just to see if she'd like it or not.
Before purchasing it, I did show my sister (my niece's mother) two artistic tasteful nude drawings in the manga just to get her approval and so she wouldn't be surprised if questions were brought up.
Then (at the time) I got to the sexual harassment portion...I haven't told my sister that yet, and I don't know how I'm going to bring it up if my niece is interested in reading past the 5th volume
These are some great questions. It really depends on how old is your niece and her maturity level. When it comes to the sexual harassment portion, I would have your sister read that section and allow her to share her thoughts. I appreciate that the entire section can be skipped.

The way you say the name of Agott (Agate) Tetia (Tea Sha), and Richie (Ree she)hurts me a bit. But I’m so happy to see people talking about Witch Hat Atelier
Thank you for helping with the pronunciations. Being dyslexic has made it a bit of a challenge when it comes to pronouncing names correctly. What's embarrassing is I even used an app to help pronounce names before I make review videos and I still say some incorrectly. Hopefully this can improve overtime.

@@Stupidtacocatstuffgrr Yes, I also noticed these details; I'm from Mexico, and the writing is a little different (for example, the other girls are "Agete", "Riche" and "Tetia"); In order to not get confused, I prefer to pronounce the names in a similar way to Japanese.

Not really a 10 level like say Blue Period is but easy 8.5 to 9. From vol 6 on it got really good. Agott is probably the best written character

I’ve heard great things about this series but never really knew anything about it. Honestly, doesn’t sound like something I’d be too into. I think Black Clover is quite similar based on your description and is something that is far more up my alley.
I do enjoy Black Clover overall from the 30 volumes I have read. I can see Black Clover scratching some of the same itch. Witch Hat Atelier only has 10 volumes out at this moment. Only time will tell but I would say that Witch Hat Atelier first 10 volumes beat Black Clover first 10 volumes hands down.
Aside from both series revolving around magic, I dont think more than that makes them similar. I am mostly current with Black Clover manga and even just the 5 or so volumes Ive read of Witch Hat, its a totally different vibe. More lore, world building, diving into the various characters compared to Black Clover.
I think you might want to consider why you think it wouldn’t be your thing. It’s better written then most shounen I’ve encountered you should definitely consider it

@@colby_247 Comparing Black Clover and Witch Hat Atelier is coming apples and oranges, yes they are both fruit but completely different. If I had to pick between the two, my vote would be Witch Hat Atelier.
