I had never thought about Destiel. It wasn't something I ever noticed. I didn't even know exactly what shipping or fandoms were. However, I was season 6 episode 20, and they looked into each others' eyes towards the end, and my views on the two were changed forever. I mean, I don't exactly want them to be canon, I don't know if I can picture it in the real show, but I honestly don't see what else they're going for, if not Destiel, with some of the things said on the show. No matter if it ever is canon or not, I will forever be in love with their love.
I remember that Misha talked about how people were saying that the show was Queer baiting. He had a pretty good response to it. He said something like interpret the show as you would art. See what you want, and don't try to push your own thoughts on to someone else who may have a different opinion. He also said the term Queer Baiting pissed him off, because it made it sound like what he and Jensen (and the show I suppose), were doing it on purpose. I am a HUGE Destiel Shipper. I hate Queer Baiting. But I don't think the writers are purposely bating anyone. I kinda feel like they give a LOT of cannon to keep us happy. Do I want a Make out scene? Yes. Do I want a sex scene? Oh hell yeah! DO I think it will cause a shit storm that main stream Media will go ape shit over and bring people who never watched the show down on it and get it canceled or some other inane thing. Unfortunately yes. Do I still want it? Yep. There needs to more LGBT representation, and what a great way to do that.

I think the issue is more of an inconsistent message- not because they're trying to bait anyone, but because the writers just can't seem to agree about the depth of their relationship.

Really enjoyed this analysis! And I believe that the show has been teasing the viewers with this complex relationship in so many ways that it frustrates me. It's to the point where I started Supernatural thinking that these two were already together due to the things I had seen online. And I was never really a "shipper" but this pairing is just so genuine and intense that I couldn't not ship them. Every interaction they have just interests me.
I really like Destiel actually; I haven't watched Supernatural in years but still enjoy the relationship - platonic or otherwise. It has actual, real character development, with a solid foundation for their connection - something very few shows or movies manage these days - with men and women, if they want sexual tension, it's overt and frankly, boring. Nothing is left to imagination or interpretation anymore and that makes many story arches forced and wholly disappointing - which is why deep same sex friendships that blur lines are so fascinating. You have relationships that transcend sex and social expectation and, although most of the world has woken up and realised that homosexuality is normal, our popular culture and sources of entertainment haven't quite caught up yet. The only time we see LGBT characters, really, is when you have shows that are established with such characters as a selling point whereas mainstream shows, such as Supernatural, you get to watch the build up in much the same way we use to, before a leading male and female automatically equated to sex. I really don't see it as queerbaiting, I see it as normal character development - and when you see it, the few times it works magnificently, I love it. Great writing, brilliant acting, genuine chemistry with the actors involved - basically, stories that draw you in and actors that make you care. PS -- would love to see a Cherik one of these!

Dean's crises of faith and trust were addressed, and Cas's clear fondness for Dean above everyone else was touching. The fact that Cas was pretty oblivious to his own actions, and Dean was so super-sensitive to his attention made plenty of space in my head for shipping them. Seriously, why can't Dean be bi? Comfortably straight guys do not respond to male attention the way he does. I don't like queer-baiting. I"m not expecting to see anything on the show, mostly due to Jensen Ackles' discomfort with the whole thing. Kind of pours ice water on the whole ship for me.

Also, in their first meeting they definitely had a connection, then Mystery Spot was him trying to prepare him for life after Dean's death. It feels like a cute opposites attract thing. Cas and Dean are like that and so is Sabriel. Gabe can make sure Sam doesn't take himself so seriously and keep Sam's "holier-than-thou" thing in check.
I feel like I should hate queer b, but I don't. I feel like it's just something fun the directors to to bring people more into the show. From my pov its like saying "this ship is never going to happen, but we love that you love the possibility so we're going to give it to you without actually giving it to you." I love those moments so much, but I knew from the start that the creators wouldn't put them together. *mentally prepared for the whole fandom to attack me for this post*
It just frustrates fans. We've given the show attention for so long and given the writers so much love, and they treat us like this? It upsets a lot of people because destiel is such a large part of the spn fanbase now, and the writers may give us some bait,.,,., but it's all false hope. This very well done video made me so happy on countless of reasons. I'm relatively new to the fandom and upon binging I found myself shipping Destiel with ease. My only hope is for it to be in cannon as easily as it started. Despite tumblr/twitter arguments I found myself not at polarized ends but comfortably in the middle in positivity of it all. Supernatural has a huge and dedicated fan following. I can't wait to watch your shippable Destiel moments!
I love this show and the chemistry between Dean and Cas makes it all the more amazing. I find their references to shippers in the show itself to be more in the spirit of "We know you guys are out there, loyal fans so this is our shout out to you." I shipped Destiel before I even watched the show. My friend was looking it up in IT and I asked what it was and she showed me a picture and from then on I was like OTP.
I didn't even know about shipping before Destiel, I didn't even use tumblr, I didn't know people would look at two characters and say"I ship that". This vid is pretty old now, but if you’re still checking comments, it would be great to see a destiel update vid. I think S12/beginning of S13 has some of the most explicit (i.e. canon-compliant but overtly romantic) destiel moments out there.
Destiel is a ship that I was dragged into, then I got out and hated it, then I came back and just shipped it casually. I prefer sticking to my Sam ships, mainly Samifer and Samdreel, and my favorite tiny ship, Adamandrial, that I still don't understand why it even exists. Great video, can't wait to see more!

Just found this channel, really enjoyed this video and would LOOOVE a top ten list for Destiel! I'm probably *very likely* in the minority in this, but I personally don't think the show is queerbaiting Dean and Castiel's relationship. the main reason being in part of the definition where the show runners /never/ intending to make it canon, and no one here can honestly know with a 100% certainty that Carver does or does not have plans for something more in Dean and Cas' relationship. it's up for interpretation, yes, but nobody here knows for a fact if it's baiting or not.
I love them when they are on screen together. I love Misha and Jensen and it just makes my life to see them together. It is the only thing that I look forward to in my life almost. I just feel so happy seeing them together and there definitely is chemistry. I dont know how I feel about them ever really being together. I wouldnt mind it but I dont demand it. I just love seeing them together because they are very close on and off the screen. It definitely can be hard to be in the fandom especially when people argue about which of their characters are the best and put others down in the meantime. They are all important characters and if we watch it for Castiel then thats not wrong. Everyone watches for their reasons and makes us all feel good in some way. I love the pairing and I love the actors as well as the show too.

I actually don't see it as intended queer baiting as well and I'd rather enjoy this very canon moments forever instead of not having them at all just because the writers were accused of queer baiting... They're baiting is so frustrating. Yeah I'm a girl and I always get asked "Why do you ship them? You'd have no chance with either if they're gay." First, they're characters so I wouldn't have a chance anyway. Second, Dean is obviously bi and Cas is maybe bi or gay. He doesn't show any clear intrest except in Dean. Third, they would such a cute couple!!! If it was a guy and girl acting like they do, they would be dating by now. They would make such a cute couple and I would like to see them further their relationship. Destiel isn't about a gay couple making out and doing other things. To me, it's two broken souls coming together to heal eachother in ways nobody else could. Cas gave up his home, family, everything, all for Dean. Dean is afraid of commitment because everyone dies or leaves him, but Cas is strong enough to fight beside without fear. They perfectly compliment eachother and they would be able to fill the hole in eachother's hearts.
Destiel is an amazing ship which can be interpreted by each person differently from dark and angsty (Leviathan cas, Demon dean, death situations, etc) or cute and fluffy. which gives a person alot to work with, but even so I love these videos and would love to see more, maybe even an episode of another popular ship: Sabriel
You said it, destiel is my OTP. I think that the beauty on destiel is that hint of "nearly" canon, is more funny that way. On the other hand I can ship Dean with an OC of mine and megstiel (Dean ship them xD)
It's because angels are "genderless" and because they see a human's soul and not their physical form, that I ship Dean and Cas on a soul bond level. Whether that ever translates to physical intimacy is unimportant to me, but I also thoroughly appreciate the show portraying two men to be emotional with one another.
Part of me wants Destiel to go canon, pet of me doesn't. I feel like a lot would change.. But I fear change, so maybe that's just me. I sometimes doubt my shipping, but once I fall into the hole again, it's so beautiful, that I cry tears of joy

Misha tweeted this I quote "Something a little Twisty and Shouty might happen this season" end quote. If you don't know Twist and Shout is a really sad Destiel fic (in witch Cas dies tragically in). Now this ether implys that Destiel will be cannon with Cas dying or just that Cas will die and MAYBE destiel will just become cannon without any of them dying (which I highly doubt because is the spn writers we are talking about. They like to kill characters off [not saying that they do it often. nor am I hateing on the writers]). Now if Cas dies there is no way of him coming back with god (chuck) gone because he died in season 11 (or so we think). Now if god isn't dead then Cas might come back in a later season with or with out Destiel becoming cannon (not saying that he will). Although it will be a tragedy if Cas does in fact due and doesn't come back. phew I'm done :p hope you like my theory(?). Tell me what you guys think please. I'm probably *very likely* in the minority in this, but I personally don't think the show is queerbaiting Dean and Castiel's relationship. the main reason being in part of the definition where the show runners /never/ intending to make it canon, and no one here can honestly know with a 100% certainty that Carver does or does not have plans for something more in Dean and Cas' relationship. it's up for interpretation, yes, but nobody here knows for a fact if it's baiting or not.
I love them when they are on screen together. I love Misha and Jensen and it just makes my life to see them together. It is the only thing that I look forward to in my life almost. I just feel so happy seeing them together and there definitely is chemistry. I dont know how I feel about them ever really being together. I wouldnt mind it but I dont demand it. I just love seeing them together because they are very close on and off the screen.
It definitely can be hard to be in the fandom especially when people argue about which of their characters are the best and put others down in the meantime. They are all important characters and if we watch it for Castiel then thats not wrong. Everyone watches for their reasons and makes us all feel good in some way. I love the pairing and I love the actors as well as the show too.

I think you pointed out something wonderful: "Everyone should be able to ship what they want." Everyone should: I mean....one of my friends and I don't ship the same shippings (She ships Wincest, I ship Destiel) Yet we are still able to enjoy the fandom mutually and are still able to share the things we like about the ships, even if we don't prefer the other's choice over our own. I wished more people could do something like....but people will be people.

I actually don't see it as intended queer baiting as well and I'd rather enjoy this very canon moments forever instead of not having them at all just because the writers were accused of queer baiting... Even if I hope for it, I don't need Destiel to happen as a super romantic on screen relationship (which it kind of already is XD) I just wish it would be there officially X3 To me it's the most obvious thing in the world that they are made for each other and belong together and writers shouldn't worry about it because it is oh so gay, but just take it and keep writing as the beautiful thing that it is X3

They're baiting is so frustrating. Yeah I'm a girl and I always get asked "Why do you ship them? You'd have no chance with either if they're gay." First, they're characters so I wouldn't have a chance anyway. Second, Dean is obviously bi and Cas is maybe bi or gay. He doesn't show any clear intrest except in Dean. Third, they would such a cute couple!!! If it was a guy and girl acting like they do, they would be dating by now. They would make such a cute couple and I would like to see them further their relationship. Destiel isn't about a gay couple making out and doing other things. To me, it's two broken souls coming together to heal eachother in ways nobody else could. Cas gave up his home, family, everything, all for Dean. Dean is afraid of commitment because everyone dies or leaves him, but Cas is strong enough to fight beside without fear. They perfectly compliment eachother and they would be able to fill the hole in eachother's hearts.
Destiel is an amazing ship which can be interpreted by each person differently from dark and angsty (Leviathan cas, Demon dean, death situations, etc) or cute and fluffy.

You said it, destiel is my OTP. I think that the beauty on destiel is that hint of "nearly" canon, is more funny that way. On the other hand I can ship Dean with an OC of mine and megstiel (Dean ship them xD)
It's because angels are "genderless" and because they see a human's soul and not their physical form, that I ship Dean and Cas on a soul bond level. Whether that ever translates to physical intimacy is unimportant to me, but I also thoroughly appreciate the show portraying two men to be emotional with one another.

Destiel isn't just a OTP. Its a chucking religion.
But liek Destiel might happen in season 12 (or 13). Misha tweeted this I quote "Something a little Twisty and Shouty might happen this season" end quote. If you don't know Twist and Shout is a really sad Destiel fic (in witch Cas dies tragically in). Now this ether implys that Destiel will be cannon with Cas dying or just that Cas will die and MAYBE destiel will just become cannon without any of them dying (which I highly doubt because is the spn writers we are talking about. They like to kill characters off [not saying that they do it often. nor am I hateing on the writers]). Now if Cas dies there is no way of him coming back with god (chuck) gone because he died in season 11 (or so we think). Now if god isn't dead then Cas might come back in a later season with or with out Destiel becoming cannon (not saying that he will). Although it will be a tragedy if Cas does in fact due and doesn't come back.

Since you asked, I hate queerbaiting but that doesn't mean I want Dean and Castiel to have sex/sleep together on the show. We all know that they love each other...and, their body language and eye contact say more about love than sex ever can. I'll just keep on watching and maybe before the series is over we will see a real kiss and hear the words, "I love you. I always have."
