    Sepultura would incorporate elements of the local tribal people into their music.

      No berimbau isn't a native brazilian tribal thing. Actually it's called "Hungu" in Angola or "Xitende". So, the origins of the Berimbau is in Africa. Brazil was the last nation to abolish slavery, and many of these people who were forced to come to Brazil brought a lot of their culture to Brazil, and everything mixed together afterwards.

    The instrument is called a Berimbau, it’s part of the Capoeira (Brazilian group). It’s a stick slightly bent with a wire between the two ends. It also comes with a stone and a thinner stick used to play the instrument, the stone is pressed against the wire is the reason why the berimbau’s note goes higher.

    The instrument they use is called "birimbao" and they were used when they practiced fighting in the art of "capoeira" where the slaves learned to defend themselves with a fighting style and disguised it as a dance. I subscribe bro. Greetings from Argentina.

    This was good but their self titled first album will always be my favorite. Eye For an Eye, No Hope=No Fear, Bleed(with Fred Durst), Tribe, Bumba, I could literally list every song, they're all that good. Saw them live in Dallas TX many moons ago. Pantera, Soulfly, and Morbid Angel, that my friends was one hell of a show!

  • @szveszs
    @szveszs 3 місяці тому

    "Berimbau" isn't a native brazilian tribal thing. Yes, "Capoeira" it's a brazilian "mixed stealth dancing martial arts" that actually born in Brazil with african slaves and descendants.
    This instrument it's called "Hungu" in Angola or "Xitende" in Mozambique if I'm not mistaken. So, the origins of the "Berimbau" is in Africa. Brazil, sadly, was the last nation to abolish slavery, and many of these people who were forced to come to Brazil brought a lot of their culture to Brazil, and everything mixed together afterwards.
    Brazil was the nation that held the most slaves in the world, and the numbers are around 4.5 to 5 millions (as far as I know, the number of slaves in the USA was around 500 thousand, for example, and Argentina was around 25 for 50 thousand), so, yeah... I really like the instrument and how it mix so well with tribal thing and other stuff, but the origins of all of this it's just sad yet so fascinating (in terms of the genius of creating a disguised dance using an instrument, but being kinda in reality a freaking martial art).

    The Cavalera years of Sepultura are the only years that band was relevant. Max and Igor founded Sepultura. The Sepultura of today has no original members. To me Sepultura should've changed their name. It would be like Metallica still being Metallica without James and Lars. James & Lars are Metallica in that same way Max & Igor are Sepultura.
