@@josephstein3559 wait for real? I'm almost 30 years old and have been playing games my whole life. I'm a nintendo guy personally and thought I knew just about all the cool n64 games the console had to offer but I was in a little video game shop today and ran across this and I couldnt believe there was a M rated n64 game I had missed lol anyways I picked this up and just tried it out and thought it was cool. I'm honestly blown away tho bc I learned about this game literally today and suddenly I learn theres a remake of it the same day lol my minds blown. Cant wait to play the original and remake. Hopefully it hits the switch.
The game is hard. Especially on latests levels when you have no time to find secrets due to fast draining adrenaline bar and levels has a lot of secrets. So, I had a strategy, do not loose more than one life on level, if I died twice I restarted level, it helped saved more lifes for more difficult levels. Adrenaline bar makes this game crazy, and there are no items to fill-up adrenaline bar, you need to kill monsters for this. Sometimes it was useful to leave some zombie alive to later back to fill-up your adrenaline bar. What a crazy game. :) But fun.
Yea my one major gripe with this game as a kid was the stupid adrenaline/timer bar. If there had just been like a code or an option to disable it so for replays you didn't have to rush through (most games that have very tight timers I despise just because they remind me of the limited time in the Arcades as a kid), it would have been a near perfect game.
I don't know why the N64 version is so dark, but in reality it looks really good for a N64 game. Kalisto was one of the few devs that managed to figure out how to turn off that awful dithering effect that made most N64 games look like they were covered in shmoo. Midway was another developer that kept it turned off and their games looked really good because of it. To me the game is proof that the N64 could actually do some really nice textures.
that chip that makes them typical n64 graphics can be bypassed apparently as it can play pc dos games like doom and wolf 3D the frame buffer handles it and uses the memory for sound. The n.64 processor can handle doom and prob other pc games.
I was playing both versions this days, really love both, but i noticed the monsters in PSX version are more aggressive than N64, and N64 at hard really easy to finish compare to PSX. This game is a master piece! Recommended to all gamers!!!
The animations and textures are twitchy on the psx, but it's more visible. The games as a whole looks better on N64 except slightly more blurry textures and less draw distance.
This was great to come across my recommendations. Great amazing work. I'll be honest, I absolutely love the differences between these two. When it comes down to bosses and soundtrack I gotta give it to the N64 MINUS the Jose Manuel boss fight. PSX did that track justice, but the roof tops one N64 sounds so much better. But either way you're getting something amazing, man I miss this game.
I bought this the day it came out on PlayStation.. it's not a good looking game in fact, they both look like shit during this time era, but besides the cut scenes on the PS, the N64 looks more solid. If you want better draw distance on the Nintendo, then turn up the brightness on your TV. Plus no loading on the 64 and smoother gameplay.
@Jerry Smith They don't, the lack of Z-Buffer makes the walltextures and such wobbly glitchy in the PS1 version on the real hardware and my retro setup runs on a Sony Trinitron CRT. The N64 version on the other hand can give you even cleaner image than by default via gameshark codes on real hardware.
@@KayJay_EU I like crisp playstation look more for Nightmare Creatures. I know that texture filtering is a feature, which playstation don't. But N64 make such blurry filtering... so I prefer crisp look from playstation, even it pixelated. Not all games on N64 has blurry texture filtering, but this one does.
i would like to see this game get a remaster, HD, uncut, better draw distance, dynamic lighting while trying to keep the graphics looking about the same. i had the n64 version, had to turn up the brightness in game and then remap the controls. i would get lost in this game because of how short the draw distance is. Great memories, but saving on the n64 was awful.
Always preferred the ps1 version. Both are fine but I always found the graphics creepier in PlayStation because they were so wonky. Also the FMV at the start freaked me out.
Both seem pretty serviceable. Music is higher quality on Ps1, but the textures dance like almost all Ps1 games. That said the texture filtering is very aggressive on N64 to it's detriment sometimes.
I miss games like this. 3D Horror themed beat em up with platform elements. Rare mix for sure. But very potential gameplay imo. Ps1 version looks better.
I love Nadia 💞💘❤💞💘❤🔥💣. Nightmare Creatures. I'm 28 years now and I have crush on her fighting style since I saw her gameplay. When I first played the demo I got spooked and scared looking at Highgate Cemetery. Then I played using Nadia and finished whole game 😎😎😎😎. I miss Nadia Franciscus.
Éh, Esses gráficos 3D da 5ª geração são bem desagradáveis de se ver atualmente, mas foram muito importantes pra evolução da indústria. Se bem que era top jogar esse game naqueles tempos
PS1 has better lighting and n64 has worse lighting but more natural and more appealing to look at , especially with a horror game like this . N64 has more compressed sound than PS1 , but graphics look smoother on N64 and frmerate is better . I think the N64 has the advantage here .
The n64 is way more powerful than a ps1 it’s just texture memory it struggles with. However there are ways to re route things to make it more versatile like some pc games in proper display. The chip that makes the smooth often blurry graphics can be bypassed
Maxim Reality yeah, could buy a whole collection of great games for both ps1 & n64 instead of investing in ur superiour hardware on pc. Pc is for nerds who are locked up in a room without friends.
I've struggled with the short redraw distance when I played both the original PS and PC versions back in the days. But, looking at the N64 version in here, the redraw distance looks even worse.
if you play the psone version on the ps2 with smoothing and disc read hi speed enabled, the game plays better as the load times are cut down and looks better
PS, best sounds. N64, just has real dark lighting room effects while that's how dark rooms should look like with light and darkness. Not sure if I should get both games of it or get N64 game copy instead. FYI, I grown with classic 90s and early 2000s console. So don't be a PS or Nintendo modern gamer if I were you, both of them still has great exclusive games.
Only a dedicated fan boy can call this psx victory. N64 has better framerate insofar that it doesn't get jerky during explosions and other effects like the psx one does. It has mip mapping, antialiasing for smoothing out edges and texture filtering takes carfe of all the pixelation problems that psx has. N64 vesrion also has no warping textures nor twisting textures. Only problem the n64 has is the lighting is lower, which seems to fit the games atmosphere better but in effects like fire or dragon flame, it is very bad. But apart from this, the n64 is superio in every other way visually.
Jarkko Voutilainen are u done crying already. They look very similar, ps1 is brighter and clear, n64 looks a bit cleaner. Ps1 obvious has the better soundtrack which ads a lot to the atmosphere, fire looks betted also on ps1. Ps1 even has a classic intro in fmv. Ps1 wins this mainly of the extras.
Good memories back in 1997/1998ish. Then I think of the Playstation this is one of the many games that comes up in my mind. Edit: Btw I didn't know this game existed on the N64. I might buy and try it.
I had no idea Highgate Cemetery was a real place! I have never been to London as a US person lol This game reminded me of like a prototype of Bloodborne back in ye olden days. The one thing I absolutely hated about this time and still don't understand to this day is why they added an Adrenaline/Timer bar to it. It was a fun game but really ruined it for me, I would rent it every so often but never bought the game just because of the timer. It goes down SO FAST in some instances! 22:15 it is going down so quick and instead of enjoying the game I always felt like I was rushing to find the next enemy so I didn't die from lack of time due to an arbitrary time limit.
There's no reason for the N64 version to be this dark lol it's not a symptom of the lower texture cache or anything like that if it was brighter you could actually see how it looks without texture warping.
If they want to ever resurface the srries, what they should do is not only reboot and give this game an online or domestic co-op, but how about with the 64's graphics and the Playstation's audio. That's my suggestion for an HD remake or re-release. -Phoenix
If Nintendo hadn't put themselves in that plan of not wanting to work with Sony, at least because of the audio chip, what would this game have been with the soundtrack that has for me one of the best 🤟🤟🤟
Sadly, this channel is using emulators and roms to "compare" without proper adjustments. As CD could work much better with voice and sound, it was much harder for N64 to store such data... As always Nintendo was aiming at one thing at the cost of other things. Mainly to avoid piracy (so easily done with CD)
I would agree the lighting and sound is nice on the PS but I don't think the draw distance is any greater on the PS. It may look like there is a further draw distance at 8:26 but the character on the PS is simply standing further in to the room on the PS than the N64. If you watch from 8:20 and pause the video as soon as the character steps in the blood like on the N64 you will see its not actually drawing any further. Its even better illustrated if you look 9:43 and note the tree on the left. When the character makes it in line with the tree on the N64 you can see the stairs already and even the next tree is coming in to focus. I really disliked the texture warping issues that is particularly preventable within this game on the PS. I know the PS tended to have this issue but most games manage to deal with a lot better than this one. The PS version appears to be running at a lower frame rate especially when action becomes intense. I like the much higher resolution on the N64.
Draw distance is not better and if the lighting makes up for all the other inferiour visual traits that the psx version has, including the jherky fram rate during hectic scenes, I am calling a fan boy warning for your comments.
