      Just downloaded it yesterday. Completely addicted to it. It will help gel years and years of book learning from library. (I found identifying living animal like moths and birds to be very difficult with it. Hopefully the algorithm will improve!).

    Seek is an amazing app.
    I've also used it to identify flowers for the wife that she saw and wanted to try and grow her own.

      Cool, it is designed for wild fauna and flora, but if cultivated species are in the database, it will ID them. So cool and so fast.

      God doesn’t exist. Nature today is the result of favourable conditions on this rock for the past 4+ billion years. There is proof of evolution everywhere you look but 0 proof of god

    I love this app and have learned a lot from it however in my experience it is finicky.. I rarely get a speedy identification. I have to take photo after photo and try different angles and frequently I have to give up and try a photo of something else. I've cleaned my camera lens and don't know what else I can do. Does it matter that I have an Android phone?

      My suggestion is remove Seek and reload it. It should be very quick. I have had focus issues occasionally, but it still does not require the extra steps you describe. Hope this helps.

    Hi! Do you use iPhone 13? Is it able to identify very small objects like little bugs, when you need to get veeery close to them? I have problems with it on iPhone 14 pro, it just doesn’t focus, because its main camera has a big focusing distance and it doesn’t switch to a macro mode either, so I haven’t been able to identify insects, while it worked very great on my old 6s which been able to macro focus with its main lens. Do you have same issue on your phone?

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  Рік тому +1

      I do. The focus can get wonky. I wish you could change lenses. On workaround is to take the pic with the camera app and ID it from that pic. Just select Photos after hitting the Seek camera button. See you outside!

      @@OutsideChronicles thank you for the reply! You are right, I wish they optimized app for lens switching

      To take good pictures: 1) clean your camera lens (it's got a fingerprint on it from when you pulled it out of your pocket); 2) hold it steady, brace yourself, form a tripod with your arms against your body. 3) focus properly, tap on the screen where you want to focus (and be steady).
      To get good results from iNaturalist: now crop your photo to show what you want identified. Bugs are little so cropping is vital.

    How are you able to get it to identify so quickly? I often get sick on the last step or two before getting the exact species. Maybe i have to uninstall and redownload the app.

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  Рік тому +1

      Sometimes you need to move your camera around a bit. Also make sure it is focused.

    I don't feel like I need to get to know the natural world more because that's not what I get out of it. What I get out of it is the way that it inspires my imagination. When my imagination is replaced with trivia bullet point style facts the imagination is weakened.

      That’s a cool way of thinking of it! Personally I like identifying things because I like seeing how things are related and how they all fit together like puzzle pieces. Also, even if you may not like identifying things (which is fine), species identification is incredibly important for conservation. How can we protect endangered species if we have no way of knowing what species it is, and all the information that comes along with that, like where it lives and what it eats?

  • @loosefish5246

    The app makes me uneasy. The data in the wrong hands could easily be used for environmental exploitation.
