In before everyone freaks out that I'm selling stuff.... Gotta make moves these days or we're gonna have a freaking graveyard of stuff. It's worth money right now!
🤘🏼
Gotta make room for new toys
Hell yeah Brother. Gotta move it or else the value is gone! Move to next cool project or valuable equipment to advance the channel!!
Isint it crazy what there getting for used cars these days!? Holy cow!
Hell yeah brother
The size of the fan and that fan shroud is just like pissing up a rope. Step up the fan size and cover all those cores with a shroud, and watch the temps drop 20 degrees.
Dude this is exactly what I was thinking I hope he does this cause that fan isn't doing much without a shroud!
Exactly what I was going to say.
With the back of the core exposed like it is then it'll just recirculate hot air back through the core rather than pulling fresh air from the front. As you say fully shroud & if possible a larger fan but OEM not some aftermarket toy one!
@@SB-vb8ch LOTS of better fans out there then OEM
Definitely the shroud at a minimum. Also may wanna use 2 fans instead of just 1 but regardless that shroud is horrid...
Oil should run at 212
You need two fans on the radiator
You need a thermostat to regulate water flow
You also need to create a low pressure area at the back of the under tray to pull the air out of engine bay. A 3/4" strip running along the under tray at 90 degrees well do the trick.
Not going to lie - George sure does come off as an awfully likeable feller!
Seriously though, very good move bringing him on to Team Cleetus.
I thought it was a pretty cool thing to just have a video with him and Cleetus. It is kind of like a statement that he is 100% part of the team.
George is awesome for sure.
“Not unless you weren’t at the shop”
Perfect execution
Ole Georgie boy has the best 1 liners
9:05 lol such a good timestamp
This shop is a better fit.
You need a fan shroud that covers the whole radiator not just the middle of it.
This guy knows
And put the piece on the bottom back on.
I was about to post, people really underestimate how much a fan shroud does, especially with a bunch of coolers in front of it, plus get a fresh ahir pickup for the super charger should change things tremendously
Dual fans would be great also with the shroud
yep that would help lol, cooling is only utilizing maybe half of the radiator
Cleetus ya got to do dual fans and a shroud on the c7, without a shroud you’re only pulling one small circle of air through the radiator instead of cooling it all
At speed the fans are/should be a relatively small part of the air moving through the rad. I sometimes see shrouds that would be great for low speed stuff like burnouts but terrible for racing
"We didn't design a very good cooling system. Chevy did, and then we ruined it." 🤣🤣 Classic Cletus line! 🤣🤣
Looks like it could also use a proper fan shroud and fan upgrade so it’s pulling through the entire rad instead of the small portion it currently pulls through.
Yeah, or they could vent the tray to pull a bit of air from below which won't hit the IC piping
Im with you need the right size shroud had the same issue on a racecar one time built a new shroud and problem was solved
yeah that shroud looks janky as hell for this car
Came here to say the same thing. The shroud is poorly designed. The radiator could be much much more efficient.
George makes me Soo happy. Him and James commentary is hysterical.
George is in troubleshooting mode.
I haven't seen rod knock Rodney what about squirrel where you been
I am really glad he was able to get away from Jeremy.
He exactly what this channel needed
@@sam_s_ so is official that he’s on cleets payroll or is he just hanging out with his homies?
I think of all the cars in the fleet the bald eagle machine still sounds the best at idle, love that cam.
I would look into upgrading to a dual radiator fan setup. That stock fan is pretty small and has poor radiator coverage.
I and probably everyone else is happy to see this car back on the channel can’t wait until we see it back on the road and rippin at 100%
Cleetus said "no thermostat"... did that mean there isn't one in the engine? The reason I ask is because you gotta be able to slow the water down through the radiator so it has time to cool it off. On our circle track cars we run restrictors in place of the thermostat so that the radiator has time to do its job. Also maybe put a shroud on that radiator so the fan is pulling air through the entire radiator
this 100%
@@kingarthur7255 Sadly, you don't quite understand how thermodynamics work. Your explanation of "my friend says this" is easily disproved, and I'm not sure why you would come to try and attempt to argue/discredit someone on the internet without first doing your research. I had a long-winded explanation written up, but A simple google search for "car runs hot without thermostat" will bombard you with thousands of forum posts from confused individuals (like yourself), and other examples of why you are wrong. Thanks for playing though...
@@kingarthur7255 "performance builds heat" is the best quote to understand that anytime you are adding performance that you are adding heat. Imagine it's a hot day and you stand in front of the fan to cool off... now, run past that same fan and see if you cool off the same amount. I have seen cars run hot on a 85°F night at the racetrack and people having problems when we have never overheated even on 100° days. Everybody is exposed to different experiences through life and just because your "ranger" didn't run hot on the street doesn't mean that a performance engine will react the same way
Put a thermostat back in it, slow down the coolant flow so it has time to properly exchange heat! Ditch the single fan go to duals and a proper shroud for the rad!
Agree. A 160 at least
I made the same comment. Once that water cycles thru after some hard pulls the coolant has no chance to cool down. The very reason for a t-stat in warm climate! Dih
But. If it’s only getting hot after pulls he might be pushing water and filling the block with air.
@@justinsasser3884 then it would over pressure the coolant system, he said in the video it gets warm just idling. Coolant system is simply just not keeping up.
I would highly suggest running a dual fan set up on the back of the radiator as well as a cowl hood to help pull that heat up out of the engine bay
Need dual fans and a shroud that the fans can pull air across the whole radiator! It probably cools down when the cars moving, but you’re only pulling air across 40% of the radiator when it’s setting still!
Not sure if thst model has it but adding wing coolers in the air dam can help also
I second this. That fan and lack of shroud isn't enough
If the car is overheating while cruising down the highway the fans are not the issue
Look at the older Corvet's how they did the cooling ducts,
If I heard correct the engine doesn't have a thermostat. That could be the issue. Coolant is moving too fast through the radiator and not cooling well. Put a restrictor in the t stat housing to slow the coolant flow down.
Look into that stabilitrak issue. If it thinks its seeing wheel spin when its not it could be pulling timing the whole time, which will make it run hot.
I agree i have seen stabilitrak cut engines if its reading wrong
The fact it’s shutting off also points to some sort of running issue, very well could be timing related. I think you’re onto something
I think if your tire treads more than one or two 32nds of an inch different it can cause AWD issues and even ruin some cars.
Maybe because he has low pressure in the rear right tire?
didnt he just have this thing on the dyno the other day getting tuned to?
I love when they are doing pulls in the c7 you see cleetus is analyzing and looks very serious and george is just sitting there with the biggest grin on his face like this thing rips
Hey Garret, I've been working on big trucks for over 20 years and most drivers change oil every 20,000 miles but I do it every 10,000. It can get expensive but she will last much longer. Go to a synthetic if you want some better protection. Glad to see you and Mati are feeling better. Love the videos.
You don't think he is running Synthetic in all these race cars?
Depends on the oil not every synthetic is rated for 20k.. we ran frontier in our rigs and we sent samples at 10k to see if we change filter or oil or both.. my service truck I change around 8k depending on hours..

@@chrisdobbs9155 that's true. However most of them don't have race cars like Leroy, Ruby and Mullet. I think such cars are kind of an 'exception'
@@Avetho - Thanks man. Mindfulness is a way of life.
As others have said, that fan setup is no good. You need a full shroud that directs air through the entire radiator. But also, that front black cover that goes on the bottom, you can cut vents into it that you can bend to direct fresh air up into the radiator itself. Then install an intake onto the super charger, should be golden then...
my thoughts exactly on that bottom plate. mod it with scoops or such or drop it and add an air dam.
i agree with the fan, its too small, u need a dual fan setup
Yes
That's an absolutely horrible idea, to cut holes in the undertray. You have a low pressure zone under that tray just behind the splitter. If you cut the undertray you're going to force high pressure air from before the rad under the car. It'll hurt cooling badly and lift the front of the car
Given that the car is overheating at idle, yeah, the fan seems undersized/needs a shroud. However, that's not going to help when cruising. Above 30-40mph the fan doesn't do much and ram air takes over the majority of cooling duties. The stack up front is definitely restricting things, but in addition to looking at a different fan setup, managing airflow coming into the radiator should also be looked at. I'm not familiar with the C7 front end shrouding, but given the tiny vents that were there I'd think there's at least a little to improve on.
It's also just a lot of heat all stacked up all together, as well as a lot of restriction to airflow. If possible I'd try relocating that oil cooler and perhaps spacing the intercooler off the radiator a little further (though again, I'm not familiar with the build so perhaps that's not possible).

You need to get a fan shroud on that thing, even if it’s super thin. The fan you have on there is only pulling air through probably less than half of the surface area of that radiator.

Move the cooler like you said. Look into aftermarket fan set up. Worst case scenario take it to the wind tunnel and use the smoke to see where air is flowing.
I think what you should do is get a zr1 front bumper(for looks and it will open up airflow a lot), get a shroud that supports 2 fans, and do the fresh air pickup for the supercharger
200° coolant temps are fine. My Ranger runs at 200 ALL THE TIME to include in the middle of the winter. All of my motorcycles run hotter than 200 all the time.
Sure, there's other stuff going on but a 200° water temp is not a problem.
Shouldn't be that hot when it's meth injected though.
@@xColonyxXxRiderx it’s not injecting meth constantly.
Route the intake like you said but also that rad fan doesn't cover much surface area, maybe upgrade to a dual setup there are a few out there for the c7, all that stuff piled in needs stronger fans that can handle a higher pressure drop. between those 2 your temps would likely come down quite a bit.
Nailed it buddy
an electric fan doesnt do anything after 30-40 mph. The air coming in at that point is faster than what any fan can pull in besides for a clutch fan. Though i will say if im not mistaking on a c5 vette they have a shroud that directs the airflow down under the car after the radiators when this one is exhausting on the engine. Kinda surprised he doesnt have a thermostat in it, to give the water inside the radiator time to cool down though which could be half his battle.
@@danking5382 true to a point but if there is too much congestion a high power fan does wonders getting the air through the bay. He was saying that even at idle it was staying hot
There's only so much engine health advice that I'd take from ol' Cold Start Georgie!
Man! I sure like having George on the channel. Such a big personality!
Put 2 fans on that radiator, make a back shroud for the fans directing the hot air down under the car. ( can probably get something 3D printed) Looks like you have room 👍👍👍👍
Snorkel. The C7 definitely needs a snorkel. That will give it the coolest air possible while improving your aerodynamics as well. It's a win/win.
That would be wild 😂
Yes
That would definitely help it get across the pond too.
I see using the good old extra forced induction
This plus 2X electric turbos!
You need a thermostat. Some engines do fine without them, but most don't. Water needs to be held in the rad long enough to cool it off, if not the water is just hot lapping right back to the block.
Agreed.
Easy to try.
It has a lot going against it, though, so I suspect it's going to need a couple solutions... But dwell time in the radiator could help!
Is it just me that I feel all warm and fuzzy even when Cleet is sales pitchin' over here???? Love this dude.
Grab a fan shroud that covers the entire surface of the rad. And an intake
Try getting dual fans that cover the whole radiator so air isbeing sucked acrossed the entire surface .pipe the intake so you get cold air instead of hot air from the engine compartment 😎
You are so right! Hell over half the radiator has no fan on it. Just air coming while they are driving but that’s not near enough! Does need the twin fans with the cover over the radiator that the fans sit in!!!
The mud dobbers wouldn't have disrespected a motion raceworks throttle body like that 🤔
They need to come out with a DBW version so he can replace it! Gen IV/V stock ecm's require a DBW throttle body
The fan really needs to be pulling through the whole radiator. Tye could whip up a proper fan shroud in no time.
Yeah as soon i saw it I thought this thing REALLY needs either a good shroud or a second fan on the radiator, plus a fan for the Oil cooler and AC condenser. Getting a new cowl/extractor Hood would really help the situation as well.
If you cut a patch out of the filter media and squeeze the oil out with a bench vice, then spread the patch open on the bench, light it up with your flashlight. If there's metal, it will flash right back at you. At least it does for me. Great videos and great crew. Keep em coming brother.
The fan is terrible. The fan is only cooling like 30% of the radiator. Need to have as much fan as you can, big and multiple if possible. Then have the fan shroud pull air directly through the entire area of the radiator. The little fan shroud is only pulling air through that little area in the middle. High flow fan that draws on the entire rad. Done deal.
If that fan is a good high cfm unit then it should be fine, they just need to add a shroud around it so it can direct the airflow out of the entire back of the radiator through the fan. They have so much extra stuff on this already that adding more is just going to make it harder to work on and add failure points. Simple piece of plastic to bolt on around the back of the radiator will be just as good and way simpler.
SPAL makes a huge nasty fan, you also have brushless fans now that flow unlimited air.
@@Joebobinator those vettes had cooling issues from factory like all the over vettes, so that fan looks anemic for the amount of power they made factory
7:17 - you can go a step further and take a box cutter and go along the top and bottom of the filter element and it comes out and unfolds to one long strip of paper and is much easier to see

When cutting open a filter cut a chunk of the pleats out with a utility knife and squeeze the oil out of them in the vise. Then when you unfold them you know exactly what’s in the filter. It’s usually a lot worse then it looks from the outside.

You need God, not this goober
Brings back memories seeing the car that started my journey with Cleet, 5 years ago. Still remember those exhaust whistle videos and other shenanigans now :D
No stat can be worse than having a thermostat as it may allow the coolant to move through the radiator too quickly not giving it time to cool the coolant. Do what 95% of the fast street guys do and put a 160° star in there.
I was going to say the exact same thing. Also got to have that little bit of pressure build up that the thermostat does
And add a bottle of that water wetter stuff, it really does work! Not as much temp drop as advertised but I saw a solid 10 degree drop in my car.
160 is dumb. The engine needs to run hotter and during the cooler months it'll never reach operating temp. It needs to run between 190-210 to burn off moisture in the oil. His problem isn't the temp but the lack of airflow through the radiator to keep the temp from climbing above 210. Vettes are bottom feeders and he needs to take off that plastic piece under the front bumper and put a lip there to direct air into the radiator.
PS, a 160 in Florida means it's open the whole time and has no time to dissipate the heat.
@@gbpg2016 what fast cars have you built or do you own?
Yes. I've even removed the stat and put in restrictor in its place before. Thermal camera helps to find out where the hot spots are as well.
Cleetus: running the car all the way through 3rd gear
George: Strange the temps are rising when we’re going 40-50mph
well I mean, for a stock car it doesn't make sense. Even if you're making pulls, it should go back below 200 degrees. Because it's not stock anymore, it might get slightly hotter but it should cool down while cruising. He said it hit 250 cruising... so something is definitely wrong. I would start by flushing the coolant system and changing the thermostat and then moving the oil cooler and getting more air through that bumper.
Normally when you're cruising at highway speeds, the temps should drop a ton because of the wind. The car didn't do this before, so I am gonna guess something new, especially since it's been sitting for a while.
If it rises during the pull, it'd ok; but it's rising when you are cruising after the pull.
Yeah, it sits a lot, and likely has plain tap water in it. Probably plugged up somewhere. Flush cooling system, change thermostat, take water pump apart and check for proper function, make sure the blower isn’t somehow keeping the belt from getting good grip on the water pump pulley, burp it WELL, make sure the efan(s) kick on at 180 or when the AC’s on, etc.
@@sammaggard I think the joke might be that they might have been a little bit faster that 40-50, maybe 55?
He also said they are running no thermostat on it. once the engine load is gone and there is nothing generating massive amounts of heat anymore the coolant temp should drop right off. He should try to build a air scoop into the lower skid plate to try and ram air through the radiator from the bottom. could potentially solve the boost pipe being in the way also
Go water to air so it doesn’t have that brick of an intercooler in front of the cooling stack. A thinner heat exchanger for the water to air would flow through a lot better
Can't wait for more Leroy, Ruby, Dale truck and Toast vids.
3/4 inch limestone for the driveway. Last a long time. If it’s done right no maintenance.
dont think limestone would hold too well against burnouts. pretty soft stone. unless there's something about paving limestone I'm missing and the stone you would find in a creek isn't quite the same.
Put the thermostat back in it and that will help keep the coolant in the radiator longer to have a chance to cool it down. They also make restrictors you can put in place of the thermostat to slow the circulation down. And a cold air tube for pro charger would help a little 🤏🏻
You mean thermostats are there for a reason????

Put some venting on the floor piece to let more airflow through to that oil cooler and put a bigger fan set up on the radiator and like you said put an intake on that moves it away from the heat being pumped out of the fan, possibly change the style of the oil cooler to a taller thinner one to spread the heat out and get a fan on that too
Good to see more of George around, he is definitely a very funny man !!
Issues with it getting too hot...
1- Where is the oil cooler to the radiator, and can it be moved and its own electric fan? Worked on an Australian burnout car that would always get hot even on methanol. The problem was there was an auto trans cooler mounted in front of the radiator so every time it was pulling hot air from that straight into the coolant temps.
2- Air intake definitely needs something done as hot air keeps getting hotter 🤷♂️
3- possibly upgrade the stock fan as it's nolonger stock. Not a huge fan of shrouds unless you make or get a fancy one that has the opening flaps to keep air flow when moving faster. Still don't thik they'd work great with the radiator on a lean like it is.
Put a gap between the oil cooler and main rad, if they touching they have same temp, change rads to. Single core custom with dual fans pull, and put a pusher fan on oil cooler kicks in when above 95 to 98 main rad temp city driving high speed it never turn on, setups same as custom Bmws, Ultima cars uk, Porsche, ferrai, setup on BMW works in austrailia I use it

As everyone else has said, you need to create a shroud for the fan as it needs to create suction, not just circulate air round and around. That, plus either dual fans or a single bigger one. More CFM.
The fan to radiator coverage is terrible, 2 smaller fans would work better
Dual derale’s and a 3-4 row radiator for sure
Spal fans, thermostat and would love to see the timing curve. Also duct the air to the blower so it can breathe some cooler air.
Spal brushless military grade...
Dual fans covering a larger portion of the radiator for a starter. The fan is only covering 60% of the radiator, and duct those fans out through the wheel wells. Two smaller oil coolers, one on each side where the vents in the grill are unobstructed.

Love seeing the bald eagle machine again!
It looks like their isn’t enough air getting to the motor, my suggestion would be to make an air box and enclose the fan shroud that way your sucking as much air as possible and keeping your motor cool
A fan on the heat exchanger in my blown LS3 made a world of difference to temps and eliminated heat soak while stopped.
The A&A supercharger heat exchanger is pretty slick. Lays flat and has a scoop thing to force air through it. Maybe that's the answer.

Definitely some cooling stuff to work out. Needs a fan shroud if one can even be fitted. I am sure this has already been thought of but if its breaking up a bit lean conditions can certainly cause heating issues as well
That chop made me smile!!!👌
Some quick thoughts that would help:
-Fan shroud covering the entire radiator with dual fans
-New front bumper (ZR1, or other with more grille surface area)
-Somehow routing cool air to blower inlet
Other options that might help:
-Repurposing rear scoops (for diff and trans coolers) for dual engine oil coolers in the rear of the car. Removes the number of heat exchangers in the front of the car staked in a small area.
-Attempt with new fan shroud to re-route air out through the hood using the OEM venting route more efficiently.
-Cowl hood to help move more air out
-Remove the hood like you seem to do on every other car you have lol
Be cool fan shroud and dual fan.

As you guys know from your wind tunnel tests, air is going to take the path of least resistance. Some real ducting directing air into those coolers and out of the bonnet vent would go a long way.
Change the duct work on the front , behind the nose , direct it off the road and force it into the coolers …

I wonder if that fan only covering like 75% of the radiator is part of the overheating issue, if you could build a fan shroud for it I'm sure it would help some.
The way they are doing it is Wrong, a decent thermostat plus a shroud will almost assuredly fix their problem. if still problems after that I'd look at water pump problems or a larger/faster spinning fan.
The fan turns off once the car reaches a certain mph. His issue is the temp isn't stable while driving when the fan is off.
I agree with the fans not being enough. Maybe instead of having that plastic cover on the bottom you could fab a plate that bolts in there with two air ports that can re direct the air under to go up the front of the engine and push the air out the hood. Then you get the oil cooler some fresh cold air and it will allow the procharger to not get crazy hot, also maybe a different hood that can extract heat better.
And if it works you could manufacturer it and sell it on motion race works. I'm sure this is a common problem on the c8's
Thank God LS George has joined the channel, so funny and his charisma fits this show best
Maybe there is a air pocket in the cooling system. LSX motors need the cooling systems bled to get rid of ALL air bubbles. I learned the hard way.
You're not kidding. I can't afford any of these new fancy LS blocks, let alone LSX, but even the older LS blocks in trucks would throw a fit if there's an air bubble and it's a pain in the ass to get them bled without using a vacuum to bleed them. I don't recall these issues coming forward in the past so something must have changed.
It would drive me crazy to not have the c7 up and running as my daily. It's is the nicest real street car in your fleet imo. Get rid of all your pointless projects to lighten your load. Get the c7 100% and enjoy it. You have some bad ass race cars but the c7 is still my favorite for a daily street car.
It sounds rediculous, but redline waterwhetter actually makes a difference in the coolant, it saved my 03 cobra from constantly overheating, 2 bottles in your coolant does the trick usually.
I had service stabilitrac and traction control lights on my Yukon, it was the vvt solenoid and actuator. Oil ports that controlled the vvt were clogged, caused poor idle, low oil pressure.
Fun fact, mud daubers fill their nests with spiders they have caught and paralyzed. That way the mud dauber larvae have something to eat when they hatch inside. They are also pretty mellow and wont usually bother you, unlike other wasps.
You know your Dobbers!
This is true. And the little pricks will fill up any intake, exhaust, or port to an engine left open in no time. They got in my shed and filled in the intakes of my 4 wheelers. Had to almost chisel them out
Bastards got in my garage and filled up the hose connectors on my power washer. Took me forever to figure out wtf was wrong with it.. And if that isn't bad enough they crashed a couple passenger airliners too, killed hundreds of people. Buggars clogged up the pito tubes throwing off the flight instruments causing stupid pilots to stall out into the ocean and such in the dark. There's videos on it here on utube somewhere.
