One of Amy's best lines: "River didn't get it all from you, Sweety". I also enjoy how when we next see River in Amy & Rory's garden, she has just come from the Crash of the Byzantium "angels" episode. The writer really knew how to show time travel as non-linear.

to repeat a meme....... "that awkward moment when you are about to be killed by your wife, in front of your wife, who's standing next to your best friend who is pregnant.......with your wife."
Moffat describes himself as a 'linear' writer, which is to say he never thinks of the end and then works towards it. Hes sort of a victim of his own cleverness IMO, he can write himself into all sorts of corners, and find a way to write himself out, because hes that clever. But its frequently not something that feels like where it was 'organically' going, and can be a bit messy or rushed, I love Moffats build ups way more than his conclusions as a result.
I think RTD was way worse with writing the cast out of corners than Moffat. RTD always had cool cliffhangers but the lamest resolutions to those cliffhangers.
Yes you did miss something @failwhale34. The Doctor was made aware again of the mortality of everyone (including himself) in that phone call he made. His bestest friend, The Brigadier died. He was in charge of UNIT, a "companion" of the Third and Fourth Doctor mainly (with Sarah Jane Smith!), but was in stories with Doctor's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Unlike Sarah Jane, he made efforts to go back and visit even in different regenerations.
And also to show that even if time doesn't catch up with the Doctor, it does for his friends. He doesn't die, but they do. Maybe it's his turn to die. That's partly what convinced him to stop running.
2:00 Oh Look! It’s that Charlie Dickie boy! 4:10 Oh and Mark Gatiss again... 8:58 Also Nicholas Courtney who played Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart passed away that same year I believe along with Elizabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith) shortly after.

Just going to point out that the Silence have now almost destroyed the universe twice to prevent the question from being answered. At some point, you've really got to ask if its worth it when your plan to save the universe has almost ended it twice.
I loved that seasons. Sure, it was a bit of a mess and the finale was kinda silly but it had a lot of really good episodes. And River is one of my favorite characters.
By asking "where do they get their suits made," you have now made me imagine one of those Silence things dressed like Will Smith from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, complete with the backwards cap, baggy colourful clothes and shades (none of which fit on their form properly). Thank you.
The thing that really wrecked this finale was River in that suit. They really shot themselves in the foot by having young!River love the Doctor, because it completely undercuts the whole idea of them "molding a perfect psychopath" in the first place. If she loves him they can't justify River actually trying to kill him anymore, so they end up just making the suit be in control so... what's the point of having River be involved at all? Them "raising her to be a perfect killer" did nothing, her being in that suit added nothing... I just. I don't know, there was such a huge buildup to that and that reveal was just such a mess. What they should've done was have River straight up hate the Doctor at first, like she was raised to, then maybe meet him and start feeling conflicted about it or maybe not, but either way go through with "killing him" because that's what she was raised to do. And then afterward she could've started to feel guilty about it as she learned more about the Doctor and who he really was, and the people he'd helped, and /then/ she could fall in love with him. It's just.. ugh. Such an unsatisfying resolution the way it played out. But I'm rambling at this point so.. yeah.
Rachel R if it makes you feel any better you can fill the gap as to why the suit came to be in control instead of her. The faction raising her to be a psychopath that kills the Doctor never saw her falling in love with him as an option. They had to drug her to even get her in the suit and they thought they had her properly programmed up to that point... they had to make last minute arrangements to make the suit be in control instead and she still needed to do it so she could be the scape goat and take the blame. I totally get what you mean though but when my favorite shows do stuff like this I just make up what must have happened off screen to make it work. You are absolutely right it would have made way better sense to have her hate The Doctor then let him grow on her. One of my biggest irks about River’s story is that she gets shot in Florida by her mom, then somehow ends up in New York City to die from that, then transforms into Mel, who somehow ends up in England to grow up with Amy. I’ve of course created an elaborate reason why this might have happened. It goes something like this: She get shot by Amy, crawls out of the suit, the Silence decide that she is of no use so they dump her far away not realizing she can regenerate. Once they realize she can they take her to England to be close to happenings of The Doctor...but she finds his stories from Amy fascinating... thus planting the curious little Seed that turns to obsessive fantasies and then when she finally meets him she’s still young and influenced by her programming to kill the Doctor and ends up fighting those impulses and saves him by giving him her regenerations... which can be thought of as a very intimate moment that bonds them in some way... her obsessive fantasies turn to connection which turn to love and love is what keeps the Silence from being able to control her like they thought they would be able to. Thus having to last minute control the suit all while still making her the scape goat for their crime. Lol I know I wrote a book but anyone reads it, thanks! Lol

If we follow Rivers timeline in chronological order, then Riversong killing the Doctor on the beach takes place after her appearance in Let’s Kill Hitler in which she wants to flat out murder him. So it’s supposed to come across as romantic that River risks the whole of time and space because she’s so in love with the Doctor. well all the silence are the same size so they can buy i bulk XDDDD
Do you even know, who the Brigadier was? One of the Doctors first companions in the 1960s original series
Don't forget there are some minisodes you have to see before the next season. Unfortunately you missed all the episode prequels from this season.
The "suits" of the scilence are just part of their anotomie. Our suits have the form they have because of the uncoses influence of seeing the scilence.
ahh this episode asdgjgj it felt so quick, love your videos🥰
The first question, hidden in plain sight...
WHY CAN'T THE SILENCE IRON THEIR SUITS FFS
oh my god , next season gonna be amazing
Yeah This episode felt like a flat landing for a story that has been going on for so long. It's like they say Moffat is great at setups but he's not good at writing conclusions.
One thing is that the robot was stiff so we don't see it coming. It occurs to me that he could have upgraded the robot's capabilities with all his knowledge.
And that ends the golden age of New Who.
great video!
Oh, wait for next season... it's going to be a ride :)
Also, I highly recommend you watch the TV movie from the 90s before you get to it (or at least during the mid season break)
He's already nearly finished season 9
Well that's what I get for not being on his pateron. :)
Goosebump central
River is officially my favorite character. :)
u can't predict what the doctor will do
LOL Why did you think it was the End for the Doctor. He never really dies ... Not while people are still watching and they can make money
