@DrumsByLiz I feel comfortable enough with you to say I've seen demons, had communication and perceived their technology. I tried to tell my family from a very young age and ended up ditching them. But they aren't drummers.

@DrumsByLiz I have a beautiful Labrador named Bluey and I made up 2 jokes in reference to him. : hang on while I try to remember the first one and I will, your name made me think of a modern Aussie band King gizzard and the ( liz)ard wizard. If you haven't heard you should. Ok, if you don't mind I'll tell you the second joke I made up, not as good as the first.(you'll get this if you've watched back to the future.) What do you call a time travelling Labrador?......A Labradelorean.

Slick grrooves, I like this. Lots of spicy licks to dig into. I love it. Nice tips on the solo stuff and working with the hats. My left foot has been a part of my playing from the start but I hadn't used it as a time keeper playing eighth notes. I have been working on my feet for a couple years and this will fit right in with what I am doing.

Thank you so much Cora for your wonderful comments and observations! I’m really happy you see (and hear) the importance of utilizing our HH. It takes some patience but it’s so worth the effort.
I think it always add such nice texture to anything we play. Develops that weaker side, opens up R brain creativity. The real deal…lol
A book I use with students that highly develops these skills is called “Fusion Drumming” by James Morton. It’s a fantastic book. Goes down various scenarios of HH variations. Challenging and highly coordinates everyone.
      Thanks again Cora! 😊👍🥁⭐️💯🎉
Best Wishes for lotsa Happy Drumming!

So true about the left foot...(hi-hat)well worth all of the effort to incorporate ..and I have learned it is ok to stick to one thing for awhile until it is instilled and fluid..it does not mean I am neglecting other needed learnings, but one at a time is ok and so beneficial...and great grove in the beginning...quarter note triplet Q&A..awe🥁some..!

Yes adding HH into our playing style adds nice texture and sounds great. I’m glad you see the merit in it and are up for the challenge!
I agree also about fully learning one concept at a time. We try our best to foster muscle memory, setting things into a deeper state, to make sure we accomplish our goals.
We do have these amazing abilities, and as we gain knowledge and skill, it keeps us inspired. In my opinion, this leads to longevity and success.
I’m happy to hear you like the Q&A groove…it is a fun one! Happy Drumming!😊🥁⭐️

Hi Liz, EXCELLENT lesson. At the beginning of your video, it almost sounded like you were playing SHOOT HIGH, AIM LOW by YES. L.O.L.
    R.I.P ALAN WHITE.
Take a listen if you dont know that song.
It amazes me that many drummers do not know how to count when they are playing. I knew drummers who would maybe count once in a while, but they didn't know what the written notes looked like.
Did you ever consider showing the written notes on your videos? Just wondering.
How are things going? Hopefully, you are doing great.
I'm doing o.k. Getting closer each day with the gear.
I finally got around to organizing a walk-in closet in my gameroom.
It took me a few days. I have a boat load of ZILDJIAN A' SERIES CYMBALS and even more WUHAN cymbals from their 2 different discontinued styles, along with Wuhan's newer traditional series. I have almist every cymbal from their 2 disconrinyed series. I have every cymbal, plus dbles and triples of every new traditional series cymbal that wuhan makes. I went crazy buying them. They are awesome.
They were cheaper than zildjian, and to me, sound just as good, if not better.
I have dbles and some triples of their China cymbals. I have every china cymbal that they made. i will not use one of the sets of chinas from 11 to 24 inches.
Those wuhans are for my collection and to sell some day. Same for one of the sets of their new traditional series. I play on them, but i have that series for my collection. Wuhan has nice splashes. I use the other wuhans to play on both kits, along with a zildjian ride, hi - hat, and 8, 10, and 12 inch splashes. I was looking at all of my cymbals a few mths ago, and i made a mess in that cupboard. I got it all back together.
I pulled out some of my used zildjians that look great, and im going to take a listen to those.
Im trying to get the best sounding cymbals so if i can find my next band and play out, i will be in good shape. Lol.
Im going to put my drums back together so i can start putting the kit back together.
One thing at a time. Well, I actually do about 6 things at once, haaaa.
You know how we drummers think.
    ❤❤.
Did you ever hear of Wuhan cymbals?
    Hope all is well.
I will keep ya busy about gear, haaa haaa.
    Have a blessed weekend.
    Glen

Thank you very much Glen! Sorry I’ve had a crazy busy week and just responding here…
I took a quick listen to the Yes song you mentioned and it’s pretty close to the exact groove. I’m impressed with your ability to remember that and reference it….pretty cool!
You are spot on about many drummers and their lack of proper counting. It’s absolutely vital. Anytime a student struggles, we stop and count. It usually rectifies any problem immediately. If we can say it, we can play it. I also highly endorse students to play things slower for a longer period of time to set things into their muscle memory. Sometimes I even quiz them and try to talk to them as they’re playing a particular pattern (paradiddles etc)to see if they do have it fully set into their muscles. I ask them to then carry on a conversation, etc. I find it fascinating that our bodies have the ability to do this. So many times when I’m teaching, I see how dominant one side is and I try to address those situations also for students. Over all these decades of teaching now I have fully realized the value in doing this and how it exponentially helps students advance faster.
Yes I know about Wuhan cymbals. I have a couple chinas that are packed up right now. I too love splash cymbals. I like how they have good impact but die out faster than crashes. I don’t have any wuhan splashes, just various zildjians.
I hope to soon have the ability to add in notation. I do not have time to edit. I also have a dry board that I should use. It’s a bit old-school, but it gets the job done. I will try to remember to do this when I’m filming lessons.
I’m getting so busy it’s difficult to get my posts out on time every week. As an example, I’m probably not gonna get my newest post out till early next week. It’s a weekend warrior weekend… If you get my drift… Lol. And like you say, us drummers multitask and do 6 things at once… We have lofty goals in life and it takes a lot of fortitude. I am way way busier than I want to be.
Best wishes with finding the new band to play in also Glen! I hope that you find some musicians you can interact and connect with and have tons of Happy Drumming moments! Enjoy your weekend! Thanks Glen!😊🥁⭐️
