  • While SPAL still offers traditional brush fans, variable speed brushless fans are taking over the market as a superior solution in most applications from those who enjoy "muddin," racing, or street performance.

I run dual spal H.O. 11" on my C6 and it is marginally enough.
    1. Will one large brushless outperform 2 smaller fans?
    2. Can brushless fans turn higher RPM than brushed and is there benifit to this?

Don't hold me to it and not sure how you have it set up with the c6 but I've Hurd especially with the corvettes they should have a push & pull 2 fan system

I wonder if they have a brushless fan comparable to the good old Lincoln Mk III fan? At 4500 cfm the 9” Ford of the fan world. It would be nice to have a fan with more options and the efficiency of three phase.

Hello Monty. I would recommend you check out our #30107102 it is a 14 inch 500 Watt brushless fan. It's capable of 43 amps at full speed, but with variable speed, it will run between 1 and 43 amps depending on the coolant temperature. At SPAL we try to avoid using Free Air CFM ratings, as they don't always relate to performance behind a radiator. But I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the fan's capability. This fan will be right up there with the Lincoln fans in terms of performance. I haven't gotten the chance to test/play with a Lincoln fan (most of them have burned up over the years,) but I would bet this fan outperforms the Lincoln fan (more flow at increased restriction.) The big advantage: it will vary the fan speed based on coolant temp. So you don't get the continuous heavy current load, pair that with soft start and you get a powerful fan that doesn't beat up your charging/electrical system. Variable speed = less fan noise, less current consumption, and the fan lasts 40,000+ hours.

@@The67Crucible try Wizardcooling.com or C&R Racing. Wizard Cooling is out of NY, and C&R Racing is out of Indy. The brushless fans are only available through our distributors who also manufacture radiators. The 30107101 is our 500 watt 405mm, but if you have a lot of restriction to pull through the 14"/355mm, 30107102 500 watt is more performance.

I build custom aluminum radiators and have a number of questions on the brushless fans.... How does you 500w series 16" fan at maximum out put compare to a 17" 265w brushed fan that pulls 23.5amp at maximum output? I have always been a fan of Derale's product, simply because the "amp draw" and 265w motor signals to me that this fan can do some work. Could you give me a "feel" for the difference in these 2 products? I realize that cfm ratings are not a good spec to go by because of real world variables.
I have also used the old Vintage Air "Monster Fans" which are essentially the Lincoln Mk fans in an aftermarket bracket. Although Vintage Air has discontinued these fans, I have managed to figure out the VDO part number for the motors and have been able to duplicate this product with used fan blades and new VDO motors. These fans as we all know pull about the most air of anything that is easy to come up with for a hot rod application but they are limited in application because of space limitations on many street rod/hot rod applications versus the size of the VDO motors. Can you be more specific as to how your 16" brushless unit will stand up beside these fans?
I would like to know where these brushless fans can be purchased at a jobber type pricing rather than retail, as I have to try and put together an affordable package with the radiators I build. Most of the stuff I do is for upper end applications where there are not "off the shelf" radiators available, i.e. Blow BBC street rods that want to do cruising in the summer with the ac on, High horsepower street stuff, 1000hp+ turbo'd stuff, 600 cui stuff, etc...
I need a reply asap please as I am in the middle of a project right now that could possibly use one of these 500w brushless fans in 16".
Do you have any solid specs on your 16" 500w fan at max output with realistic voltage of 12-13v. Amp draw at max output, any kind of "advertised" cfm versus brushed 265w fan, etc.... Give me some real selling points I can use and I would be willing to switch to your brushless fans.
    Thank you,

He dude, i have a couple of those lincoln mark viii fan you were talking about. i retrofitted two of them on my radiator and they flow so much air it’s INSANE!
i bought a 300amp alternator just to keep up with them, but i’m thinking of doing a brushless 600w dual 19” fan system to see if they really do work better.
i’ll be uploading the video on my channel incase you want to check it out

@@payloadperformance9706 I am already well into the use of the brushless 600w fans and they are badass! Perks are oe technology, brushless reliability and best of all, soft start so it doesn't HIT you electrical system like the Lincoln fans,. This hit can stall an engine on idle if it has a big thumping cam and now that problem is solved. If you do not use the smart sensor provided, you lose the variable speed feature but you still get soft start which is awesome. The fans are very pricy with all the peripheral but are excellent pieces if you customer can afford them. These fans are not yet available from the big box race outlets but if you buy a bunch at a time you can sometimes get a vender to come off list just a bit. Seems Spaal is having a hard time getting product to us from Italy at this moment as well with the WHO keeping the plandemic going. But... if you can get your hands on these fans and can afford them they are the cat's meow for sure. Easy on the electrical system with big results. I just built a beefy radiator for one of my customers doing a high end 63 Lincoln with a Kaase Boss9 fuelie. He will be installing 2 of the 14" fans on this 2 row x 1 1/2" (3.25" core) tube double pass radiator and I anticipate no problems. See Mike Big Creek Restorations for details on the car . They do some awesome high end builds and no junk! ..... ps...... wiring diagrams are poorly optioned for these fans so I have already drawn up new ones for "with a/c" which will use high pressure switch to also kick the relays and I have one for "without sensor" if you choose to kick the fans with computer or Dakota Digital instead...

These fans are not extreme. The BMW 1000-850w brushless fans are as good as it gets and flow more air then any fan in the automotive market.. but you have to use a aftermarket pwm driver set at 100hz & GM temp sensor. Or if you want bad ass brushed power the OEM Volvo 850 fan #9497929 flows around 4300 real cfm, it has the same 2sp motor as the legndary Lincoln MKIII just different blade the volvo is 16" and the mkiii is around 18". These spal fans are a joke. The Volvo lends itself to custom setups, its flange mounted and is 2spd using the volvo relay. We cool a 970hp GN with the volvo fan.

your 100% correct on that volvo fan! i have the volvo fan in my 65 c10 small block motor. in dallas tx during the summer stuck in traffic it never even tuned on the high side. there are some small "cons" though.
1.) they cant mount directly to the radiator (the blades stick out about 3/16")
      2) you have add a transfer relay before the two relays. (unless you use there module) relay.
i even swapped out a mark 8 fan motor to the volvo assembly. made no difference in performance. they must be the same motor.
but yea.. your 100% correct freshkryp69!

@@mafosa8519 I had a spal on my 67 Skylark and wasn't happy. It wasn't performing too much better than a mid priced ebay fan. I ended up over happy with a fan from a 03 pt cruiser. It already had a shroud and covered my radiator like it was built for it no modifications for $55 new. Low amp pull and runs less cooling off my 350 perfectly.
