I think what amazes me the most about this movie is that the people of today can relate to WW1 and how the people of that time witnessed it through this movie. This movie was made a little over 10 years after the end of that war. It is now preserved in time. If you think 10 yrs ago, we invaded Afghanistan. That's how short of a time between WW1 and this movie. When people think only of WW1, they think of a war from a very long time ago, but with this movie, it's as if it happened yesterday

This original movie is so good, such a good script and so far ahead of its time, we wouldn't get proper war films like this again until the late 70s.

Amazing movie even now. A great book that became a great screenplay and awesome movie. There is so much energy in this production you can easily overlook any faults (who cares if the German soldiers sound like a bunch of Brooklyn wise guys. Old historic Brooklyn that is. Not whatever they are calling Brooklyn now.)
I saw something here that I had not seen when I saw the movie. The reveal of the pair of severed hands still clutching the barb wire. Truly a horrifying image and well done.
