- Moana 2 just got announced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. This follows in the footsteps of other Disney sequels Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2, along with Disney Pixar sequels Toy Story 5 and Inside Out 2. Why is Moana getting a sequel, though? Do we really need more of this story?

I doubt it will be as bad as Mulan because they're having at least Dwayne Johnson playing the live action character. From what it sounds it might be one of the most accurate live-action remakes Disney has made.

But without Lin Manuel composing the music, I'm not sure it can. Either way, Schaffrillas is going to be all over it, and I can't wait for that.

I saw Moana and about a month later I got into Hamilton. Not having Lin is a bummer.
To make matters worse, they’re hiring some pop song writers to do the music, just like what happened with Wish. At least something as mid as Frozen 2 still had some bangers in there, but now, it seems even the music has gone downhill. 😔

Actually Monsters University doesn’t count as Monsters Inc 2, its just based on how Mike and Sully met! Pixar was originally gonna make a Monster’s Inc 2 but they scrapped it! The plot was thag Mike and Sully went to the human world to give a present to Boo, and they got trapped in the human world, so now they have to get out and back to their home, which is the monster world! And that was scrapped sadly!

Could you Imagine if Disney Delayed Soul, Luca, Turning Red during the pandemic and got full theatrical releases and were critically and financially Successful, maybe they would also prove to studios that ORIGINAL Animated movies are still successful and not just focus on Sequels or Adaptations such as Super Mario Bros. Movie and Across the Spider-Verse. (also looking at you Paramount.)

I'm partially glad to live in the Disney recession era because it's letting shine and pay more attention to the other big studios and indie shows who are living in their golden era.
My only hope is that Pua the pig gets a major role in the sequel because he didn't get one in the first which is clearly false advertising if he was advertised is a major character. He was my favorite character.
I thought the exact same thing. When I rewatched Moana, I was expecting him to be in the movie more than the chicken but I remembered incorrectly
Also, if you count Indiana Jones 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp 3, and The Marvels under the belt of Disney on the wall, then yes they count as well.

@@soramembrino82it's not that original animated features at Disney Animation don't work anymore the true problem it's of how they can tell those stories and that's why wish had failed and unfortunately after Moana 2 we will have zootopia 2 and Frozen 3 so originality it's now dead
i think a better story would be one taking place far in the future, where the ocean chooses a new champion, and they have to stop a world-ending calamity caused by warring gods. instead of it leeching off an established character that is known to be successful, it should try a new concept, with a new viewpoint.
I find it surprising how even in the 2000s Disney still continued to make original animated films despite all the flops and critical failures
I will probably see this in theaters since I am interested in the world building that may be shown in the sequel plus showing the other gods/goddesses and demigods.
I Actually think that a sequel works better than a show, as Moana has way more world building that just wouldn’t feel like a good fit for a show. For Tangeled and Big Hero 6, they just stayed in their respective settings, but for Moana, there’s a lot of seafaring and sailing that would make more sense than a show.

Atlantis was also supposed to have a TV series following the 2001 film but it was scrapped after the film underperformed. So they mashed together concepts from the show and made the 2003 sequel “Milo’s Return”.

I honestly don’t really mind about sequels. I don’t think they’ll be like the majority of the direct to DVD sequels Disney made during the 1990's and 2000's, which most of them felt much more like spinoffs than actual continuations.

I loved moana so much as a kif, probably too much, as I pretty much had the entire script memorized (not anymore though), and I listened to the songs a lot. As a kid, I would probably be super excited that moana is getting a sequel, but since I'm older, and wish was disney's last movie, I'm not excited. I have really low expectations that the movie will be good. The sequel will never live up to the amazing movie that was moana.

WELP, now it’s time to listen to the songs in this movie 10000x because my frequently visiting niece will watch the movie every day.
My question is what is the state of the live action remake. They just announced that it’ll be coming out in 2025. And this sequel will either come out before (or even worse) after the live action remake. So I have no idea what the plan is here.
Unfortunately, people’s emotional connection to the company is so strong that people are going to see these movies anyway🤦🏻♂️ I’m done with Disney.
LMM made the movie a classic with the soundtrack. The last movie that LMM wasn’t part of was Wish.

How about this? We have one more sequel in 2027. I recommend Encanto 2 because I really want to more of the amazing Madrigals. Then in 2028 we get a fully 2D hand drawn Mickey Mouse movie for his 100th anniversary. I'd love to see those happen.
Hopeful for a hit this time. Much of what disney put out last decade wasn't a smash hit either. Notable exceptions were Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, and if course the og Moana. I'd like to think not stuffing a sequel to the brim with product placement will make it good but we'll just have to see

Well, if there's a sequel coming. I hope there's a mention of what was actually happening in Moana's island while she was saling to the seas with Maui and Heihei.
I mean: She left after a severe argument with Chief Tui and the death of Grandma. So how did her father take the news of his daughter sailing away right after his mother passed on? And that it was his wife who let her go? Everytime I watch the film, I wonder if Tui broke down into despair or if he was furious with Sina for allowing her to go. Who knows?
The fact that they didn't even say this was happening prior, the teaser drop and announcement were the same thing, and the release date being November... yeah we are 100% getting Megamind 2'd with this one. Yippee.

Ignoring the fact that Disney (Disney not Pixar) has announced 3 new sequels in the past couple months, they have much less sequels than most animation companies. Disney’s known for being a cash grab company, but they aren’t known for shoveling out sequels. Yet.
I am actually excited for this one! I also have a theory for frozen! I think that since there’s two more frozen movies coming out it’s going to be one big story in two parts like across the spider verse. I just hope it’s as good as the first two. Frozen is one of my fav disney movies they better not mess it up.

Disney hasn't released one in a couple years and their most recent ones were great.
Toy Story 2 reached a billion dollars and won the Oscar for Best Animated film.
And Frozen 2 literally became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
Sequels are fire, more characters and more character development! I know it's not a popular sequel, but I think people seriously overlook Cars 3. Lightning worried that the same thing that happened to Doc is going to happen to him, until Smokey opens his eyes and shows him that training Lightning was the best part of Doc's life.

And just as everybody was yelling from the mountaintops that DreamWorks was entering a new golden age because of The Last Wish they then proceeded to release Ruby Gillman, bringing us all the way back down to humbling, soul-crushing reality.
That's just how DreamWorks is, they either release peak fiction or peak feces at any given time with little inbetween.
