IMO The violence of the original just underlines the sadness.
This cover is BEAUTIFUL, But it feels like a dulled sadness, like the original is the raw pain of the moment and the cover is the reflected pain when you're thinking back to it

You can't change *FACTS*, however for the sake of argument Gender-role and how gender operates are a social construct.
Most animal species are a matriarch.
Sex is defined by the biology, our DNA that is ingrained WITHIN us that dictates if we are a woman or man.
Gender is what dictates the toys, colors, music, shows, movies, books, comics, idols, and entertainment in general we are meant to enjoy in order to keep us easier to market towards. But if we feel we enjoy the opposite that's just how it goes.
He can feel like a she when born. He(well she) can't change how they were born. Without getting to choose their DNA is that of a male, man. While she felt she should have been born female, woman.
The person you replied to is a cunt, for sure. But don't say it isn't ingrained in our DNA, went it actually is.
If we want to tear down male/female sex and gender then what you're truly doing is telling transgendered people they don't exist at all. Cause the gender they feel they should have born as doesn't exist so they don't.

If you ever want to guarantee getting a heartfelt, soulful, dramatic performance... hire a comedian. Why? Because comedy is HARD. It's the extreme ends of human emotion packaged up and fired out into the dark, uncaring world for all to see, and if you can pull that off, you can pull anything else off too.

You're completely right - comedy is often a survival mechanism for people who have been through rough shit. You have to see the absurdity in everything and laugh, otherwise you'd cry.
My mom says the same thing! She's studied these things, and she insists being a comedian is much harder than working in drama. Everyone relates to sad stories, but a comedian has to craft their art through a lot of different senses of humor. That's why when they're used to work with such high standards they can NAIL a dramatic role.
It's an escape and making everyone elsep laugh hides the tears I find.

Now like 6, 7 years later? Finding the Axis of Awesome again and finding out that as I have transitioned here you are looking so beautiful and strong!

My wife and I became fans of AoA years ago and when we watched your reveal video, we cried. We cried tears of joy, because now we knew you can be who you want to be without hiding or shame. We love you, the guys and the AoA. Never stop being yourself. Y'all are beautiful inside and out.
Thank you again for this video. I lost my best friend to suicide 10 years ago, this month. She was beautiful, kind, open and generous. She was an artist and musician and taught me to be a better cook. And all too often a target for the emotional, physical and sexual violence that many people in the Trans* communities face systematically. She fought against it her entire life, going back to her childhood and was worn down and worn out by the battle. It would be my wish that Trans*/intersex folks find themselves in a much kinder, loving world.
The language you used strikes a chord in my heart - these were the names used against her when we would walk down the street. Hearing them hurled at people breaks my heart, every time, and I relive the pain it caused her.

As the mother of a young transgender daughter, I'd like to say how thankful I am that we have brave women like you making space and changing the world for those who follow.
As someone who is willing to say "the emperor has no clothes" (read The Emperor's New Clothes) and who refuses to give in to the pressure of the times and say 2+2=5 (read 1984), I really hope you are trying to get your kid the help he needs instead of encouraging him to embrace his delusion. If your child was schizophrenic, would you encourage him to listen to the voices in his head? It's really tragic that our sick, demented culture encourages this type of insanity, but a parent is the last line of defense.

can i ask you a question (i have a brother who is going through the process so i dont want to ask him this right now)
and i am 100% for any one being any one they want as long as people care for each other and help each other (unlike the dick above - sir jacko) what i dont get is what does some one think or see differently that makes them think they are the wrong gender. i know i dont understand because i am a male with a mind that is pretty sure being male is what i should be so... gender is a label applied to the physical aspect of humans. take that out of the equation and you are who ever you are mentally, emotionally and psychologically. so what does being born male or female and saying i am the other sex actually mean for that person. are they disgusted by their physical appearance ie dont like sing there own penis or breasts? i can look any way i want to and still be male. is that they dont like the label of cross dresser or homosexual (im jsut using those as examples of some people as i am aware not all transgender dress like woman or attracted to same sex.)
so yeah thats my question for you. you dont have to answer and i in no way mean any offence to any one. this is some thing that the world has to get over but i still have questions....

Where I come from this is almost completely accepted but seeing you being so open about it on the internet, where basically everyone around the world is, makes me think that this is a great step for people to accept this.

This is a beautiful version of one of my favorite songs. Against Me!'s latest album has helped me so much and meeting Laura in the summer in Chicago was such a boost in keeping me going down the path that's right for me no matter how hard it is. Jordan's coming out video is so inspiring and I've really needed the reminder recently that it's all gonna be ok

I liked this song from the first time I heard it. It really resonates with me, I feel a bit of fear of what people will think of my transition and Jordan and Bunny bennet (( of spg )) have become my inspiration and encouragement.

I have several college friends who are Trans. I'm posting your video on the GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) a group on the campus created by 4 students, myself -bi/poly, Rikki-Trans M2F, Shaun-gay and Kristi-lesbian/poly.
We setup the group/club/organization as a safe zone builder; several instructors offered their offices and classes as "Safe Zone" to offer safe harbor from bullying etc.
In 2003 one of the Trio (a service to help returning students help with adjusting to classes and to get help with math etc) receptionists was transitioning and started out dressing female on Fridays until she was comfortable, then she added days... Some of the students felt "uncomfortable and harassed her and petitioned the Dean to have her stop. The Dean was on her side and refused to force her to dress "normal". Unfortunately, the harassment and bullying intensified so she either quit attending or transferred. I am still active as a community liaison for the GSA.
