I think the issue is that you calculated the answer in your head instead of using a pen and paper or a calculator Internal math is not strong with this customer. I am amazed that she asked for a pen and paper instead of just pulling out her phone and using the calculator. My guess is that this customer is over 70 years old, will not use online banking, is getting too old to work it out in her head, does not like electronic calculators, and wants to resort to pen and paper to check.
I only think Veronica was rude/sassy when she started talking about what the customer was using the pen and paper for. It was a simple calculation, and being good at maths, I understand her frustration. But not everybody is good at maths, and she didn't need to rub it in.
