    As a physical therapist that doesn’t have any clue about peds (I worked in the nursing home for a while) this was soooo helpful and makes so much sense. First baby and was getting overwhelmed with all the marketing trying to come up with a baby registry. Thank you!!!

    Thank you for the video. This is exactly what I wanted to to watch!!!
    I had a bouncer and used the same reason as you but sold it as my baby turned 5 months. Exersaucer, same thing, I like to use it when I am cooking or just max 30 mins a day.
    People kept saying to buy a jolly jumper for my baby since he is very active, but I am a minimalist when it comes to toys. Thank god I watched this, and I won't buy it. Keep doing the tummy time and let him crawl and sit up more.

    Yes. This is much needed because there's guilt in getting these things

      I feel like there is so much balance that can be created and parents can make these choices. Safety is also vital, but if it's safe--parents can balance and utilize these "convenience items" if they see fit

    Never knew the risk about jumpers till yesterday and I’ve been having the worst guilt ever 😢my baby is about to be 11m and since she was about 6-7 months I bought a bouncer and Walker she started moving herself forward the first day I put her in it I was so excited. She was moving forward to not going backwards as most babies do she didn’t really like to be in it too long though she started to cry, so I bought her bouncer, and she loves it so much is because she likes to jump a lot like literally jumping is her life lol I work from home so she spends most of her day in the downstairs with no problems. She doesn’t cry she really enjoys it. She watches her shows in there off her tv or tablet she drinks her bottles she pretty much does everything in her jumper here’s my guilt after hearing how they delay walking 😢 she’s literally in there all day she does have floor time but after about 30min to an hr she doesn’t want to be on the floor anymore she cry’s to get back in her jumper did u really just make this her regular routine to where I can’t leave her on the floor for long periods of times I’m a single mom working from home and the only safe place is her bouncer where I know she can’t get into anything her floor time like I said it’s only for 30 minutes to hours before she starts to cry because she doesn’t want to be down there anymore. She really doesn’t like to be held long either she is crawling rolling over on her own and she does this thing where I call it the downward dog I believe as she puts her feet on the floor and puts her butt in the air while standing on her feet and hands does this do mean her walking will be delayed have I already messed up too far into getting her to walk? I have tried standing her up she does stand, but with support she will not take a step if I try to let her stand on her own shit immediately is goes to a sitting position. She can sit up on her own. She tips over she couldn’t get her self back up. She has not tried pulling herself up or tried taking any steps. I know that I have messed up for having her in the bouncer for long periods of time which I am now taking away is it too late for her to walk is what I’m trying to ask sorry for being all over the place and sorry for this long message I’m feeling completely terrible all I can do is cry please lmk if I just ruined her chances of walking on time without having drs help 26:06

      Hello! First off, try to let go of any guilt you're feeling! As parents, we do the best we can with our circumstances. I never want to shame parents, I just want you to have all of the info so you can make an informed decision on what's right for you and your child. Try not to beat yourself up about things in the past. Your daughter is still learning and developing every day. I'd just try to give her plenty of opportunities to crawl, practice pulling to stand, and exploring to encourage gross motor skills. And if you're worried about her development, I'd bring it up with her pediatrician. I hope that helps! Sending hugs!

    Absolutely appreciate you posting this and giving insight and knowledge regarding these items. My son is 6 months and he was jumping so much that my arms would get so tired holding him up and helping him jump. I ended up buying the animal Fischer price jumperoo, and am now wondering if I’m doing him a disservice. I use it about 3 times a week for 10-15 minutes while in use. Would you recommend not to use it at all? I’m so worried I’m hindering his development but he sits up on his own, rolls both ways, and has started to attempt to crawl (or so it seems. He kicks his legs and tries to push them to move when he wants to grab something).
    Sorry for the long message 😅 I’m always looking for insight from many different pediatricians!

      I hope the message you got is that short periods are okay as long as you do other activities. Not worried about it when you balance with floor time and he's in there when you're getting other activities done and take him out for play

    What do you think about baby swing's?

    • @pedsdoctalktv
      @pedsdoctalktv  2 роки тому

      Swings are also "containers" so I dont mind them, but limit their use for activity. For sleep, this is a safety issue with their neck positioning so I would love they're on a flat surface like crib or bassinet. If in swing, they need to be FULLY observed at all times for safety, which isn't always feasible.

    Hello :) I’m looking for some info on infant development. My infant is 2 months old and has been holding their head since 2 weeks (not consistently of course) he sits on my lap for hours when he is awake and can even track objects with his head turning. He was noted having very strong muscle tone at birth and I’m looking for something that he can sit in for maybe 10 minutes a day instead of those infant chairs that curve their spine. I looked into the bumbo and the upseat but someone just told me that it can damage their spine. I am confused please help.

    When babies followed their parents, they were strapped on the parent. Indians even carried them in baskets while on horses.

    I love your videos and just spent an hour educating myself! I am completely sold on "floor time" for my baby who is 5 months. I'm a little confused about floor time though. My son absolutely hates tummy time and he also has positional Plagiocephaly. So his floor time would just be more time on his back where he's potentially getting an even flatter head. I'm seriously so torn and I don't know what to do. Any advice is soooo appreciated. Also I want to mention that my baby met with a neurosurgeon last week and they do not recommend a helmet :)
