IIRC most of the megas added in XY were gen 1 mons and most of the ones added in ORAS were Gen 3 mons. There were only 2 megas given to mons from gens 5 and 6. Basically if megas came back the odds of gholdengo getting one would be extremely small at least until a few generations down the line
My best play was using my Giratina to sack off a Sylveon using its Destiny Bond, and I probably would've won if they didn't spam phantom force dragapult.
Everytime I feel good about winning in ladder, I remember how to be a top level pokemon professional. You NEED to memorize multiple different star variations of pokemon like Wolfey did to play perfectly optimally. Like, you'd be able to have a good guess of what kind of nature and EV spread an enemy has just depeneding on their team or how fast they are or by how much damage they take from a move.
I swear, Pro Pokemon players are geniuses. Was there ever a tournament where a player brought nearly a full team that was completely off meta and ended up winning or doing really well?
I think one of the best games i ever had was with my mega altaria against a smeargle with Dark Void and minimize... He didn't know that my Altaria knew refresh and Cotton Guard, so his moves (which were physical) did nothing, he eventually run out of pp while i was waiting for ONE RETURN to hit... It felt so good seeing that landing

Just start to try, have fun and don't make it bigger than it is. Pick up a team you find cool, copy it on showdown, and you'll start improving rapidly! Especially if you watch VGC content like wolfey's, moxie boosted's or aaron zhang's channels. There are truly amazing players, but starting is the most important step on the journey
How?... Man that's such a good play... So that's why you used Eject Button Hitmontop to save his intimidate for later and have full super weather control... While Groudon is way more competitive due to the attack viability and dry water... prefer Kyogre... Is just a personal opinion
The way this tactic was set up and worked out really feels like a 4D chess game to a casual player. I don't have the experience to think of these plays myself, but I deeply feel the appeal of competitive Pokémon with how well this is explained!
