You need to study A LOT in order to understand the cognitive functions since it's so complex. This is why a simple internet test is not accurate.

    • @Lois_Unwordy
      @Lois_Unwordy 4 роки тому +17

Karla Rivera this isn’t about the smartly done test, it’s about understanding how they create the test, so taking the test online is helpful. Even if you know a $1000 one which is more accurate.

thatASMRchick Have you seen some of FJ's earlier videos where he addresses the audience like a classroom full of students? Super funny. He even asks us not to switch seats so that he can make sure he can check attendance. 😂
FJ, I think she's right, though. You do have (what appears to be) a natural gift of teaching. You come across as confident, energetic, and euthymic when you are sharing your knowledge with others. You seem in your element. (Fe)

I wish that Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs would have chosen something other than judging and perceiving to represent the fourth dimension of their theory of personality. Judging has always sounded, well--judgemental to me. How about looking at this dimension in terms of the way that we choose to interact with the world? I'm thinking something like Taking in information versus acting on information--Synthesizers vs. Responders. That has a more positive ring to it.

    • @maddiesiegmund5623

You're thinking of the word judging as Judgemental. JUDGING is coming across information which immediately processes through a filter of one's own preexisting understanding of things- both directly relevant and coincidentally relevant- as in a passive point of reference. Which is how an impartial Judge in a Court comes to his/her conclusions on a case. Judgemental would be using one's own preexisting Opinion as the standard and holding new information hostage until it has proven its merits. (INTJ)

    Ni - introverted intuition
    Fe - extraverted feeling
    Ti - introverted thinking
    Se - extraverted sensing
Where Ni is a perceiving function and Fe is the judging function.

I really appreciate you getting some knowledge out there. I feel like if more people would take the time to delve into the cognitive functions, it would help to rid us of some of the negative stigma attached to MBTI. There are sooooo many folks out there spreading the wrong info, and it causes some to view MBTI as being no more accurate than their weekly newspaper horoscope.

    • @NikkiDocherty74
      @NikkiDocherty74 6 років тому +5

Jason Keene , astrology does have some accuracy and usefulness. But horoscopes are generally B.S. Yes, there is a difference.
And I have actually noticed that there are lots of INFJs who are also Pisces, myself being one, which kind of got me wondering if there are some connections there.

    • @jasonkeene9834
      @jasonkeene9834 6 років тому +7

Nikki Docherty don't get me wrong. I have also noticed some potential correlations, not necessarily with one sign, as I'm gemini, but some of the general descriptions of various signs do seem, at times, to line up with their personality type. I wouldn't dare be closed-minded enough to say there's nothing there, but yeah, I was mainly referring to those generic horoscopes.

For the confused ones, please read this, it took me a while but i think thi can help us all...Perceiving functions (N) and (S) are opposites (extraverted N means introverted S and viceversa)
    (N)intuition
    (S) Sensing
Judging functions (T) and (F) are opposites (extraverted F means introverted T and viceversa)
    (T)
    (F)
    IN(i)F(e)J
First letter introverted (I), then it means that the main funcion is a perceiving funcion (So N as F is a judging function)thus N(i)
J the last letter means that the first extraverted function is en extraverted one, since we have the N covered as introverted, then Feeling is the extraverted
As intuition is introverted and judging, then Sensing is extraverted
As Feeling is Extraverted and the opposite, Thinking is introverted
    EN(i)F(e)J
First letter is E, extraverted, last letter J, so their primary function is a judging(J)one, the judging one of the two is F so F is extraverted F(e)
Second function introverted intuition ( So the E defines as primary the second listed function F)
    INFP
    IN(e)F(i)P
First letter (I) introverted last leter (p) perceiving
Their primary function is a Judging function so F is the judging function thus the introverted one
Means their sensing function is the secondary so Extraverted Intuition (Ne)
As we can find the Opposites, Then they are Extraverted in the Thinking (Te) and Introverted sensing(Si)
So I defines that the primary function is Introverted
So E defines that the primary function is Extraverted
J defines that the main function is a perceiving one ( either N or S)
P defines that the main function is a judging one ( (either T or F)
After you have detected a pair, the other two functions are just the opposites.

Ruth Jeffrey hi. Yes, I assumed that you were not that way with others because I did that kind of horrible shit to myself because I was being emotionally abused by someone and instead of lashing out at him, I turned on myself. You may want to check out Matt Kahn who teaches self love. For empaths it is like salvation. You can keep talking that way to yourself all you want but it is so much better when you motivate yourself in loving, positive ways. Typically there is a lot of socialization and other people's voices behind it. Nonetheless, if it makes you happy to do that who am I to tell you anything. I just know I'm so much happier now that I honor myself and listen to myself more than others who have nothing to do with this lone individual's life. They don't live in my skin. They don't make my choices for me. Not saying others are bad, but they don't generate the energy I need, I do. I create my life through my own perspective, period. I've overcome a lot of shit in my life, to include an unhealthy mind. As Jeff Blum says, " Change your Mind, Change your World ". And it is your world my friend. You can put as much energy into being miserable as being happy. Maybe it pleases you to be rough on yourself and you like it. It did not work well for me and I know myself better now. Honor yourself.

The reason was because I was a 'disorderly' person that like a little bit of 'chaos' since I'm not as gung-ho about schedules and making sure things are in their proper place. But about 70% of INFP just didn't fit me and I was just HOW are they doing their test!?!? Oh yeah, the actual video - What are your thoughts on the difference between introverted intuition and introverted feeling? I wonder often if I'm actually an INFP. I straddle the line.
I really liked your explanation of extraverted functions. There are not a lot of videos that clarify what that term means, either.

Stephanie Douglass So I've got a violin i quit playing in 7th grade, I'm 59 now, so it probably needs a tune up and new strings, if I were to attempt playing again. What about the bow's horsehair? I also acquired my fathers old nylon string guitar after he passed. I wanted it because when I was in high school we took guitar lessons together.

I would say both of those instruments would need someone to take a look at them. They would probably both need new strings. Most music stores have someone who can do guitar strings. You might need to find someone who specializes in bowed instruments for your bow, but a music store would probably know who to call. :) That is awesome that you are thinking to pick up your instruments again.

Im assuming you would find the smooth strings on a double bass. I pretended to play in highschool in the band. Pluck pluck... lol and had a guitar for home and I noticed the strings were different. Always liked the sound of the bow running across the D string. Lol

My favorite podcast from you, are your beginning ones.
It seems as comedians or anybody get more popular. They lose, some of just being down to earth. You're still very good! & You're exploring new extrovert type avenues, along with your knowledge and who you are.

I just found out I was an infj not too long ago, taking the test out of pure curiosity. In efforts to try and understand myself better (ahaha) I stumbled onto your channel. Wow, thank you so much! I've never watched so many UA-cam videos in one night, rarely subscribe or feel compelled to comment on platforms... It's wonderful to feel I can relate to someone on my wavelength, even if it's passively through UA-cam. Grateful for your existence, and your dry humor that actually gets me to lol (laugh out loud) hahaha. :)

Hi FJ, fellow INFJ here. Thanks so much for these refreshers on MYERS BRIGGS types. I've been watching your videos for a couple months now and really appreciate your perspective on the INFJ type and other life things. I have a lingering question for you: in previous videos you've said that INFJs are the most extroverted of the introverted types. Could you expand on that? Thanks!

Just as I faded out from being mesmerized by your voice and focused on the guitars to process this pertinent info about J vs P functions, you mentioned them... but I was more interested in how they were mounted on the wall--basic or homemade artistic wonderment because I'm weighing different options of how to display mine. Then I watched a preceding video and got the answer to that. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge for eventual self improvement . How could I not trust a man with such clean fingernails...? I've been watching your vids for abt almost 2 weeks now!! I love your vids, especially the shorter explanations!! I've noticed with my learning skill sets, its easier to deep dive, hobby learning with various and multiple short lesson vids instead of 1/2hr long lectures!! With that said, I have several notes, about my own personal experiences, but also the study/ies itself.
All of this is fascinating to me!!! I had taken this, and learned about it original back in HS of jun/sen year. I went to a career center, and I wanted to pursue a career in psych back then, but they didn't have a psych lab, they only had beginner classes, so I did away with those, and even if it was briefed, I learned lots, and have continued to learn about it. During both years of being there, in 2 classes, psych and english, I took this tests. Both years, I got the same one. I think It might've been one letter off, on both of the different results. I do know for sure the first 2 were "IN" and to me, from what I learned, this immediately made complete sense. I wanted and was extremely curious to really know about the other letters.
-I had heard of I/E types/cognitive functions, and the way the two differ in thinking, from psych101 in sen yr, and freshman psych101 of college, and in college, thats where I also I learned more about the Briggs System more too. However, I had no idea that there was another section of things to learn behind it!! While knowing personalities change over time, I think it's really cool to actually see it, but in written form. It helps me to know that I'm not overthinking it, and that its something that is/was "just told to me," from growing up and hearing it 24/7.
    - I was an INFP, and now are an INTP, aka "Logician." It makes the world of sense to me!! It's so relatable, and I need something that is relatable. Now that I'm 21, I hear more and more, that your developmental part of the brain process, doesn't fully get developed until abt 21. For my situation, it'll be a later process, I have a personality disorder I was pre-diagnosed at 17, and then was officially at 18, but also an after birth, undeveloped frontal lobe condition that makes learning/perceiving things hard, and slower. I've heard that it can even cause on to have learning disabilities as well, making things more difficult to perceive and interpret how I learn things. Growing up through all of grade school was a whole ass mess for me and I was so lost!!!
Another thing to note, I've heard people with personality disorders, also seem to categorize into one personality type. With the common traits, combined with how they think and process things, even if their/our world doesn't process it correctly, I can certainly see this as being valid and coming into play all the time. In fact, I've experienced it, esp more after taking notice, and being more aware.
-I"ve heard people with BPD explain this too When I researched this topic, I saw one that was the same as me. They mentioned they had a personality change later, through therapy resources, such as DBT/CBT, meaning, learning how to "retrain" your brain through therapy.
-It's interesting to me, as well as everything else, that the thinking and perceiving of an INTP, but also with a personality disorder, it all falls into line. Even without having an mental disorders or brain, or "after birth/health," conditions, the studies and scientific research, are all based off of facts with people with neurotypical, functioning brains, instead of atypical. I'm sure there are more explanations surrounding both matters.
Learning all of this, allows and gives me more opportunities to see things outside of my disorder, and its stigmas, as well as outside of therapy. It's more easier to learn about myself this way, than through therapy/gp therapy training. Sometimes this can be extremely overwhelming, especially when going everyday for 3 years straight. For in building/practice resources, grp therapy the requirement was training for a 1 yr. After completing a full year, I was abt to go another in an adult group instead of teen, considering things would be much different, and a big plus would be going without parents. I learned things, but it didn't make sense when trying to apply it to my own life. This makes way more sense, plus I'm not forced to do it. If I'm not forced to do something, I'll be way more interested in learning, and are much more willing to dive into more of it.
    In regards to music:
I suggest HIGHLY, that you should work in a music store. They would love so much to have someone with such knowledge about a single music instrument. I"m a musician as well, and have always wanted to learn bass, down to the depths and the very basics like this!!! Nah, your guitar content didn't drop off for me. Def make a seperate UA-cam page for your music, I'd love to hear it!!

More guitar stuffs please. Also, can you someday talk about belonging? I guess that's pretty broad, and maybe it relates to your INFJ fade video. But what I'm thinking is like, how do you become part of a community when it already seems so tight-knit? How do you integrate into social circles when they seem so solidified already? How do you become best friends with someone when they already have a best friend? How do you get that sense of belonging? As an introvert, I crave close relationships (even just one) but I struggle to get to that level with anyone. Thoughts?
