    Very helpful video - Love your cadence in explaining/ranting on about this system - really sells the depth of content it provides - placed my order for the printed version after reading the pdf today due to this video. :)

    A couple of precisions:
    This game isn't using the apocalypse world engine, as it were, but it's heavily inspired by it an borrows several designe elements. Others, for example the dice rolling, are completely different
    As for the dice rolls, th example is not necessarily a combat one. In apocalypse world parlance and in this game, "strong hit" usually means unquestioned success, "weak hit" means success, but at a cost or disadvantage, and "miss" is just failure to perform the action

    Thanks for making this! I've been meaning to check this out, and this is really helpful!

    Great review. What really struck me about Ironsworn was not only the rolling method feeling quite inventive, but that the resource tracks and momentum making the whole thing run very smoothly. It feels like something made _for_ solo gaming rather than something like Scarlet Heroes which just seemed like a bog standard OSR game with Oracle tables.
    I can't wait to see your gameplay demo video!

      Thanks, Adam. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes I totally agree: this doesn't feel as if you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole (if that's what the expression is). And the resource track/momentum really makes the character sheet come alive. I've started work on my gameplay vid already tho it might take a bit!

    Did a quick read-through of the rules, interesting system. Looking forward to see you running it.

      Working on that right now... pretty smooth so far though I've got a few questions on initiative determination in combat. We'll see. Spoiler alert: My hero just lost an ally... maybe... or maybe not...

    Great video, thank you. I’ve been following this game for a while now, but not played it yet as I couldn’t quite ‘get my head around it’, playing solo. There is a play through on youtube already, but it’s sound-only, I think. Looking forward to seeing your play-through! Cheers.

      Yes, if you listen to my video right at the beginning I talk about the playthrough I'm going to do. It won't be using a computer, as are the ones I've seen online.

    Well this grabbed my interest. It reminds me a bit of Scarlet Heroes.

    • @tacogod1030
      @tacogod1030 6 років тому +1

      They're both an all in one package designed for easy GMless play, but that's about where the similarities end IMO.
      Scarlet Heroes is based on Labyrinth Lord and is very much a traditional roleplaying game. Ironsworn is (somewhat) Powered by the Apocalypse and uses Moves and the fiction to drive a story. They're both great games though and I've played a good bit of both :)
      Actually, come to think of it there's more than a little crossover in setting too. Both assume that the Old World was lost and everyone now lives in a new land that's rife with danger. Hmmm...

    Hi Geek.
    I see all your vids and a love the content of your channel.
    But after comparing systems, I have one cuestión to ask you:
    Whats rpg system you consider better for use how rubric part in solo gaming?
    Whats give you better feeling?.
    I ask this for is more diferent using Ironsworn, than a Fantasy o Becmi sistems for example.
    I like the simplicity to Ironsworn, but is more automatic in another things than the other systems on the same level.

    • @GeekGamers01

      So glad you enjoy the content. That’s a hard question to answer definitively but have you checked out Scarlet Heroes? That will be more familiar as a d&d clone (than Ironsworn) and there is a ton of material built right into it for solo play.
      I’ve done a vid on it as well:

      Thank´s Geek for the answer.
      I see all your vids.
      I´m in the same way of play (mixing some gamist whit mystery discover and sense direction) of you make in your channel content.
      And yes Scarlet have the better beginner oracle tables.
      And Ironsworn have awesome content aswell.
      The problem is:
      I don,t know until whats point Ironsworn core mechanic take control of the narrative.
      And whats point Scarlet give more control of the narrative to the player.
      I´m supose you understand, what I´m refer in this.
      Is more dificult mixed the two systems for one middle point of moving the narrative, without being one of the two extremes.
      But thank´s for all.

    ¿How about playing solo but with a party of heroes instead of one lone wolf? ¿Does the game support that? (Yep, 4 years later 😄)

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  Рік тому

      There is certainly nothing in the rules that would prohibit you fro playing with multiple characters. Indeed, the rules say that it can be played coop-that is, with multiple players… so why couldn’t one player run multiple characters? No reason at all.

    Looks interesting but I think it limits the class only to fighters as I understood. Am I wrong?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  6 років тому +4

      Yes, you are incorrect. First, there are no classes (or races) at all in the game. There are "assets" that you bring to your character and through your choice of these you can create character traits/benefits/leanings that can (if you think this way) approximate classes such as fighter or cleric etc.
      There are many non-combat/non-fighter assets as options and you can take whichever you want so if you wanted to de-emphasize combat abilities you would simply avoid choosing combat assets.

    • @shawntomkin
      @shawntomkin 6 років тому +5

      Hi, Haris. Player characters are generally assumed to be capable in a fight, but there aren't specific character classes. Instead, you use assets to decide what characteristics you emphasis. You might be a sneaky/deceptive type, a devotant to a god, a scout, a hunter, a ritualist, a healer, a storyteller, a combat specialist, etc. You can mix-and-match assets as you like to emulate typical fantasy tropes or whatever best fits your vision for the character. Take a look at the assets at www.ironswornrpg.com/downloads to get some sense of character options. You take 3 assets when you create your character, and upgrade them or add new ones as you complete quests.

    • @hariszark7396
      @hariszark7396 6 років тому

      As I can understand the game is played from the perspective of a "fighter" hence the ironsworn, even there are no classes at all. You can't be a mage for instance. Or a Paladin, or a Druid. Are there any "assets" that give you what you need to play something like that?

    • @shawntomkin
      @shawntomkin 6 років тому +4

      Mage = Ritualist, Sighted, and one or more rituals (which are essentially spells, but this is a low magic setting)
      Paladin = Honorbound, Devotant, and one or more combat talents
      Druid = Wildbood, one or more appropriate rituals (such as Bind or Totem), Herbalist, and an Animal Companion of your choice.
      If you prefer character classes and more character crunch, Ironsworn may not be your thing, but it's certainly possible to emulate the typical character tropes (albeit they will be low-magic versions of those classes).

      I haven't seen your first reply when I post my second.

      Be well.

    If your battery died while it was in your care, there should be consequences. Did you check the Oracle Table? I'm intrigued by this, and am tempted to download the free files just to see if I can understand them (that's an issue for me, unfortunately). I'd then buy the book from DriveThruRPG. However, as there is more GG content to come, I'll view with eyebrow raised. :-)
