  • Fresh out of the paint shop!
    LSL's 87002 'Royal Sovereign' returns home, to Crewe.
    The only remaining mainline class 87 in the UK, is seen being hauled back to Crewe from Eastleigh, by class 47's , D1944 and D1935 along with an immaculate set of pullman coaches.
    Seen, first arriving at platform 12, where D1944 detaches and runs round, to take the train back to Gresty Lane and finally back into the diesel depot.

    Apart from the class 87 those class 47s used to be the mainstay of BR's fleet now theyre a dying breed too but look good in the 2 tine green as does the 87 in Intercity livery. Thanks Phil

      Thanks Keith. Don't blame you with the weather! I was the opposite! No fun working as a gardener in that weather, so a couple of hours under a station roof, far better?

    Shunting with a class 47 Diesel with hydraulic buffers and the class 87 could be the next HORNBY model.

      Thanks David. If you notice at 2:51, you see another 87, 87035, which is preserved at Crewe Heritage Centre. So that's 2 out of the 3 left in the UK.

    It's like an old school electric drag due to engineering works but they skipped a generation in liveries.

    Nice video, it's a very long while since I saw a loco hauled train in our neck of the woods, Midland Main line Market Harborough! I wanted to ask about the Class 47's, as I noticed they had radiator vents like a Class 57, not the moving ones I remember as a young spotter many years ago. I'm guessing Class 47 engine but maybe modified cooling group? Just curious, regards Dave.

    The 47s are now nearly 60years old, if only there was a ready supply of relatively modern engines, say around 2250hp, these locos could go on for another 30years or so.

    • @philclarke3203

      No, not for public services. It will be used for special charter trains, but no doubt will be be up and down the WCML at times. Don't know any dates though.

      As we did, when we re-painted our 87, 87035,( also seen in this video ) at Crewe Heritage Centre a couple or years ago?

  • @EM-yk1dw
    @EM-yk1dw 4 роки тому

    Shame about the disgusting state of the infrastructure, Crewe looks like an overgrown garden. The 87s had years left in them, swopped for those nasty stinking tilting sewage pipes
