Baby Seal Rescue, PUP CAUGHT In a Fishing Net!

- Yesterday we were out on a new spot in skagen, to Speer some fish.. Little did we know that there was an unmarked fishing net in the water, i swam alongside with the net to have a closer look, due to its dodgy appearence. to my great surprise there was a baby seal trying to get untangled from the fishing net. It was completely stuck and had no way of escape. But with a little help and teamwork, we got the little seal pup back to the ocean ❤️ we hope it has learned a lesson and lives a happy long life❤️

@@northdiving9799 Yes, actually, I know it wasn't your net. That is what makes this so heroic. You did this in defiance of some pesky poacher And you saved a life. Pretty cool. Your experience and actions are a good example of what it means to be a good person. Good thing you had a camera and knew how to use it and record it. The internet is making sharing these experiences possible. But we need more heroes...one hero and heroine at a time. ;)

Good job! Thank you for helping this little one. I've been a wildlife rehabilitator for 25+years now and have seen some awful things these nets do to all kinds of animals. We had a 8 month old bald eagle that came in that had gotten one of its feet and legs tangled in a net exactly like this one, the one foot had already been completely severed off but was still tangled in the net and dangling from the bird. Even just a small piece of net and or line can cause things most people can't even begin to imagine. Thank you for saving this baby.

Poor little guy. I'm so glad you guys were able to save him before he died a horrible slow death.
Too many sea animals die to the slow death from these human nets, fishing lines, ropes, etc. I am grateful he saved the little guy.

He may have swam off with some of the net still wrapped around him.
Ashley: The baby seal DID DIE a slow and painful death from starvation because the net around the baby seal's face and mouth did NOT get cut off. The man freed his net and avoided cutting the net away from the mouth.

The problem isn't that someone set up a net, provided they have the appropriate license they can set a certain amount of nets, of a certain nature, and under certain circumstances, this net doesn't appear to have been abandoned, it appears to have been a poacher who set an illegal net. But, even if it was a legal net, it might still have caught a seal pup, nets don't discriminate, but the actual reason for putting it there (to catch fish), is totally fine, that's what people who fish with nets do, it's just the legality of it that's the problem.

Kelly: not lucky at all, since the man avoided freeing the mouth of the baby seal. The man cut the seal free with all the netting still covering its face and mouth, so that the baby seal could NOT feed.

Seals have very thick fur. The pup might have gotten a bad hair cut, that's all. The real problem would be fishing line wrapped tightly around him/her somewhere....deep in the fur.

For a moment, the pup must be thinking he's gonna end up on the dining table when he sees a man with sharp knife. He must be so relieved and thankful you didn't harm him. Instead, you helped him. :)
That was quite possibly the cutest baby seal I have ever seen and I feel extremely emotional because of it, I hope the pup stayed away from nets after that experience and grew up to be a big, strong, smart adult ❤️

Oh god my heart stopped every time you came near him with your knife, hoping he wouldn’t move. I am happy you helped him but that was really dangerous, I know if he bites it gets nasty but that was just luck, that you didn’t hurt him. Also I Hope there isn’t still net tangled arround his mouth. But I am still happy, that there are people like you out there, cleaning up this shit we put into our oceans over and over again, so thank you.
So, if a knife is all one has, I reckon you mean that the seal should have been left to it's own devices?

Thank you for helping the little seal and taking the net out of the ocean. After seeing all these videos of animals tangled in human garbage I think I need to make sure I have a knife with me when I go out in nature. You never know what you might run into.
