  • Robert Lanza, M.D. is Chief Scientific Officer at Advanced Cell Technology, and professor at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has several hundred publications and inventions, and 30 scientific books: among them, "Essentials of Stem Cell Biology" and "Principles of Tissue Engineering" which are recognized as the definitive references in the field. Others include the "Handbook of Stem Cells" and "Principles of Regenerative Medicine".

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I've seen other videos of Dr. Lanza giving speeches about Biocentrism and in those he seemed very nervous and had to read from his notes throughout the speech. Here he seems very relaxed and can talk about cloning and stem cells with absolute confidence and mastery. Interesting.

Dr. Robert Lanza is a very smart man, and he does a good job here of explaining about the science and techniques of cloning. So, I put this video on my "Reviving Extinct & Endangered Life" UA-cam Playlist.

I don't think it does. I tend to think he keeps the theories and practices separate. He is out of his league with Biocentrism, yet, I believe he's got it right.

It doesn't in a sense of how he says how Science itself is cox rete and doesn't make sense of explaining how we truly experience what we experience. However he has a lot of interesting ideas in his views otherwise.

I had similar thoughts too. It is a very interesting topic and gives me thoughts to reflect on. It is as difficult to understand what the right answer would be if we should attempt to create a life in this way as well as to find the answer for euthanasia if we should take a life. Being a medical student, I am learning every day how to take the best care of patients, prolong their life, and help them to have a good quality of life. But it also can be overly complicated if knowledge of cloning gets abused and if it ends up in the wrong hands, which always will be present in our world. I can see how cloning is a good thing to help to promote people’s health, save the species, and perhaps clone a child for a single parent or other possibilists for human health benefits. I believe it would create more ethical issues and maybe one day will lead to unnecessary harm and deaths. Even one sacrificed life matters. If we create a life we get responsible for that act. Moreover, many questions can be raised in the future, for example: will we ever accept clones like equals, or will we invent new labels for them, creating a new kind of discrimination? Will that day come when the clone will try to sue the “creator” for bringing him/her to the world in this way? How do we know that criminal kinds of people will not decide one day that this can be a good business to create a life and cell it how they wish, contributing to human and organ trafficking? Do we have enough already on our plate that we cannot control and why create more problems, and conflicts? And do we really need to reproduce the dinosaur if we would get a chance? Maybe something better should stay in the past? On the other hand, this is a great discovery, and we should learn how we can use it wisely. It would be absolutely amazing if we could save animal species. Historically, all discoveries for human health improvements in general work, we see progress with irradicating several diseases or reducing mortalities and morbidities in different cancers and various chronic illnesses. For example, vaccination became the greatest discovery we could not even dream about. Cloning, in the same way, gives us many thoughts to process, the world keeps investing many hours and money to research and in an attempt to make it work perfectly, give humanity as many benefits it possible. And perhaps one day, in the future it will become as common as vaccination, and as well will also have its opponents. Of course, it would be amazing to save endangered species. And without a doubt, success with animal studies and experiences on a big scale would lead to a stronger desire and pressure to implement it for humans. Eventually, people will apply this discovery because it looks like it will be our inevitable future. So, I believe we still should think about it, reflect on potential ethical and other issues, and create fair and strict regulation rules and laws with a focus on people’s benefits and restrictions for misuse.

"This technology works" funny thing he skips the fact that there were two bantengs and the other born was euthanized for deformities, and most animals he mentioned have being deformed as well or have died suddenly. Words must be carefully analyzed and unless a majority of specimens fertilized are born healthy and live healthy lives then one can not say "this works" . At times it works, yet is nothing compared with the drawbacks. There are some success for it does not exactly work.

Take an example. Most modern fruit trees are "hybrids" in the sense they have been created artificially by fixed insemination (by pollinating selectively or even transplanting one fruit half on to another root. Typically wild roots to have more endurance): Well guess what? That's created a whole world of fruit trees that can't reproduce by themselves. Think about that for a second.
There are currently only 2 out of 35 olive spices in southern Europe that's fertile . The rest are now so prone to any kind of natural changes, plagues, pests etc that people use a range of artificial crap to keep them alive. Then people get infertile because they eat half of the crap having used to hold up this shitty gamble. That's what we cme from. Now "scientists" wants to gamble with the human genome and play God. That's not science. That's sorcery, mind you - idiotic sorcery. It's got nothing, nothing to do with science. The object of science is to understand NATURE, meaning the cosmos. Why. Not how. Want to know how? Make tree's fertile.

Even though the idea of cloning is interesting, the idea of cloning animals or humans should not be implemented in the light of its possible impact on already existing species and the battle over cloning’s morality. Cloning animals and humans is immoral because not only are the procedures to do so relatively invasive, but it could also cause even more issues regarding the value of life itself. In cloning animals we are possibly causing a host of problems for ourselves, one of which possibly being hurting the ecosystem by introducing animal species that might send other animals into extinction. For example, bringing certain species, such as predatory dinosaurs back into the world could spell disaster for any creature that runs into it, possibly taking the numbers of other animals that are already in the ecosystem down considerably, maybe even effecting human populations if not careful. This would combat the primary reason for the cloning as according to the video, which is to save animals from going into extinction. As a result, we would be almost completely dependent on cloning animals to keep species that weren't previously endangered alive. Also, if animals are being cloned, where would the cloning stop? If scientists are cloning animals they might start trying to clone humans as well, which could lessen our respect for life. If scientists were able to clone humans, it might become commonplace for people to have a clone for themselves created for the purpose of having an organ donor when they need one. If that was so the created human clones would not be given the basic rights that every human should enjoy, lessening the value for human life as well. On the other hand, if scientists were able to create an ethical method of cloning organs without the need of using a living host, I would be able to agree to use it in modern medicine. That being said, beyond an ethical cloning of organs, cloning would not be an ethical or wise idea, especially if the cloning is of organisms such as animals or humans.
