I am all for bringing back that which we humans have wiped out, but there is no point doing it if we aren't going to change our behaviors that killed these creatures off in the first place. As Mr. Zimmer said, if their former habitats don't exist, or are unsuitable then bringing them back is pointless.

We have a obligation to bring back some animals, those that were wiped out because of our carelessness or could benefit the world by filling the gap they left, but we have to keep in mind that some species, may be brought back, but would be without habitat.
While it may be fun to have sabertooth cats and bailongs again, and to admire them in zoos, but they haveno habitat, serve no purpose.
We should focus on Aurochs, Quaggas, Passenger Pidgeons first, As they are the easiest to bring back.
Then we should look to the Pyrenean Ibex, Woolly Mammoth and Dodos.
But our attention should be with preservation first, but never with reviving animals like the sabertooth, which died out, not because of us, but because of nature

In his article for National Geographic, titled "Bringing Them Back to Life" he mentions Jurassic Park
Here is a quote from the article "In Jurassic Park dinosaurs are resurrected for their entertainment value. The disastrous consequences that follow have cast a shadow over the notion of de-extinction, at least in the popular imagination. But people tend to forget that Jurassic park was pure fantasy."
Also, in his article and in this lecture he states that it is impossible to bring back dinosaurs

It'd be wiser to prevent pollution and stop further species extinctions rather than reproduce them in a hostile enviroment.

We could bring back the Thylacine, Carolina parakeet, Passenger pigeon & gastric brooding frog at least.
Their habitat still exists but the tundra that supported the Mammoth is also extinct so were would we put them? Only if a habitat that can sustain species that are now extinct due to our actions would it be advisable to de-extinct them.

Mammoths did not go extinct until a mere 2000 years ago. There environment is still there.
I for one support restoring as many species as possible. Higher genetic diversity means healthier ecosystems.

Only some dwarf mammoths on Wrangle island & the grass steps are gone, it grows lichens & dwarf willows now but perhaps Siberia has an ecosystem they could flourish in. I think it was humans that offed the Mammoths not just the change in climate.
I would certainly like to see them try to de-extinct those who extinction we caused & that's a lot of animals.

These animals are extinct for a reason, excluding animals we hunted to extinction very recently.
We could bring them back, into a world they aren't adapted for, but I think they'd just go extinct again. Let nature move on, and develop new animals!

It would be super awesome to have these long extinct animals come back to life, but if we bred them, where would they go? Yeah we have reserves for endangered species, but these animals are in the "mindset" of animals thousands of years ago. We can't know for sure how they're like just from their DNA.
Also our environment is not like how is was back then. With the whole climate change, deforestation, etc., I think it would be, not impossible, but difficult for these animals to adapt.

This diverts attention from the far more important task of stopping our destruction. Scientists often have a hard time with reason.

YES, hell yes. this is what science is for, bring back all the great animals that once roamed this rock with us. the irish elk, the saber tooth cat, the whooly mammoth and rhino, fuck yeah! do it, quickly, before i die! please

Despite what he says... that is exactly what they did in Jurassic Park.

    回樓下,他的意思是人類必須回復過去那個未受污染的自然,必須在那種狀態下去繁殖已滅絕物種才是值得的。

I wouldn't say go as far back as the mega-fauna die off since the last ice age. Maybe only as far back as the mammoths 4500 years ago. But no further. And we should definitely work our way backward rather than starting WAY in the past. Bring back the recent extinctions first and then work back toward the older stuff....but IMO definitely stop at the mammoth. I've always said that Jurassic Park's main reason for failure was carnivores. If they didn't resurrect the carnivores that could've worked.

We have the obligation to return to cleaner environment. We must stop behaving like sadistic/powerful/destructive beings and be reason/logic/wisdom based beings and preserve the planet or we will be extinct too!!!!
