- All of a sudden she's ready to move onto the next thing after crushing her current goals. Sometimes we have a little resistance to therapy because she just doesn't want to work but then there are days like today that she knocks it out of the park.

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist and I work with kids on the autism spectrum in an outpatient clinic setting. I wish ALL my parents were like you guys! You’re awesome. And so is Abby ❤️
What's wrong with your other parents?
SO impressed with the progress Abbie has made wearing a mask!!!
Y'all should get a volleyball net for the pool for Summer. You can tell she misses it.
I like the shorts!
A great idea
As a teacher, it literally hurt my heart to hear that Abbie was forced to sit facing a wall at a school. I’m so thankful that you’ve found a school that works with her and pushes her to her full potential. I’m so glad that my school and district value each child and work to meet all of their needs!
I love the faces Abbie made when she started doing therapy. She’s so beautiful 🌺🌸🌷
It looks like she was smirking while doing therapy! It’s almost like she’s thinking in her mind “Yeah I get it, Dad!”
Friend: "What are you watching?" Me: "This is Fathering Autism." Friend: *excited* "Oh is that the Abbie one?!" Me: "Yes it is!!!"
My daughter also calls it "The Abbie show" lol
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻 very cool 😎
My son hears the Abbie noises and knows it’s FA time :) we love this vlog!
Haha my family ask ‘oh are you watching Abbie again?’, they recognise her too 😂
My family also knows when it’s “Abbie Time” I literally watch y’all everyday!!
Goodness sakes.....her faces during therapy! She made me smile and laugh, she's so cute!❤😊
@@crazydiamond4565 One of her stims
Dark_side_of_the_moon 20 I wish I could to. That’s just Ab.
@@fatheringautism Well said! ❤💪🏻
She has improved so much. I'm so proud of her.
Abbie blows me away on every vlog I watch. She really is so smart. Before i started watching I don't know what I thought but I sure did not realize how much people with nonverbal autism really understood. Thank you for sharing your family. I've learned so much. And I gotta say, she is super adorable.
Abbie is doing so well! I’m so proud of her!! And of course it’s because of her family helping her!! You guys rock!!
Ab's giggling at you wanting her to crawl under the covers made me really smile for the first time today.
She is just adorable. I love how you work with her on all aspects of life.
I have high functionin Asperger's Syndrome, a form of Autism. This form is rare in boys but extremely rare in girls. I couldn't talk until I was two and I've come so far.
Caidyn K. I’m a woman with Aspergers. I’m now studying computer engineering at a university.
Well done both of you!!
My best friends twin sister has autism, they said she would never be able to speak but when she was nine she started talking
Caidyn K. I have autism I couldn’t talk until I was 4 I had speech therapy
I say the experts dont know everything...I have autism (some where in the middle of the spectrum), didn't talk until I was 3. Was diagnosed with autism and bipolar at 10, a team of state doctor specialists stated I wouldn't make it past 8th grade due to all my co-issues. Ended up only missing 1.5 semesters from graduating college with a bachelor's before breaking down and not being able to resume.
Abby has come so far since I've started watching your vlogs! I know that you've been doing school from home since COVID-19 started (I can't believe it's been four to six months already!) and now it's the summer holidays, but she's doing so well with her bag, with her speech therapy, her orientation, not freaking out whenever she comes home and now she's wearing a mask! I can't wait until Brandy comes back and we're able to see their dynamic after not having her there for so long! Is it weird for me to say that I miss seeing her in your vlogs (though I've said it before)? I'm a girl of routine and not having her in your vlogs is breaking my routine! Seriously, though, I'm glad to see Abby so much happier and how far she's come! You go, girl! By the way, that smile whilst she was playing in bed melted my heart!
she is doing a great job with the mask, totally can relate the feeling of want it off ur face
Fabiola De La Garza i cant wear a mask due 2 avin asma & wit ma autistic traits coz itz 2 irritatin on ma face & i just wana rip it off.
Yup, a severely autistic girl is okay(-ish) with wearing a mask for a couple of minutes and still there are some perfectly healthy idiots who won't...
Samo Burns can relate, not autism but asthma
Juleru I knowww, even worse understanding the whole thing and still doing nothing
I just got my wisdom teeth taken out Friday. So watching your vlogs makes my day. I love hearing Abbie laugh. I have learned so much about autism. I have cousins with autism and it helps me understand them more. Thank you!!!
The faces Ab was making during the colors, she’s like “dad I know my colors even with my eyes closed” 😂
I just love the faces Abbie was making when she was naming the colors. lol. My guy makes funny faces too. Just adorable.
Abbie's face when she began therapy is the same face i make when I have to start cooking and cleaning.
😂😂💯👌
Love that girl to bit. Abbie is so comical. The eye thing in therapy to cute. Of course joking around at bedtime. Thank you so very much for sharing. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
She is really progressing with her daily life activities. She is communicating great 👍🏼
Hiii, i am talking from Brazil!! I live you guys, so proud of your family, abbey is amazing!!
Abbie is doing so well wearing her mask! I understand how difficult it is for her to have things on her face/head, but I also appreciate how you're not using that as an "excuse" (if that's the right word) for at least not trying/teaching her to wear one. I'm so proud of her for how hard she's working in speech therapy. :)
Abbie reminds me so much of my aunt I lost a couple years ago. I was her day provider and she was a big part of my life. Since finding your channel Abbie has really helped me feel connected to my sweet aunt again. Thank you for sharing her with us
Hi Maass family! Professional seamstress here. I would inquire to find out if the fabric was prewashed before the masks were constructed. Anything made of natural materials like cotton, linen or blends of either should be prewashed to avoid shrinkage. If they are 100% cotton and where not, that would explain the shrinking issue.
I love her evil little giggle when she does things like that to get out of bed 😂 she’s so cute!! I just love her! 🥰
I love watching Abby she makes me smile. She just makes mine day.
I love target but just had knee surgery so thanks for taking us with you ! So proud of Abbie with her mask it is uncomfortable autism or not
Abbie is doing so well with wearing the mask. She’s also doing a great job mastering all her colors
Great job wearing your mask Miss Abbie. I'm also super impressed with the way you are learning your colors. You are such a smart girl. Keep up the great work!!
I was listening to your daughter and she sounds so much like my boy who also has autism and also is non verbal. Abby you are Awesome and sooooo Smart!
such a sweet family. such a breath of fresh air to watch your videos
So many kids don’t have support she has, she’s lucky, but especially u guys are, to have her, she’s hilarious.
I would love a mask with abbies art on it! It would be a daily reminder to find happiness in the smallest of things!
My whole family LOVES little peppers for a snack. Hey if you guys ever want to do a little ASL class email me. I’ve done classes for non verbal kids and their family several times. AND.. I’d be happy to tutor Becca too. No charge for either one. Just wanna help out .
Abbie was faking like she was sleepy in therapy was funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel really claustrophobic when I wear the mask so Abbie is doing so amazing! ❤️ Wow! Great job in your lessons too! 👍🏻
My younger brother is autistic watching your videos inspire me to try new things I never new u could communicate through I.pads like that!! It's so fricking awesome to see he also loves peppers 😊
I used to watch very little Tv now I this is the only vlog I watch .I love your family and I can't wait to see what's in store for Abbie .I believe she will be a leader in her community
Based off the title and description go Abbie!!💙
When you buy pool stuff, I always remember that one time you had to buy a tube thing because Abbie took a bite off it.
I am a proud autism dad as well. She is adorable. And the dabbing shirt is awesome.
I’m sooooo proud of Abbie for wearing the mask for probably the longest period of time yet!! Plus you weren’t even counting while you were in the store.
Abbie is doing so well with the mask. It must be such a difficult thing to adapt to.
I love this family!!!! Much love from FL
My daughter has the same masks as Abbie❤️ I love that they came in a 2 pack!
Abby so proud of you. Keep up the great work!!!!!
I’m so proud of Abbie :) she is such an inspiration
Asa, u got Abbie hyped... talking about old times when the furniture had to b upside down😂
My friends and I call what Abbie has before bed the mad hahas!!! So tired you can’t help but laugh
I learn so much from all of you. Abbie you are crushing colors with little effort. So proud of you girl! If you all ever come to Southern Oregon I would be thrilled to show you around our sleepy little town and show off our beauty.
Haha, I saw the [in]famous Cabbage patch doll :D
It was funny that at the end, when you talked about Abbie putting furniture upside down,
and she screamed a little, almost like she was saying ''daaaaad don;t tell that'' xD
So thankful she has such a wonderful family 💚 you guys are absolutely the best.. Wish ever child had you as a parent
lol....seems like Abbie knew that Asa was talking about her when he was bringing up old stuff she used to do....because she kept yelling trying to get him to stop 🤣🤣🤣....such a smart girl🥰🥰
She may be mostly mute but she is definitely not "dumb," as they used to call it the Bad Old Days. She is clearly able to understand not only others' verbal communication but their moods and nonverbal communication as well. The incessant shoulder tapping and constant requests to do something else are typical teenage behavior. I like that Asa recognizes that but I don't think it's completely helpful to compliment her for using her words but not remaining on task. It's a judgment call though. You pick your battles or risk causing defiant behaviors. I say this as a dad who would reflexively say "no" and then encounter some surprisingly devious behaviors from my own child.
Neil K Walk well geez it was just a simple comment that I found funny....ik Abbie can understand a whole lot....didn’t know it would be taken the wrong way🤦🏾♀️😒
Makayla Williams Sorry. Yeah, she’s smart. Smart enough to be a stinker tho! Kids push buttons. Asa was just going on and on too. Dads...pfft.
Neil K Walk yea....if anything it was a yelling stim that happened right on time😅
Abbie tries to escape
Asa: Uh uh back in bed
Abbie: Dang foiled again!
Abbie is doing awesome with her 😷 mask...she is getting so much more tolerant with lots of things lately...💖💖
Hi Abbie and family hope y'all had a wonderful 4th of July yesterday, hope y'all are having a wonderful day and stay safe out there
I love those sweet peppers! Eat them all the time as a snack and added to other dishes and salads.
We always called deliriousness at bedtime the "sleepy sillies".
We call them the pre crash crazies! 😂
@@DearestMeg I love that one too.
We call it slap happy 🤣
You do such a great job with her ,you are great parents I enjoy all your videos and watch all of them I don’t usually comment,I’m from Canada ,Newfoundland so you have a Canadian friend. Thanks keep up the great work !
Lately we’ve had issues with the amazon deliveries. They say package handed directly to resident but we have never had a package directly handed to us. They don’t even knock. It’s been very frustrating. We’ve had at least six packages never delivered. It’s annoying to have to call and each time it was there delivery drivers.
Lovely family , I love watching you!
Abbie is doing so awesome ! ❤️❤️❤️
i think it's really cool that Abbie is now going to bed in "regular" pajamas. At least in the portion of what we see, she doesn't sleep in the backwards onesies with a hoodie on over them. I also think it's really cool that in most of the pictures you guys post on social media Abbie is looking in the camera. Now I obviously don't see the pictures that don't get posted, but I see old pictures and old videos where almost all of the pictures of her she was looking anywhere but the camera. She's doing really great!
I love Abbie so much!
THOSE FLOATS ARE THE BEST! Sorry for the caps... strong feelings about the float! 😆 Not only is the one you bought nice, but the Papasan chair style Springfloat is also great... perfect for sitting in the pool to just hang out!
You might want to Lysol the bottoms of Abbie’s shoes when she comes back to the car since she handles the soles when she puts them on.
We use hand sanitizer once she’s settled in her seat.
Oh great, so your sanitizing off camera! That’s reassuring. ❤️
Here’s what caused my concern:
5:40, her hand is on the bottom of her shoe as she puts them on to go in the house.
6:02, her hand is against her mouth whiles she’s stimming, walking toward the gate to the yard.
In 22 seconds she’s transferred from the bottom of her shoe to her mouth.
I was worried this would be another instance where someone got OCD wrong but with Abbie the Why doesnt matter amd you described it factually not jokingly so im glad. OCD can be a seriously debilitating issue when severe and it hurts to know how few truly understand that
Abbie' you are just to adorable I'm so proud of you and your progress 💓💓💓💓
The bedtime giggles are always a great memory. There is a different moon this weekend, could be that. The long term care home I am working at, the residents get wired up.
Oh my gooooddddnessss!!! 15:10 is my favorite goofy extra sleepy Abbie sound from a year ago!! I know her worried or nervous sounds and 'yelling' and her funny happy sounds... i'm just wondering - does she make other fun sounds like this anymore? I realize this video was over a year ago LOL!
She’s so smart!! Yey Abbie !!!
“...obviously distracted...” - Asa
As Asa is obviously distracted 😂
I Love This Family ❤️💙
Same
Skye L The coolest family ever
Amanda Lee My favorite family
Amanda Lee Yes do you know them? Just asking
I forth that!
Half a million subs! Congrats!!
My daughter has a form of Autism that isn’t as severe, for lack of a better word, as some but she has the OCD stuff. She will tie things together with ANYTHING she can get. Phone cords, shoe strings, anything that’s rope like. But I enjoy so much seeing how well Abby is doing and how far she has come!!!
This doesn’t sound right, but I love seeing Abbie being able to wear a mask. And my students love playing Velcro Catch! The tug of pulling the ball off is real!
AWESOME vlog as always. I'm no eye doctor I'm just trying to help. Could you take here communication device with you to the eye doctor and get them and get them to put a colour on the wall and get Abbey to communicate with her IPad to what's the colour is? It might help you find out if Abbey has a problem with seeing colour or not. Xoxo
Those faces Abbie lol at therapy. She’s so beautiful
Unpopular opinion: I loathe Target. I just don’t get it
I work at one and its ruined the fun of a " target run" forever.
Reese Hill agreed
why?
Because I don’t.
Abbie did SO great wearing her mask!
I love you guys so much! I binge watched you guys two days straight!
Hope all of you will always be healthy and safe from this pendemic
There were those coloured sinking rings in Target. You could use them in the pool to work on her colours and also to work on her swimming. I used those types of things a lot when I used to teach swimming lessons. Even if she won’t go under water to get them, you could do that at the edge of the pool or whatever.
I use sweet peppers to replace chips for different kinds of dip.
Those peppers are one of my fav snacks! love your family!
Great job Abbie with wearing the mask in the store for just a short time! It’s progress
We live at Badin Lake in NC....I have like 8 of those floats. We keep 4 at the house just for the lake and 4 in the boat for when we just wanna jump off the boat and go swimming. They are the BEST floats
My son has “super ADHD” if he doesn’t take pills at night he will not fall asleep. He takes clonidine and a 5 mg melatonin. I think you mentioned before that you give Abbie some thing to help her sleep. Just curious what is it that you give her? I don’t know but I’m thinking since she wakes up so many times during the night maybe she could possibly have something stronger. Of course I’m not a doctor I don’t know. Have you talked to her doctor about this?
Oh Abbie 😊😚 you make me laugh and smile so much! Such a sweet girl! What a wonderful family. Great job on the mask 😷
I have a problem wearing masks, so Abbie is doing great!! So proud!
come on. we all did that as kids. in the middle of school, in the middle of the afternoon. we feel oh so, ooooh, sleepy. we get home we lose our freakn minds. then we get to home work and, man am i tired again. we fiinish our homework and our parents are yelling at us to calm down. lol i love you guys
Wow! I just learned that my son (who is 5 with ASD) does the same thing! He has messy OCD like Abbie. I have tried everything. He loves cars, monster trucks, and animals and he always wants them on the living room floor or the couches. Just in a pile.
Abbie looks so cute with her ponytail
I think that Abbie is always cute
and Yes I have subscribed to your
Utube channel,
You always are doing interesting things
Abbie was terrific in therapy!
I love that you were listening to watermelon sugar by Harry Styles in the background while driving in the car!
I have never seen a human being just chow down on some peppers 😄
...now I'm considering trying it.
I’m amazed that Abbie kept the mask on at all! Great for her! I wonder if the more she sees y’all with mask on is she more likely to attempt wearing it. 🤷♀️
Why is he talking to the therapist about her like she’s not there. I have learning disabilities and I’m mentally disabled. . I hate when people talk about me, instead of with me.
I know this may seem unfair or inconsiderate, but the conversation they are having is important for her and is difficult to have in a more private manner, if you will, due to the pandemic. I am a behavioral therapist and although I spend most of my sessions speaking directly to my kiddos, I need to have similar conversations at times with the behavioral analyst I work under in order to plan the most effective therapy plan. As Abby is working on her communication it is great for her father to speak the best he can on her behalf. I always appreciate when caregivers do the same for me when talking to my none verbal kiddos because they do not always have the ability quite yet to tell me what I need to be able to help them, whereas the caregiver may be able to give me insight. The end goal will be to be able to talk directly with the kiddos for the most part and I have to say it’s heartwarming to be able to do so and as a therapist I always would prefer getting to talk with them over the caregivers and not speak as if they were not there like you said.
Why do you assume it wasn't Abby's choice to not be involved in the conversation?
Sure some people can exclude those who are disabled but then the parent/carer should speak up.for the disabled person & ask the other person to include them.
Often in professional meetings or in long conversations I find it overwhelming or I can't keep up, so I focus on my tablet & my mum will talk for me. If I hear something I disagree with I can speak up or show I disagree.
