  • The Monday Night Football lights are burning bright in Texas Stadium for the 1985 regular season opener between bitter NFC East rivals Dallas and Washington. The Redskins have won 3 in a row in the series. Will Tom Landry, Danny White and the Cowboys end the skid, or will Joe Gibbs and Joe Theismann celebrate yet another big win in Big D?
Frank Gifford, Joe Namath, and O.J. Simpson call the game for ABC. Enjoy!

This was also the first MNF game of the post-Don Meredith era

Yes. Was never quite the same without Dandy Don.

Meredith is easily one of the five greatest color commentators of all time. His quick-wittedness combined with his affable Southern charm made him a true pleasure to listen to while watching the game.

Theismann was so bad in this game that he got benched after all those interceptions.

If anyone can download it, I would love to see the 1992 game in Washington.

One of the more iconic victories growing up because of what Thurman’s Thieves did to Theismann on his birthday. Complete destruction of their rival!

I was 12 years old in 1985. I was not allowed to stay up late enough to watch MNF, but I was allowed to use our new VCR to tape the games. I would wake up at 4am, and watch the game before I would go to school. In the pre-internet days, there was no way to find out what happened in the game other than to watch it. I could have fast forwarded I suppose, but I always chose to watch as if it was airing live at 4am.
Later that season I, of course, taped the game where Theismann's leg was broken by Lawrence Taylor. When word spread through our school that I had a tape of the game I became a bit of a celebrity. Everyone wanted to come over to my house to watch it happen. There was no other way at that time to see it.

These were the ONLY games I was allowed to stay up for.. as a Cowboys fan in the DC burbs, it was either gonna be a quiet day or Hell the day after. I relished the silence after this one!! Was 12 at the time as well, and I miss the rivalry.

2:34:16 -- Joe Theismann, on a night in which he and his son celebrated thier 36th and 14th birthdays respectively, getting trolled by both the Cowboy fans, as well as the pep band, after throwing five interceptions.
Several months later, in a November Monday Night Football game against the Giants, Joe would suffer a broken leg after being sacked by Lawrence Taylor. The injury ultimately turned out to end his career.

This is a random one but do you happen to have 2004 Cowboys Vs Raiders (preseason)? Might be a long shot but please let me know! Thanks!

Dallas didn't play Houston in 1998. Not sure which game you might be referring to.
I don't have the 2004 Raiders preseason game.

    Victor Scott, #22.
Will Emmitt be the last player to wear #22 for the Cowboys...
The Cowboys don't typically retire numbers, and #88 is still in circulation for them. So, you wonder whether they will unofficially retire #22.

I was only 13 when the game was played. Loved how the crowd booed Joe Theismann every time he entered the game and then sang “Happy Birthday” to him after his epic 5 interception performance

    Punter and Quarterback Danny White

  • @SingleTax

1:20:39 - That was a reckless throw by Danny White -- a pass which he probably thought was going to be intercepted. Instead Mike Renfro made an *outstanding* sideline catch that turned a bad throw into a completion. White knew this, which is why he pointed right at Renfro after the play as if to say: "Thanks, dude, you saved my ass on that one." Renfro played brilliantly in this game.
