Hi great video I'm trying to do research on the direction of the removal and installation of sights on xd9 and I've found other videos with different direction. I'm more confused now can you explain why you do left to removed and right to install?
I haven’t needed to adjust or replace many sights (just 3, iirc), but here’s what I’ve learned on my journey: Traditionally, dovetail slots for the sights were often tapered (when viewed from the top) or pinned (S&W revolver and some rifle front sights being some common uses of pinning). To my understanding, the frequent use of tapered sight slots remains largely the same to the present day. Some manufacturers use L->R tapers, while others use R->L. A smaller number of models, often lower-cost and/or rimfire ones, use strictly friction fits, without any tapers. To my understanding, Springfield sight slot tapers are always larger on the left when the muzzle is pointed away. So, to completely release the sight, the sight must be pushed to the left, toward the larger end, and it will slowly loosen up. Reinstallation is naturally the opposite - press left to right, as shown in the video. Note that sights are generally designed with enough friction - imposed by the interaction of shims and/or pips in concert with the dovetail - to allow for some L or R adjustment. Thus, the sights will not immediately release when moved, even in direction of release. The sustained pressure & movement required is one, key reason why the pusher tool is highly recommended. The proper tool also sharply reduces the chances of nicking the slide, as could easily happen were a brass punch to be used instead. Hope that helps. If not, lmk. Be well.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking to replace my Tactical XD 40 sights with Ameriglo I-Dot sights. Gunsmith charges $80 an hour. Doing it myself pay for itself. I'll be ordering the Lyman or Wheeler sight pusher "Buy American made" when you can.
I'm getting ready to put Ameriglo I-Dots on an XD Sub Compact. I already did the same sights on a Glock with this exact tool except it's marketed by Wheeler Engineering.
You have 2 videos using this tool on 2 different XD's. One video you removed the front sight pushing towards the ejection port (looking down your sight left to right) and your other video you say the complete opposite. I'm about to change my sights and I've seen other videos and read other comments and no one seems to agree. Do you happen to know? I have read all kinds of stuff on the internet such as XD talk forum and doesn't seem like anyone agrees.
Try putting gun oil on it and let it sit over night, i used a penetrating oil called pb blast and let it sit over night, but someone said it can ruin your finish, so use that at your own discretion.
@@wallas0786 I spray some pb blast on it and n leave it over night and still can't get it out the next day. The stock front sight is still on til this day. Wont event budge anywhere. The sight Pusher didn't do any justice at all so I'm pretty torn about it
Man, I have tried everything. My slide keeps rotating counterclockwise noatrer how much I tighten the side slide knobs. I tried using duct tape to help the slide grip the tension pads. I've double and triple checked alignment, Ive soaked the sight overnight with 3 different lubes.... XD 40 sub-compact
PB BLASTER WILL DESTROY THE FINISH Such as blueing, cerakote or durakote…. DO NOT ISE IT / LET IS SIT OVER NIGHT . Simple CLP/GUN OIL works fine. Great instructional video for the tool but be careful move slower. Not a race
HORRIBLE, THOSE SO HIGH SIGHTS ARE FOR WHEN USING RED DOT. AND FROM WHAT I SEE THAT WEAPON DOES NOT HAVE TO INSTALL IT. EXCELLENT VIDEO OF THE TOOL, SEND TO ORDER THAT SAME.
It was a bitch removing the sights from the XD, I tried it and nothing. Then soaked the sights with WD40 and use a rubber mallet. It took some good amount of elbow grease but I finally got them off. You will hear a little snap on each of then when they get "loose". Now I hope the install is much easier.
If I wanted to get Night sights installed on my Springfield sub compact I will take it to a gun Smith and have it done who wants to Give $500 for a sight pusher
Springfield sights are miserably tight. I have been looking for a good sight tool, and this looks like the one!
Thanks for the video I got mine coming in tomorrow
I’m tired of spending money at the gun store to put my sights on.
No worries bro, thats the same reason I bought it, paid itself off right away and I don’t have to wait on anyone anymore

Springfields are the best

The process was the same, i did it to my subcompact mod2 worked well, good luck bro
Sigs are the same way. Definitely will be picking up one of these! Awesome video. Simple and to the point.
Why don’t all gun manufacturers with dovetail sights put those reference lines like On the XDs and XDMs??
Preparation appears to be the key. Good Vid.
Thank you
What is the proper method to determine if the sight is in the exact center of the slide?
Go to the range and see if it lines up with point of impact

My hand hurted for pressing the Xd mod 2 front sight with the Pusher n still haven't got it out yet. Any tips to take it out the front?

@@Xng88 you might have to try a “dovetail sight punch” ive heard some XD’s are crazy difficult
Hey i bought 2 sights so far that doesn’t fit the gun! Where did you find yours ?
😂
Can i borrow that tool to change mine, please.
Yes sure complete stranger. Would you like my social security number also?
I just did XS sights on my XDS-45. What a nightmare.

you might have to hit it with a dovetail sight punch, not sure what size but brownells sells them and you can ask.
Yo I want to get a threaded barrel where did you find that?

Copied the original Wheeler engineering one lol. You can install either way to. Does not matter. I work in the gun industry.
I totally hate Springfield's sights.
