I think it's so lame for him to do "self deprecating" jokes about how handsome he is, he is clearly so insecure, but lying about how his face just happened when it looks like pretty obvious surgeon work is another level. If he embraced the fact he got work done and actually made jokes about himself before, he could actually be funny
If it was a girl making jokes about her looks and that was like her whole bit she'd be slammed for it because girls aren't allowed to think they're pretty without being stuck up or cocky. It's really sucky that we can't even be confident in ourselves without being called out and called names but a guy can make it his whole bit while being confident and hot
Yikes. You realize that show was scripted, right? You can fangril for Zendaya, I understand and you don't need to explain, but you're hung up over a scripted tv segment, where Matt Rife had little media exposure and was just doing what he was told. This isn't only irrelevant to the conversation but it doesn't actually prove anything about his character.
@@cactushiatus4118 I could actually try to have a conversation with you, but it’s clear by your reply that it’s not going to happen. This echo chamber of comments is comical. The video creator and its viewers truly believe they are in the right at all times and that nuance is nonexistent.
the funniest part of all this is that a plastic surgeon on tiktok posted a video saying "after creating the greatest jawline only for the patient to get cancelled" and matt commented "lying about medical history is illegal" like buddy the doc listed no names and you walked into that one 😆
The amount of females who have plastic surgery is 50 times more . He is way more prettier than women with plastic surgeries and makeup combined . Shiver me timbers .
Oh, there’s more: allegedly, a plastic surgeon made a TikTok with the phrase: “my reaction after creating the greatest jawline ever seen just for my client to get cancelled right after”, making a joke about the whole situation and Matt Rife got really upset. He made a comment on the video saying “Lying about medical history is a crime, FYI”. The surgeon didn’t even mentioned his name and he got worked up. their is nothing wrong with being a crowd work comedian but you have to know when that’s what you are. If your comedic chemistry comes from bouncing off other people, then you probably shouldn’t have a Netflix special where you don’t bounce off of anyone. There’s a reason why John Mulaney has had like four Netflix specials already because he’s creative and comes up with a set that doesn’t need Crowd work , he is just funny.
john mulaney recently joined chapelle in the pantheon of guys who were funny at some point but then transphobia brainrot took over their brain, sorry to inform you
I can completely agree with this. Almost all videos of his that I’ve watched are his crowd work highlights. Me and my brother watched about 20 minutes of his special and changed to someone else
He did an entire special of just crowd work, saying he's tired of it and wants to put it to bed after one last hurrah. He said he's not a "crowd work comedian," that he has always had written material too, that's just what people see on social media, and because of that when folks go to see him live they're always shouting out interrupting his sets trying to get picked, which is annoying, and he'd rather do material like normal. I'm not a super fan or anything, I only learned of him maybe 2-3 months ago when he made a couple of appearances on some YMH pods. That's where I got his explanation. I did watch the crowd work special bc I was curious about it after hearing that, otherwise that's it. Haven't been on social media since like 2018.
Agree, some comedians *cough* ashley gavin... Enjoy crowdwork because they think they can be dicks to the audience members in the name of comedy. While good comedians don't have to be total asses and can come up with fun sets without upsetting/attacking anyone
Right? And comedy is changing, I know of one comedian who is like a king in crowd work- so he got a special doing JUST crowd work. It was phenomenal. Was it his best? No. Crowd work kind of just happens and it’s best when it is- unplanned. But he was so good it didn’t matter- it made a great special. This guy is too mid for either sides
Matt Rife killed his career because instead of getting mad at the people who dismissed his hard work as “just coasting off his good looks and having an audience of thirsty women,” he grew resentful of his audience and tried to distance himself from them in the worst way possible
The worst part about all of this(for me at least) is that Rife almost certainly has not “ruined his career”…he will likely get a huge boost in fans now from the anti-woke crowd, and will probably have another Netflix special next year titled: “Matt Rife: Cancelled” 😒
Yes! It’s awesome that he isn’t caving to the woke ideology. It’s great to see that people are not fearful of the woke crowd and it’s also great to see that cancel culture is losing its power.
@@user-on1en3if5ywhat is the woke idealogy in this scenario? Being actually good at comedy instead of coasting on your looks and temporary controversy?
Honestly sometimes I think our perception is fucked. A woman can be nice to me and I think nothing of it, happens several times a day, but when a man is nice to me I think he‘s basically the nicest person in the world. We need to give women more credit and seriously stop praising especially masculine men for doing the bare minimum. Being masculine shouldn’t be an excuse not to be nice or emotionally intelligent.
this, it's like how people praise men for "babysitting" their own children like that's just parenting- In some cases we expect the best from women and the bare minimum from men and that needs to change.
I'm the opposite, when a guy pays me a compliment i feel like he expects something back or something because most of the time it is that way, but when a woman does, i feel like the prettiest girl/ makes my day and it feels genuine. Although....once a guy actually paid me a compliment and walked away, so that was just a different experience.

Ah yes. Schrodinger's Douchebag. Doing or saying something rude/inappropriate/awful and waiting to see the reactions of others to decide whether it was a joke or in all seriousness.
Matt Rife has what we call, “pretty privilege.” Also, just gonna say that as a bisexual woman, I have never been attracted to Ryan Reynolds. Have at him, boys.
I’ve only seen Ryan Reynolds in Detective Pikachu. He doesn’t look like the kind of men I’d typically think of as attractive but in that brief role I can see how people would find the kind dad vibe he gives off very attractive.
I'm bi and I think he's very attractive. Not into married dudes, tho. And definitely not gonna compete with Blake lively (who I also find attractive and cool)
With Matt doing this to get rid of a female audience makes me so sad, because you can still be respected. Case in point, Bo Burnham has a lot of fans that are teenage girls, and he's not ashamed of that. Hes said he's proud of that and that he's glad people feel seen.
I remember that he thought a guy friend around a girl who already has a boyfriend is a walking red flag bc the friend *only* befriends the girl to sleep with her. and the joke was "I know this because I've done it sooo many times" meaning he befriendes girls simply to sleep with them. I don't know how people didn't walk out of that show, realizing that this is disguised misogyny dressed as poor stand-up comedy.
Yeah that was the first stand up I saw of him and I felt grossed out by the whole thing. I can appreciate good jokes but that whole bit made me side eye him especially when he undid his belt during it smh. Really creepy. And I love how men like that genuinely think they are representatives of all men and are so absolute with their generalizations.
According to him, there was one exception to this 'rule', which is that the girl has to be ugly for a guy to be actually friends with her. So every single person criticised his misogynistic take was called ugly in the comments. " Oh, you are just butthurt because you are ugly "
so then how are ppl surprised by his new special, its the same unoriginal comedy hes always done... tiktok girls need to listen to ppl not just drool over them, jesus this is boring
Oof... and us ladies all know what it's like to have a guy befriend you just so he can try to sleep with you. He could've gone in a more sympathetic direction and I would've loved it, but nope, he just brags about being a creep 🙄
@@whelkpeopleofdoom Exactly, if a guy befriends a girl just because he wants to sleep with her, then shouldn't any joke made about that situation be at his expense ?

its funny how Matt Rife said that he was going to cater his Netflix special to his male audience so that he doesn't have to pander his jokes to women, but he's actually pandering to his male audience by writing jokes that only a male audience will specifically find funny like domestic abuse, sexism, and racism. You are so right with the middle-aged america comment. My mom was so obsessed with this joke when she heard it and literally harassed me into letting her tell it to me ( i already knew about the joke and didnt want to hear it) and then got mad when i said i still didnt think it was funny
It wasn't only about that joke about the black eye. It's about that his set then continued to be a narration of mocking different demographics of women without any punchlines or humor in it (young women, elderly ladies, obese women) etc. He also came off as frustrated and negative without a reason when he started talking about how people disagreed with him about the flight attendant tweet incidents. The rest of the show was unneccessary aggressive comments about children and borderline racism. All of it ofc something that can exist successfully in a stand up performance, but it needs to be executed perfectly. Matt's performance on Netflix was very substandard in execution. So he was both unlikable, unfunny, and inconsistent woth what the audience expected. Is it a rebranding, or a career suicide, time will tell. My humble opinion is that he is not funny enough to survive amongst the politically incorrect rough comedians who could eat him in one bite, and for the softer audience he is not lovable enough anymore.
That's the thing all the "anti woke" people miss. You can tell racist, misogynistic, bigoted jokes. It's just INCREDIBLY hard to do it in a way that's actually funny, and punches up. Like it's always sunny is a great example, the characters are TERRIBLE people and that's what makes it funny. We're laughing at the racism, not the victims. His jokes just aren't witty, thoughtful, or even written by him. The jokes are pre-written by stereotypes and memes. As you said, the whole set is incredibly aggressive and seems like he's personally angry talking directly to someone. It almost seems like he wrote the entire thing after a breakup.

The way he ended his special with “I only do crowd work, right?” Felt so pretentious too. Like he marketed himself based on his crowd work, and now he’s mad that that’s what people know him by. So dumb.

Yeah, Buccal fat removal, some kind of jaw manipulation, cheek fillers, and veneers. Dude's the male version of Kim Kardashian. Do what you want, but don't deny that you did it.
i used to really enjoy his tiktok videos (only the crowd work) but after his recent netflix special i was absolutely horrified.. mostly by the fact that not one joke was funny at all and i was cringing most of the time because the jokes came off offensive to me (especially that airplane part which dragged on for so long) but honestly i started to question myself because he's actually not funny at all, i'm suprised he's classified as a comedian, he's really good at crowd work but not with creating and delivering his own content.. idk maybe it's just me, does anyone else feel the same?
I agree to be honest, I would watch his crowd work videos and I actually thought they were pretty funny and watched some of his interviews and started to like him as a person and comedian. I was excited to watch his natural selection special on Netflix but as I was watching all I could think in my head was “does he not like women” because it felt like every joke was just making fun of women and I only watched like 15 min 😂. It’s unfortunate because I really wanted to see him succeed and was excited to see more of his comedy but after this idk if I will.
I feel exactly the same! His tiktok crowd work looked promising, but his special was not funny aside from maybe a few lines. His jokes dragged on for way too long and most of the time I felt like he was ranting about something instead of making a joke. Plus a lot of his jokes did not make sense for his audience at all....like women need another get in the kitchen joke. 🙄
I personally think comedians should be able to make darker jokes but most of his comedy is not funny including the bit people are mad at. Thought he was hilarious cuz until a few days ago all I seen was crowd work compilations.
Honestly, I was swayed by his looks but when I found out he was the one to touch THE ZENDAYA like that, I immediately lost any ounce of attraction. That’s just gross. You don’t touch people, ESPECIALLY their face and absolutely ESPECIALLY NOT LIKE THAT
He literally got a bit of cosmetic surgery to prove people only liked him for his looks and not his jokes, but then gets mad when he creates an audience that’s attracted to him. 😂 Some humans are silly…
YES. I have been a fan of his UA-cam specials for a while and was excited to see him on Netflix-but I turned that shit off halfway through. He was just… so bitter and nasty. Mocking young women, fat people, kids… it felt so much meaner than the stuff I’d seen him do before. Really made me sad because I was 100% rooting for his success.
i used to hate the edgy jokes and the way stand up comedians would joke, but when i found his content and kept seeing people say stuff like "don't watch it if you're going to be offended" or "the stand up comedians don't actually BELIEVE in what they're saying, it's just a joke." it got to me and so i looked past it and believed all that. i thought that i would be cooler or i wouldn't be seen as sensitive if i liked those messed up jokes? anyway, i stopped watching him awhile ago and this video REALLY helped me realize how wrong and 'brainwashed' (for the lack of a better word) i was by other people's comments.. if yall don't like something or don't have a good feeling about something, listen to YOURSELF!! not other people's opinions
You and everyone here (including me) are in a little echo chamber where whatever you think is true is being multiplied and reinforced by more people thinking the same. This video mostly attracts people who hate the comedian or hate the video (because they like the comedian), so you think that most people feel the same way as you do and that there is an "accepted" truth, but it is far from real. You need to distance yourself from others opinions, find yours, and accept that there are people who feel, behave, and think differently from you. Don't fall for the same trap twice, not because you find this comment section more appealing to you means that you or them are right and everyone else is wrong.
@@jamino2012Hi, I know this comment wasn't directed at me but I wanted to weigh in. I have just been recommended this channel today, and it's been really peculiar to see this whole community in the comments section. You are right in labeling it an echo chamber. Every opinionated channel will naturally create one. However, I would like to point out that this is one of the worse ones I've seen. I did not enjoy the video or the comment section and came away feeling kind of sad. I'm used to seeing channels that do deep dives into topics and discuss issues from both sides and try to figure out what we need to take away from the situation. And so it was a bit of a shock to see this video that did none of this and the sole purpose of the video was to make you feel good by being able to feel 'justified' in disliking the comedian. The video barely covered any of the event, and didn't cover the comedians own opinions and stance on the event. No research was put in, and the comment section is just people saying how glad they are that they were right to hate him. Despite his wrongdoing being that one of his jokes in a live set didn't land right. I don't know if my opinion is of any interest to you. But I'd recommend seeing different perspectives on issues that are covered on this channel. My perspective as an outsider is that this guy does not do any research, and that the audience for the content is more interested in being angry than discovering the way forward
@@Joshua_Griffin Nothing wrong on sharing your opinion, I'll even say I agree with you, I feel most of the people on the comment section are just hating and validating each other's hate which for me is very unappealing. That's why when I looked at this comment I jumped in pointing out that just because their "instinct" tells them something, it doesn't mean that they are right about it. I don't care about the comedian but the interactions in the video are pretty negative and most people are hating on each other whether they agree or disagree with the video. We need more critical thinking.
he basically said he won’t “pander” his career to women, and just to impress a bunch of men decided to tell a DV joke which is honestly disgusting like why are you ashamed of a primarily female audience?
Because he’s a comedian, his art is jokes he doesn’t wanna be known as a handsome guy he wants to be known as a comedian. Now that he’s dispelled his audience that sees him as nothing more than a piece of meat he’s now forming the audience he’s always wanted, which is comedy fans.
@@SquidwardProfilePic A specific flavor of comedy fans** You don’t attend standup if you’re not a fan of standup. While I get the “not wanting to be seen as a piece of meat” part, women aren’t going to buy tickets to standup comedy just to ogle.
Joe Rogan has ruined stand-up comedy fr. Matt is a great example of how Rogan would gatekeep stand-up comedy and make newcomers think that you gotta go with the "you cant make joked anymore" mentality for any success.
It's the fact for me that I would have never in a million years recognized Matt Rife as the creepy dude in the Zendaya clip. I mean it's already cringe to have a COMEDY career that SOLELY relies on your looks, but now imagine one that relies on fillers...
i know my comment is super late but matt rife has done things that are also a LOT worse than this. he has made fun of womens bodies insulting the way womens genitalia looks multiple times on podcasts, and just been extremely dehumanizing towards women and when he was confronted about it, he said it's "just guys being guys" at this point it's clear as day that he only sees women as sexual objects.
I feel so validated by this. I actually love stand up, and have seen a ton of specials, including 2 of matt rifes - not this new Netflix one - just to give him a fair shot. I did this despite genuinely hating the first one. he is a HACK, through and through, and I've been saying this for years. 0 original jokes. He likes to say all his haters are just sensitive. Personally, I wasn't offended by anything other than how boring he was. I have seen sets by nobodies that blew his out of the water. Sometimes I think getting famous is the worst thing that can happen to a comedian. I also agree crowd work can be kind of annoying, but I think that's because tiktok has oversaturated that specific genre of comedy. there are some really quick crowd workers out there. There are also a lot of comedians who rely on crowd work as a crutch because, imo, it's easier to make people laugh when you have people to bounce off of (it's like being funny amongst friends as opposed to on a stage all alone). Matt is definitely the latter type. His second special I watched was all crowd work and the few times it is funny, it's because he's talking to a crazy crowd member, not because he did anything special.
This is really interesting! Im not really a stand up person and ive never really found him funny, but figured his actually comedy n not just tiktok clips might be better? Glad to know it just gets worse 💀 hes always seemed so hollow, like the bare minimum of a comedian
It very much reminds me of a Sam Rigel bit ... Where the longer it goes the funnier it gets to me. 🤣 So yeah, I'm really genuinely enjoying the groomer joke too!
7:35 Objection! Hank Green has always been open about sexuality being a spectrum and him being in the middle. The farthest I could remember was him guesting in Rhett and Link's podcast, Ear Biscuits back in 2014 when their format was still talking to other youtubers. So I guess the conversations in that episode didn't go beyond the fanbase.
I love that you mentioned John Mulaney because he is a fantastic comedian who can spin the best fkn yarn without ever punching down, such a contrast to Rife. JM is my favourite comedian, saw him live and he was incredible, I actually sobbed laughing, and he never ragged on anyone inappropriately (apart from himself which obv he has every right to do 😂). Everyone forget about Rife and go rewatch all three John Mulaney specials a million times.

If you're going to purposely choose to be obtuse just to try and have some half ass argument with me... Don't. One of the best explanations for this entire thing I've heard was: "Give a man a microphone and he will tell on himself." And Matt Rife is yet another perfect example of this hubris in an attempt at fame. Editing for extra context: I grew up in an era of children who made dead baby jokes back in middle school, because the more outrageous and wtf-factor something you said had, the funnier it was. The difference between the majority of my generation and Matt Rife is that we grew out of that while Matt Rife never did. (A majority of) My generation realized that that kind of stuff isn't funny but it did inform our kind of humor. We can make jokes about our trauma without batting an eye because of this and because usually it's punching up, making fun of our abusers. The only time our dark humor punches down usually in relation to ourselves when it's self-deprecating. Matt Rife never grew out of the middle school mindset of the more outrageous and offensive the funnier it is and that's the difference. It's not that we can't take a joke it's that we simply no longer find the humor at the expense of innocence funny.
tbh I think he's pretty smart. he used his looks to get famous, doesn't like being known for it as a comedian and is now hard pivoting, and getting "cancelled" is just a very good marketing tool to switch audiences
@@sandycultofthesun I was using hubris lightly though alienating the majority of your audience whether intentional or not could be seen as a hubris move by some.

I agree with you that Matt Rife isnt funny (he's not UNFUNNY per se, but his comedy is very average and nothing special, there are far more talented lesser known comics out there who won't ever get the same exposure he does because theyre not as good looking), however, the fact that Matt Rife is pretty famous and consistently performing at sold out shows proves that being very good-looking (and at the bare minimum not being god awful at comedy) is enough to get you far in comedy.

john mulaney recently joined chapelle in the pantheon of guys who were funny at some point but then transphobia brainrot took over their brain, sorry to inform you
I can completely agree with this.

Being masculine shouldn’t be an excuse not to be nice or emotionally intelligent.
this, it's like how people praise men for "babysitting" their own children like that's just parenting-
In some cases we expect the best from women and the bare minimum from men and that needs to change.
I'm the opposite, when a guy pays me a compliment i feel like he expects something back or something because most of the time it is that way, but when a woman does, i feel like the prettiest girl/ makes my day and it feels genuine. With Matt doing this to get rid of a female audience makes me so sad, because you can still be respected. Case in point, Bo Burnham has a lot of fans that are teenage girls, and he's not ashamed of that. Hes said he's proud of that and that he's glad people feel seen.
He also made a great movie called Eighth Grade about what it's like being a teenage girl and honestly, it was pretty accurate
I remember that he thought a guy friend around a girl who already has a boyfriend is a walking red flag bc the friend *only* befriends the girl to sleep with her. and the joke was "I know this because I've done it sooo many times" meaning he befriendes girls simply to sleep with them. I can appreciate good jokes but that whole bit made me side eye him especially when he undid his belt during it smh. Really creepy. And I love how men like that genuinely think they are representatives of all men and are so absolute with their generalizations.

Agreed. Being risky with dark/edgy/cancellable jokes is something many comedians can do and be liked for. This dude's jokes just weren't good enough.

Also, I’m not saying they can’t be criticized, regardless of talent, anyone can be critiqued. In fact I feel the Chappelle trans bashing is getting tired and calling him out on it is valid, particularly because it doesn’t feel as playful as it once did and is a bit distasteful. He’s still fun to watch though and my main point is that poking fun at worse off groups can be funny, although edgy humor is often far from funny because the ones telling the jokes sometimes think the offense is where the funny aspect lies. Dead baby jokes and rape jokes often have this issue where the intent is more to shock and offend than actually tell a clever and well thought out joke. I feel the comedians I mentioned usually understand this, particularly Bill Burr.

@@winxclubstellamusa Even in context, it is still kind of bad. The guys on the other team act as if Zendaya is a holly cow, which was weird in its own right, but still it was weird of him to grab her face like that.

@@winxclubstellamusaNo you don't just grab someone's literal face especially if they didn't know maybe just don't do it? There's no defense for that just don't invade someone's personal space without asking
The way he ended his special with “I only do crowd work, right?” Felt so pretentious too. Like he marketed himself based on his crowd work, and now he’s mad that that’s what people know him by. So dumb.
Why did he think that he could get away with grabbing ZENDAYA BY HER FACE?
well I mean he kinda did
He's had so much work done that it's frankly hilarious that his main focus now is how "hot" he is.
Right? He looks like he got buccal fat removal 😆 dude is Zoolander
@@laladoglady Exactly! Also, his hair line has changed shape like three times and he went through a "bandana phase", but that's definitely not hair plugs or anything of the sort...

I might get hated for this take… but dark “humor” isn’t funny.
i used to really enjoy his tiktok videos (only the crowd work) but after his recent netflix special i was absolutely horrified.. mostly by the fact that not one joke was funny at all and i was cringing most of the time because the jokes came off offensive to me (especially that airplane part which dragged on for so long) but honestly i started to question myself because he's actually not funny at all, i'm suprised he's classified as a comedian, he's really good at crowd work but not with creating and delivering his own content.. idk maybe it's just me, does anyone else feel the same?
Thought he was hilarious cuz until a few days ago all I seen was crowd work compilations.
the double colleen joke with groomer AND loser was funnier than anything matt rife has ever done
Honestly, I was swayed by his looks but when I found out he was the one to touch THE ZENDAYA like that, I immediately lost any ounce of attraction. That’s just gross. You don’t touch people, ESPECIALLY their face and absolutely ESPECIALLY NOT LIKE THAT
i mean i agree w most things said in the video but touchung zendaya part was definetly scripted.

If he did get work done it was done very well! Very natural
Do you think he got surgery? I think lip, jaw, cheek filler but could be implants!

Sorry, I don't make the rules.
i used to hate the edgy jokes and the way stand up comedians would joke, but when i found his content and kept seeing people say stuff like "don't watch it if you're going to be offended" or "the stand up comedians don't actually BELIEVE in what they're saying, it's just a joke." it got to me and so i looked past it and believed all that. i thought that i would be cooler or i wouldn't be seen as sensitive if i liked those messed up jokes? anyway, i stopped watching him awhile ago and this video REALLY helped me realize how wrong and 'brainwashed' (for the lack of a better word) i was by other people's comments.. if yall don't like something or don't have a good feeling about something, listen to YOURSELF!! not other people's opinions
He said “this just happened” about his face BRUF YOU LITERALLY HAD JAW SURGERY
he basically said he won’t “pander” his career to women, and just to impress a bunch of men decided to tell a DV joke which is honestly disgusting like why are you ashamed of a primarily female audience?
It’s been said that men don’t respect women, they only respect other men and this is literally proving that.
Because he’s a comedian, his art is jokes he doesn’t wanna be known as a handsome guy he wants to be known as a comedian. Now that he’s dispelled his audience that sees him as nothing more than a piece of meat he’s now forming the audience he’s always wanted, which is comedy fans.
right if he would just own up to women liking him more, he could use that as leverage to make fun of insecure men who hate him just for that reason
@@SquidwardProfilePic A specific flavor of comedy fans**
You don’t attend standup if you’re not a fan of standup.
While I get the “not wanting to be seen as a piece of meat” part, women aren’t going to buy tickets to standup comedy just to ogle.
Because they only are there to drool over him, he wants people to appreciate his jokes not his dick.
Joe Rogan has ruined stand-up comedy fr. Matt is a great example of how Rogan would gatekeep stand-up comedy and make newcomers think that you gotta go with the "you cant make joked anymore" mentality for any success.

Joe Rogan isn't the best comic, but he's doing the Lord's work down there in Austin. The world is no longer your safe space, honey!
The joke he did feels like when Disney actors get out of Disney and do something crazy to separate themselves from that image
another UA-camr said Matt looks like a character from 'Big Mouth' and I literally cannot unsee it
he looks like handsome Squidward lol
Didn’t he also tell Zandaya that he want to have “mixed babies” with her? 🤢
Really? That's awful 🤢
WAIT THAT WAS HIM 🤢 BRO I HATE HIM EVEN MORE NOW
Ew. I was told that by a man before. We were both teens. Still gross.
Get his ass Tom
“I’m talking poop girl” 😭 he is so out of pocket
The thing about Ryan Reynolds is that he’s mainly attractive to heterosexual men, which is a fascinating aspect of his social presence.
Glad to know it just gets worse 💀 hes always seemed so hollow, like the bare minimum of a comedian
the groomer joke unironically gets funnier each time

Mulaney had a transphobic comedian spit a bunch of transphobic jokes at one of his shows and laughed, I'd call that punching down
@@heyspeckle8782that's a shame, is there a vid somewhere? I haven't seen anything like this. I still appreciate how his own comedy doesn't punch down though.
Didn't Mulaney cheat on his wife and did dr*gs or something? Maybe I'm just going insane at this point
Good comedy tho, yeah
@@candylide yep, major drug addict, his latest special was all about that - not sure about the cheating part, maybe - his comedy is amazing and doesn't drag anyone down apart from himself.

One of the best explanations for this entire thing I've heard was: "Give a man a microphone and he will tell on himself." And Matt Rife is yet another perfect example of this hubris in an attempt at fame.
Editing for extra context:
I grew up in an era of children who made dead baby jokes back in middle school, because the more outrageous and wtf-factor something you said had, the funnier it was. It's not that we can't take a joke it's that we simply no longer find the humor at the expense of innocence funny.
oh absolutely.
tbh I think he's pretty smart. he used his looks to get famous, doesn't like being known for it as a comedian and is now hard pivoting, and getting "cancelled" is just a very good marketing tool to switch audiences
@@sandycultofthesun I was using hubris lightly though alienating the majority of your audience whether intentional or not could be seen as a hubris move by some.
