What's great in this is that Larry comes off as even more brilliant than usual due to the contrast of sitting next to Jay. I love all of the subtle jabs at Leno, too. Can't get enough.
Designandrew everytime I watch seinfeld now And when george says something hilarious or just his mannerisms...I always think of larry....Jason alexander did an amazing job.
I don't think they are supposed to be competing. As a host of a talk show you let the guests talk. You're also forgetting that 80% of what guests say on these shows is rehearsed.
I just thought about a scene in Curb when a man went to talk to a lawyer about changing his will. The lawyer was dressed in an all denim outfit because it was _casual Friday_. The man got angry at the lawyer and stormed out saying he wasn't going to do business with him because he didn't feel he was dressed professionally. I wonder if that was a stab at Jay and denim clothes.
These two comics are at opposite ends of the spectrum and it's not just Larry's funny and Jay's usually not. The dialogue at about 8:00 is the perfect example. Jay pushed his way onto the tonight show basically twice, is an insecure people pleaser, will say yes to basically anything, and comes across as unauthentic. Larry on the other hand isn't afraid to say no (It took 20 years to get Larry to say yes to the tonight show) and threatened to quit Seinfeld multiple times because they wanted to change his script, hates being in the spotlight, could care less what others think of him, and never sold out.
+Miles Finnch Larry didn't "threaten" to quit multiple times he DID QUIT multiple times. Larry literally quit Seinfeld over 10 times. He also would walk off in the middle of his stand up routines, as mentioned in this clip, and he also quit the Broadway play he was doing IN THE MIDDLE of it. Larry gives absolutely no fucks about anything.
Lawrence Gene David, you're the funniest American in my strong opinion man. You have consistently made me laugh my ass off from "Seinfeld", "Curb", and "Clear History". Every episode of "Curb" made me laugh my ass off. Thank you Lawrence Gene David with all my unstable heart buddy!................. Long Live Larry David! .
Y'know what blows my mind. These two came up together. Started out together. Doing the same shitty comedy clubs. Then one of them went on to host the tonight show and the other made one of the biggest TV shows ever. Crazy. Absolutely crazy.
The interview questions were a little strange: "Whose fault was your divorce?" "How do you meet girls?" But Larry David's answers were funny. He's right about "the bachelorette" shows.
GeorgeUK84 Comic noun noun: comic; plural noun: comics 1. a comedian, especially a professional one. "a stand-up comic"synonyms:comedian, comedienne, funny man/woman, humorist, wit
Larry "fucKing" David, ladies and gentlemen. One of a kind. He's funny even when he's not trying to be. My favorite comedian of all time. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Please come back!
This guy was who George Costanza was modeled after. Alexander said his job was to do the most over the top Larry David imitation the world has ever seen.
Leno ~ "Do you resent your own success?" David ~ repeats question while laughing Questions like that might explain why Larry rarely goes onto these talk shows I think a lot of us resent that Leno and Letterman stayed FAR past their welcome
I am so glad that US network tv continue to embrace Curb Your Enthusiasm for exactly what it is, the best damned sitcom of all time since Seinfeld itself.
Rare interview... yeah, it was SO rare that it was seen around the world on American network television.. Tell me, how did you ever locate this little nugget of obscurity?...
i wish we all only had problems like him like what to order in a restaruant and how much to tip the waiter lol. love curb your enthusiasm best show ever. come on season 9!!
Larry kinda fucks up when Leno asks him to describe the show, he says "I'm a single guy....in real life, in the show I'm married! He kinda gave away that he and Cheryl got divorced then had to cover his spoiler! Much respect for Larry, this guy cracks me up, pure genius and seems so genuine!
***** Thanks mate. Exactly. Larry owned him in that very sense you described. No comedian can keep up with his wit, pace and creativity (except Jerry Seinfeld maybe) Larry doesn't need a script. In fact, Curb is a show where the actors/ comedians were supposed to improvise and were not given the script till they were on the set. I was at Richard Lewis's stand up show at Cobb's in SF this past Sunday and he said "Many people ask me if LD is like how he's on Curb Your Enthusiasm in real life. I think he's actually worse than that, he's unbearable (in his comedic tone)..but he's a genius."
Whenever anyone mentions the term "comedy genius", I always immediately think of Larry David.
+specialdefect Be concise. It's "Comedic Genius"
It's like watching a scene from Curb
"You're always wearing denim."
YES! Finally someone points it out.
Yes but WHYYYY! I NEED TO KNOW WHY!
What's great in this is that Larry comes off as even more brilliant than usual due to the contrast of sitting next to Jay. I love all of the subtle jabs at Leno, too. Can't get enough.
Larry hasn't aged a minute since 1990
you never age if you look like you are 65 years old for 30 straight years
Larry is too smart for Jay.
Larry's dog is too smart for Jay
"Doing those things , and then you are supposed to talk to them " just genius from larry
He is so George the way he talks about how Bowles is such a great word.. like Geroge with Manure. "You got the Ma, which is good, and then the newer"
Designandrew everytime I watch seinfeld now And when george says something hilarious or just his mannerisms...I always think of larry....Jason alexander did an amazing job.
You mean George is so Larry.
Or Kenny with "puke" haha.
Americans!....bowels!.....
Larry David is brilliant. Simply put, he's brilliant.
Gotta love LD
the most authentic man in showbiz who became successful
larry david's the most awesome comic on earth. that going back to work after quitting is gold. gold, jerry, gold!
This was an amazing interview, its not often that the guests feels comfortable to enough to actually turn it around and swing at Jay.
Jay can't keep up with LD's wit.
jay deserves a break. larry's a beast.. the synergy was great!!
Jay can't keep up with anybody.
I don't think they are supposed to be competing. As a host of a talk show you let the guests talk. You're also forgetting that 80% of what guests say on these shows is rehearsed.

Ummm no.
Larry David is almost perfect. I love his honesty.
I think Craig Ferguson is the only talk show host who was able to keep up with this man
Larry David should host his own show
I think he'd hate that idea haha
Yeah but he would be awesome at it
Isaac Plascencia When the guest would be entering the stage he'd say: “mmmm I don't think so” ahahaha
Isaac Plascencia he would argue with everybody

+Miles Finnch You're a perceptive dude. You should write for a living IMHO
lmfao. makes me wish LD had his own talk show. would be hysterical.
Long Live Larry David! .

+ProducShuns Wouldn't you like to go back in time and watch the two of them, especially Larry, doing stand-up?
As much as I hate Jay, at least he is not as bad as Jimmy Fallon.
Pretty Pretty Pretty Good lol
Jimmy Fallon is god compared to Jimmy Kimmel
i like colbert but he n meyers just whine about trump for half the show n its gotten really boring
Jay Leno still hits it out of the park. Taste is personal. Lotsa Leno fans
Don’t blame Conan😂
u know what im doin right here, why do i have to say hello hahah
so true everything larry says is gold, its gold larry
one of the funniest things I've ever seen on youtube--Larry David the best
I love Larry
i love this guy....
every one looking back over larry david interviews after jimmy kimmel
Rare in the sense that it is rare too see Larry David give a candid live interview
It was very nice of Larry to go on his show. Very sweet. :)
this is a rare interview from the rare tv show with jay leno
And it's on youtube so it must be a pretty rare video
Mark H. We are part of the select few of 206,989 to have witnessed such covert footage
this is why seinfeld was funny cause some stories on the show actually happened to larry in real life. many funny things can happen to an average joe
"Yea but he HAS to fall in love with her." Ruined the Bachelor in 10 words. So good.
mikecantreed hahaha, he's a genious... that line and "she looks like a person I could never wanna get to know" are the best
one of the best jay-Leno shows of all time.. larry's enthusiasm was amazing in this one
omg, Larry david actually acts the same way he does on curb your enthusiasm
The interview questions were a little strange: "Whose fault was your divorce?" "How do you meet girls?" But Larry David's answers were funny. He's right about "the bachelorette" shows.
He was trying to elevate “small talk” to “medium talk”…
historical tv moment.
Larry David should write an autobiography. It'd be the best book ever written.
I fucking love this guy!
I need him in my life lol 😂😂😂
I love how Leno tries to shut him up at the end when Larry is about to explain the absurdity of "The Bachalorette"
I love how condescending Larry was to Jay
It's not called being "a comic". It's called being a comedian.
GeorgeUK84

Larry correcting Jay is priceless!!
"You know what I'm doin' up here...why do I have to say hello?: Lol!!
i love this guy
Larry David is hilarious
1:35 lol "Now that I'm here...ehhh" This would have been a much more hysterical interview if Larry just talked to himself. Jay is such a wierd DB
What a legend Larry is
Lmao Jay got pissed at Larry and started asking personal questions to make Larry feel shitty.
Larry is one of the funniest people of this time, and at the same time, one of the most annoying. I wish I were more like him.
Leno ~ "Do you resent your own success?"
David ~ repeats question while laughing
Questions like that might explain why Larry rarely goes onto these talk shows
I think a lot of us resent that Leno and Letterman stayed FAR past their welcome
I don't know, I found it on the front page of youtube, how rare can it be?
Larry David legendary ball buster
Oh no, I was tricked into Jay Leno Show!
Brilliant observation
oh man I love L.D.!
wow very #rare video, thank you based larry omg
the new york season was so, so good
Description: This is pretty, pretty...pretty self explanatory.
Dude's so fucking funny... He was so funny and honest he couldn't bring himself to do well in stand up...
The premise of uploading a video to youtube and naming it rare.....
Larry for President
"I'm the opposite of you" - that's right Jay, Larry's funny.
perfect ✌🏼🤣
Lol what a guy - he's absolutely hilarious :D
Larry is awesome!!!
you know that everything is rehearsed, he agreed to talk about it before the show
Larry is awesome
I am so glad that US network tv continue to embrace Curb Your Enthusiasm for exactly what it is, the best damned sitcom of all time since Seinfeld itself.
Jay actually did say "a job writing for...". Larry just didn't hear it. 7:15
I had to think about it!
The man is a character of himself. I could never talk to him with confidence. I'dd be thinking to much about if I'm saying the right thing or not.
LOVE Him!
wow watched Letterman and now the Leno one and both just can't keep up with him
Yea, it's like when he talks about the word bowels. He and Jerry Seinfeld could have gone on for another 10 minutes, but Leno couldn't keep up.
+MrPernell27 Ya but just because you can go on about something doesn't mean you always should
+James Kennedy yea and just because you can make a pointless comment, doesn't mean you always should.
ok cool story bro
Larry is the man!
Great dynamic.
This is the hardest I've seen Jay laugh in a long time.
Larry was very decisive about not being decisive.
" u know what im doing up here, Why do I have to say hello ? " hahaha
i can see clearly george costanza speaking as Larry speaks
Larry has set the bar for comedy.
"You think you look hip" BWAHAHAHAHAHA holy shit that was funny.
great!
He topsy turvied that shit.
Of course it's rare, it's the only one ever for LD on the Tonight Show!
You realize that these shows always, always, always, always have a pre-interview, and Larry's doing a bit by acting offended.
Larry and Kay had a Carson, Ed vibe going on there at the end.
he is a legend
im imagining larry as my uncle or grandpa or something... he'd be that crazy old dude that only i liked
I know what you mean, it's like he has no filter.
Rare interview... yeah, it was SO rare that it was seen around the world on American network television..
Tell me, how did you ever locate this little nugget of obscurity?...
What am i, Willy Loman? I am going to push my goods on them?
😂😂
Now that I'm here ......meh?
'I see what you're saying, I do, but it's irrelevant'
i wish we all only had problems like him like what to order in a restaruant and how much to tip the waiter lol. love curb your enthusiasm best show ever. come on season 9!!
Haha. Can you imagine Larry as a child? Lol
I'd love to see Larry David interviewing Tom Cruise
Jay got owned. Larry David is just epic.
+Dasharathy Ramesh how?
***** Thanks mate. Exactly. Larry owned him in that very sense you described. No comedian can keep up with his wit, pace and creativity (except Jerry Seinfeld maybe) Larry doesn't need a script. I don't understand how someone could prefer Jay Leno over Conan O'Brien.
It rocks! Btw the episode
