    As TMF has said, it's a decent touring bike. The wife and I have done 2 continental tours on our 07 model, each time for a fortnight and about 3000 miles. Very comfy, cruise at 75mph no bother at all. Can get 95% of our luggage under the seat and the rest goes in a small bag strapped to back of passenger backrest. Will go again on it without hesitation as way more comfy than most bikes.

    Two wheels is two wheels in my eyes. You can’t beat the feeling being at one with the machine with all that open sky above you. Motorbike or scooter! More people need to get on two wheels!

    After almost 30K miles on my 2017 model I am in complete agreement with TMF. They're a much underated bike. In a perfect world they would have electronic cruise control and 1 more gallon of gas but even as they are, they're still a great bike. I don't know of many other bikes that have the features found on the Burgman as standard. Get over the ego thing about riding a bike you don't need to shift and just enjoy the ride. 🛵

    Very much enjoy your reviews! One thing you did not mention is that the Burgman 650 has overdrive. Once at highway speed, all you do is put the bike into manual mode. The bike will then be in 5th gear. Then press the manual switch up one more time and you will be in 6th gear. The rpms will drop by about 400. At 70 mph the engine is hardly working. One should remember to only use overdrive at speeds higher than 60 mph. The engine to transmission ratios on this bike are amazing! Pure efficiency!

      cheers Greg, done over 4k on mine, and never picked up on that... will try out at weekend, thank you. Love my Burgervan as a tourer - only limitation is no off roading, however, the older i get, the less that appeals any way! ride safe

    Great to see you have the 650 Burgman on loan, my new one is being delivered by the dealer tomorrow, really looking forward to having a scooter in the garage. I'll look forward to your final thoughts on the scooter. I know the official RRP is very steep but dealers are doing great deals at the moment with very low interest finance or if preferred, low interest on PCP deals, so you can actually get a new 650 Burgman on the road for far less than the RRP so hopefully the Suzuki quoted price won't put too many people off from trying to strike a deal

    The one thing I miss from having my Honda PCX is the ease of going down the supermarket. I have a Versys x300 now which I can strap a bag on the luggage shelf behind the seat, but still more of a palaver than just lifting up the seat. Amersham still looks lovely, I see. Never seems to change, thankfully!

    I ride a 2006 Honda Silverwing 600 scooter. I love the excellent weather protection. Riding in the rain, you are enveloped by the front fairing so rain stays off of you, as long as you're riding. Also with the foot boards up front my boots do not get wet what so ever with the road spray like a motorcycle would. The only complaint that I have is the wee 14 inch wheels. Makes for a rougher ride, and harder to balance at slow speeds. I am considering a Suzuki Bergman.

    TMF, great review as usual on a great bike - and I say that because I have one. In answer to some of the comments about the price, the well known saying is 'you get what you pay for', and what you get with this machine is everything you've mentioned here and more, much more. I've had mine for just over a year now, from new, and I've already clocked up over 8500 miles and I can honestly say I've enjoyed every single mile! Your top 5 are pretty much the same for me too. I test rode an MT09 recently and on the same day an FJR 1300 and I still preferred everything about my Burgman - and like you said, comfort being the main reason. I love that I can fold my mirrors in to filter. I love that I can store my lid under the seat instead of having to carry it around wherever I go. I love that I can charge my phone while on a ride out. I love that I can switch on the heated seats/grips if it gets chilly and what I love the most is the power this not-so-little 650cc bike has. But unlike you I think she's a great looking bike - to compare her to a beluga whale does her an injustice, but we can't all like the same things. It's what makes the world go round, innit! :-) Cheers TMF, always a pleasure watching your vids.

    As you say "As comfortable as a car" but that was the whole idea behind the design of the first Vespa. If I remember correctly, the engineer, Corradino DAscanio hated motorcycles, which he considered dirty and uncomfortable, and designed the Vespa to be more like buying a two wheeled car, without the maintenance, grease, and road dirt.

    You've concisely captured the essence of the Big Burger. It's a superb long distance tourer too - much more graceful than a Beluga has any right to be.
    And you referred to it as a BIKE! I think that was the most telling part of your review. Ride one and see the prejudices evaporate!
    Nice one, TMF 👍

      When I owned a Burgman 650 I did have a large top box fitted because my Burger was an early model which lacked the fitted backrest. My wife said she was very comfortable on the pillion and actually used to fall asleep there - hence the box!
      Most of the time I didn't need the extra storage because the underseat cargo hold was cavernous.
      Hope that helps.

      What I like about the British colloquial term "motorbike" is that it covers traditional manual shifted step over motorcycles AND auto trans step through scooters. Here in the USA, people only call motorcycles, "bikes". And like Big Keith said, we like to hear you all refer to our Burgmans as bikes. Even though you British are just naturally using your terminology, to our American ears, it's like elevating the Burg to the same street cred that motorcycles have--something we'll never hear from the haters on this side of the pond.

    I’ve owned a plethora of ‘maxi scoots’ over the years (Giles nexus 500, Peugeot satelis 500, Aprilia Atlantic sprint 500, Honda silverwing 600 and a Suzuki Burgman 650 which I bought an exdemo model 2008) the only things that have changed since I owned my burgman are you know get heated seats and grips as standard! Plus the newer models are more fuel efficient, it does feel more motorcycle like than a normal maxi scooter due to the way the engine is mounted and is not as willowy as the others. I’ve been through France a Belgium a couple of times on the burgman camping and it was loaded with everything I needed and more, but thanks to its large under seat storage and strapping my tent etc to the back seat I was able to leave the back box empty for my helmet etc when we stopped for lunch etc. So she will tour comfortably, they’re quick and nimble, comfy on a long trip. I part exchanged my Silverwing when buying mine and rode up from leafy Surrey to Bolton to do the swap on cold February morning, the ride back was so different to the ride on the Silverwing. Great vlog reminding me of what I’m missing, I ride a BMW R1200RT at the moment and was looking to get another scoot as my commute to work has changed so I’m looking at the Burgman or hondas ADV 750... stay upright and ride safe!!

    Another brilliant review, I currently own a zzr1400 before that thruxton 1200r before that fz1s all beautiful bikes in incredible condition. Unfortunately I don't get to go on big ride's! Mostly 50mile trips with the occasional 200mile trips maybe once a year. You should be a salesman because I feel like swapping to a big scoot with all the storage. And to be honest I do worry that this power could get me into trouble 😬. I might consider the 650 Bergman with you saying it feels fast enough 👍 I'll keep my eyes open for a peache

      The fabric covers for the legs are called tablier (in France) and are very popular with scooter riders. They keep the lower body warm and dry without the need for specialist clothing or boots. You can still get your feet down at a standstill with them. I love all bikes but nothing is as practical as a big capacity scooter.

    Remember my biker chums you need a class A licence to ride one of these fantastic machines in the UK so this scooter rider v Biker is utter nonsense ! The 3500 mile service which puts some people off is for an oil and filter change and perhaps a CVT filter blow off but that is something easily done yourself.
    If you want to see this thing really fly and beat anything away from the lights, then press the power button ! Man it really goes !
    Had a Super Blackbird for over six years before getting this, should have got one years ago the comfort is absolutely supreme.

    hi - I am thinking of getting a maxi scooter to run between birmingham and coventry (once we’re allowed out), so I have the choice of urban or motorway routes. I don’t fancy doing it every day on my GS and I used to have a scooter, so I am sold on their practicalities and understand the advantages. My question is: Burgman or Yamaha TMax? Did you find a massive difference between them?

    Do you think a 2003 Burgman, even with very low miles, would be too old to buy now? A guy near me is selling one, but I'm hesitating because of the age, and I don't know if parts, filters, etc. are still available for it.

    Had a honda silver wing. Not having a frame between my legs cussed me to drop it several times. Also, the small wheel in the front found every crack in the rode. Over grating and at highway speeds it was kinda scary. Your thoughts?

      Essential G I have 58000 km on a 400 Majesty. No problems at all on sealed road. Live in Aus. Commute 140 km a day all year round. I would be careful on gravel. Would love to own a 650 Burger. My two reservations are gravel as stated and handling on a long winding road. Acceptable but i imagine a sports tourer would be more fun.

    Might be a nice scooter but it's a bit pricey when you consider it's the same price as a new Street Triple R. I know what I'd rather have, I accept they are very different machines. Great vid as usual TMF, keep 'em coming.

    I realise this is a couple of years old, but it is still relevant.
    Preaching to the converted, as I have had a Lardy arse Burgman since 2004. I am now on my second which is now 11 years old. I sold the first at 60,000 miles in 2010 after trouble free ownership and 100% DIY servicing and maintenance. The current 11 year old Burgman has been equally trouble free.
    Both bikes mainly used for 2 up touring in the U.K. and Europe and set up for that purpose with a rear GiviE52, two E52 side panniers and an Autocom system. Very much a Lardy arsed bike with the side cases on and must be almost wider than a Goldwing.
    Faultless ownership experience and my only wish for an upgrade would be cruise control. My only criticism is rear tyre wear and I average 8,000 miles but figure this is down to being fully loaded for much of those miles and the effective ‘engine braking’ as you roll off the throttle (I hardly ever use the rear brakes).
    I was tempted back in 2010 to go down the Goldwing route rather than getting another Burgman - the Burgman won on practicality (more storage than the GW) and cost - although my heart was trying to persuade my head otherwise.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  3 роки тому +1

      Yes they are super practical these aren't they - the GoldWing is a completely different experience though.....

    • @mitchellnix5274
      @mitchellnix5274 6 років тому

      I average 50-52mpg from my Burgman 650. Less than the SV I guess because it is auto transmission and a lot heavier, though it doesn't feel it on the move.

  • @Triangulove

    • @jm_leviathan
      @jm_leviathan 6 років тому +1

      I haven't ridden either but the TMax is generally regarded as the sportsbike of the scooter world, whereas the Burgman is a more traditional maxi scooter with a focus on comfort and practicality.
      Other scoots I'd like to see TMF take on:
      Vespa (any)
      BMW C400X (when released)
      One of the tilting tricycles: Piaggio MP3, Yamaha Tricity, Peugot Metropolis.

      No not better but different. If you want the best handling scooter then the TMAX would win. If you want the best load lugger and tourer then Burgman 650 every day. Both are great bikes though in their own ways.
