Great points, Janelle! This method has allowed us to pay off our mortgage early and retire early (coming Feb 2025), at ages 52 (me) and 58 (hubby)! I LOVE the budget breakdown, it’s always step one for me. 😊
This is the best way to save and be in the head space of where your money is going. I wish I had this when I was in my twenties, my parents never talked about money so I did not know how to save, I started with one binder then added more for different goals. I am glad I found this community to help me stay on track. It is fun! By the way loved watching you on Liz and Less. You do wonderful items for everyone to start to save.
Yes I believe this true I started this year was able to save enough money for Christmas without having to be stress can’t wait to start the new year see what happens next :)
Thank you so much for the helpful information! I started this year and it helped me pay for new tires, some vet bills and I wish I could say a lot more, but this has truly been a learning experience! I wish I had known this so much earlier in my lifetime!

My DH keeps asking me "why can't you just keep the money in our checking & savings accounts"? I tell him "if we look at the big amount in the accounts we will think we can spend it,I like telling our money where it is going, not the other way around". Like you I do fear I will slip back to old ways & I don't want too.

That is the perfect answer for him! Looking at amounts in banks can trick you into thinking you have more to spend than you do!
