    • @DUKE_of_RAMBLE
      @DUKE_of_RAMBLE 9 місяців тому +45

      Yea, as Solar pointed out, I was about to say that they have to legitimately be fierce given they cohabitate with the likes of jaguars and multiple species of caiman!
      Which I figure at some point in history, the multiple piranha species also must've played a part in natural selection, leading to only the biggest otters surviving. _(some species get to be multiple pounds in size, not like the tiny pet store ones we see)_
      Our NA counterparts would no doubt become fish food in those waters lol

      At "Givskud Zoo" in Denmark, I used to work and their conservation program of giant river otters is very cool. Some of the otters from that zoo are being set out in Brazil actually.

    The ant in the start of the video is a Saúva or leaf-cutter ant. They are very common in most of Brazil. You often see perfect little trails in the ground of fields or forests made by them. They are farmers, using the vegetation that they gather to feed the fungus in their colonies, which is their actual food.
    Also, the winged male is called Tanajura and it's butt is a delicacy, often cooked with rice or farofa, a coarse flour made from cassava

    It’s funny that Maya mentions being sacred of the giant river otters. In the Amazon survivorman episode, one of the waorani guides told Les to stay away from the giant river otters, citing that other than a jaguar they may be the most dangerous thing you run into

      Well, the natives call the giant otters "river jaguar", so yeah, they are indeed dangerous. Just to put things into perspective of their game, they usually feed on anacondas and caymans, which is fair to say not many other species are capable of doing.

    My brain:
    "How do you bottle feed Manta Rays?"

    • @chrisgullett4332
      @chrisgullett4332 8 місяців тому

      You would not bottle feed a manta ray, because it is not a mammal. Only mammals breastfeed. Whales, dolphins, otters etc all breastfeed, because they're mammals. Yes that is correct, whales and dolphins do breastfeed. Fish do not breastfeed, marine mammals do. Polar bears and otters are also marine animals. Polar bears and otters are the only two marine mammals that are usually born on land, but spend most of their time in water. Yes a polar bear is a marine mammal, not a land mammal. Polar bears are not like other bears. Other bears are land mammals and eat very little meat, polar bears are marine mammals and eat only meat. You did read that correctly, bears besides polar bears eat very little meat. Bears eat around 5% meat, and 95% fruit and insects. They eat so little meat that they just barely meet the requirements to be classified as omnivores. Bears mostly eat fruit and plants, and they only eat meat to fatten up for hibernation. The average bear eats like 30 thousand berries per day, and will only eat meat during a small period of the year.

    13:25 you're naturally gifted with survival instincts. These are cool but they are dangerous as FUCK. They are unreally strong, aggressive pack hunters. They basically have no natural predators living in the AMAZON, thats how nasty these fellas are. A child once fell into a zoo enclosure of them in my city, Belo Horizonte. A firefighter jumped and saved the kid cause he knew, sadly he did not make it. When I went north to fish I was taught that these fellas is why you can't go in the water. Not piranhas, not gators. Giant otters. We call them Ariranha

    This makes me so happy 😊 I grew up in central Florida with grandparents that had a house next to a river and every holiday i took my little introverted self down to the dock and spent hours manatee watching 😊 And then like twenty years later, i moved to sarasota and my first time out at the beach there, i was floating and one bumped into me 🥰 They’re so amazing and i love theeeeeem yay

    This is super cool!!! When I think of Amazonian animals I immediately think of land animals so it is super cool to see/hear about the aquatic species. I didn’t know there were manatees there either but they are already a new favorite animal of mine cause they are so adorable! Also I totally agree that the giant otters are terrifying but I am still amazed by them.

    Those otters are massive holy! I hope she learned a lot about diff animals! Sometimes it feels like she’s so stuck in the routine and script of her collabs with the alveus animals that the facts end up outdated. Excited for the rest of the videos!!

    Giant river otters are not only chaotic, they could really be a threat to people casually swimming in brazilian rivers. These guys are actual pranksters, and they pull down the feet to make people _drown_ . It's terrifying o-o
