    As a MUA, I would suggest, when using a full coverage foundation, only 1/2 to 3/4 pump for dry skin and a full pump for oily skin. This seems to work well for me as a rule of thumb. The cakeiness you got was from apply way too much product. Maybe try again and mix in an oil (a few drops) and with a little less than a full pump of foundation. I think you will find this will work a lot better for you.

      Thanks, Heidi! I generally do mix in an oil to matte foundations in the winter, but I don't do that during reviews to see what the product itself performs like, unaltered.

    I absolutely LOVE this foundation!!!! I’m 44 yrs old and this stuff looks beautiful on my skin!! I’m on the dryer side but found the perfect skin care routine that has been amazing for my skin. And I have to give my skin at least 10 minutes to drink in all my moisturizing/hydrating products for all of my make up to sit on my skin optimally. That’s a newly discovered trick I’ve recently learned, life changing for how all of my make up looks everyday. And I’ve found that it plays best with Hourglass Mineral Veil and Benefit Porfessional in my t-zone, we know as we age those pores get BIG 😂 So I have to be exfoliated, well hydrated and use the right primer for it to work but if my skin conditions are just right with that combo and my dampened Beautyblender, this ends up looking like my skin but BETTER. Also, I can’t powder it at all otherwise I look dehydrated and wrinkly LOL My new favorite, I hate to use the term “Holy Grail” because it’s played out BUT this is now my HOLY GRAIL!!!! 😂

    I also have dry skin but love this foundation with a the liquid lumi primer. also, it works best if I really moisturize before I use argan oil and reg moisturizer. It gives my face some glow which I prefer. Hope this may help someone.

    I have dry skin and I’ve tried to get this foundation to work for me and I just can’t!! I LOVE the coverage, love the staying power, hate the way it looks on my dry skin it’s such a bummer! I wish they’d make a hydrating formula for dry skin gals and guys ❤️

    I’m so glad I found you. I have very dry skin and I’m over 40. I’m always on the lookout for more realistic makeup reviews without filters. I like a full coverage foundation, but really need the hydration as I am so dry and I don’t like foundations that settle into fine lines right off the bat. I’ll be binge watching your videos all weekend and look forward to watching you from now on. Thank you for such an in-depth and honest review. Very refreshing! Much love ❤️

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому +1

      Thanks, Gillian! If you want to start out narrowing them down, I've got a spreadsheet of all of the results, ranked - geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest - you can scroll the entire spreadsheet to the right to see all of the columns, and there is a search box at the top right. I use the words "not drying" for foundations that don't dry me out but aren't hydrating either, and "hydrating" for ones that are hydrating. There's a column for settling, caking, etc.

    Omg! Thank you ! Finally I find a channel for reviews for us gals Over 30 👌 . Everything u said about this foundation was Spot on! I have combination To Dry skin with a little bit of texture and I also moisturize and prime before and use a foundation brush for smooth even application and its just way too heavy and cakey. After 35 I didnt want anything to accentuate fine lines but we still want some nice coverage and our natural beauty to shine through. Im glad you were honest in your review. Sometimes people are afraid to go against what the masses say / review on social media but Im glad you were honest! You've got a new subscriber 😍👌

    From what I see shelly this foundation is only great on oily skin.I always wanted to try it but heard everyone saying it oxidizes really bad,just this year I tried and its my favorite foundation and have experienced no oxidation, I also have oily skin so i think thats why it works for me

    With this foundation a little bit goes a long way, And you applyed a lot of product on your face, this is my first time watching your channel so I don’t know what steps you do to prep your skin. Thanks for the review.

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому

      Thanks, Carla! I use the same process for every foundation review so that they're comparable as possible. (You can search through the results of all of my reviews on www.geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest - there are over 60 of them now). For skin care, I do no masks/peels/exfoliants the night before or that morning (to avoid aggravating my skin). No less than 30 minutes before the review, I do my morning skin care (which is cleanse, serum, moisturizer, and mineral sunscreen) - give that time to soak in. 5 minutes before I turn the camera on, I prime (the primer varies, which is why I mention what I use in the video). Then I do the review! For each foundation (especially ones that don't work out so well on me), I try it again for 3 days following the review, varying techniques to see if there's a combo that works - different primer, different application amounts/techniques, different moisturizer underneath. If anything changes, I'll note that in the video itself on-screen if I haven't edited it yet, or if it's already posted, I'll pin a comment below and update the info box. In this case, even with less product, I couldn't get much improvement. It's not made for dry skin so I'm not the target audience for this one anyway, but I always try them all because often things targeting normal skin will still work for me. Based on other reviews from dry-skinned people and how it applied on me, I think this one just isn't meant for dry skin - at least not as dry as mine. Really I've only had 1 foundation that I was able to get to work significantly differently than the review - the new Physician's Formula, which oxidized hilariously orange on me. I can get it not to oxidize if I skip sunscreen, but I would never leave the house without sunscreen. So I've kept it to wear when I'm just home filming - because it is a beautiful finish! Other people didn't have the oxidation issue, so it's just another body chemistry variation!

    Thanks for this review. I watched another review of this foundation & that person it wasn't good for folks with dry skin. Also, I just got the Wet n Wild Blossom highlighter & can't wait to try it out. I need to grab the new foundation! I haven't come across it yet. It got the new eyeshadow palettes and the new liquid highlighter and they're both spectacular. WnW is really knocking it out of the park lately. Oh and I got the pro blush brush - forgot to bring it with me (I'm visiting family for Christmas) but it felt soft as all get-out!! I haven't used it on my face yet.

    So I know this video is old but first thing, I’m sooo happy I found your channel!! I’m only 20 but we have very similar skin types and I’m super dry And flaky. I just bought this foundation because I read it can be nice for dry skin. I put it on very sloppy at my sisters house because I was mad that it looked terrible. Then I used Too faced hangover spray and it looked sooo nice. I bought a new concealer too and it looks like cake around my under eye area. I’m going to play around with it and try different moisturizers and primers because I feel like I can make it work lol at least I hope 🙏🏻

      Welcome!!! I've been laughing lately at my self tanning experiments - I look in the mirror and think WOW I AM SO DARK!! and then I match the 3rd lightest foundation shade in a range..... :-D I'm glad my skin is pale. This is my most favorite drugstore foundation right now!!! **Edit to add: I’m 40 and I have mostly oil my skin. This is still my Holy Grail lol. (Now 10 months later). I use a small amount. With the same sponge you use. But I used too much once and it was cakey for sure. Just got to use much much less. It hides my dark spots, lines, and spider veins lol. Try it again PLEASE! I’m begging! Hahahah

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому

      Yep definitely not! I try them all because sometimes, the claims just don't match up with the product (even in a good way sometimes - like a product that doesn't say anything about working on dry skin will work fine). So I try... no luck on this one!

      Oh hey. Coconut oil is non-comedegenic. Please be careful when your put it on your face. For really dry skin I've tried First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream and had some success.

    • @k.hebert
      @k.hebert 6 років тому

      Coconut oil really isn't great for your face! It clogs pores! I was told it is a big No-No to use on the face, but nice for a body moisturizer for dry skin! 🙂
      Rosehip Seed Oil works AMAZING for my dry skin, though! And it helps with keep acne at bay! It's my little miracle oil! I use it every single day, several times a day! I would highly suggest you try that one out!

    • @jenm9099
      @jenm9099 5 років тому +1

      Fractionated coconut oil is the ONLY coconut oil to be used on the face. It's been treated to break down the amino chains, and never solidifies, thus will not clog pores. (Esty here)

    I have tried their stick foundation in 110. It just doesn't work for me. The coverage was terrible. The new one looked so dry. Might work for you with a drop of oil, I used it on my brush and my MUFE Stick Foundation works so much better....went on so much prettier...checked out your spreadsheet of foundations, thank you for making it. It will be so helpful. Love the rest of your look today.

    • @goow

      Thanks, Linda! I tend to put oil in my foundations a lot in the winter, though I don't do it in reviews because I want to see the product on its own. LOL thanks, Ivy! At least I have morphed into feeling like I need blush. For 20 years or so I refused to touch the stuff. I get super red-faced when I work out and back when I was a kid, I was super embarrassed about it. I think that turned into refusing to wear blush because I didn't want to have red cheeks. Now I look dead without it, but still hesitate to go too flushed. I can also never get the angle right on the right side of my face!! :-D

    Hi Shelly! Think I'll skip this one! I also tried the Revlon 3X and I still prefer my Rimmel Lasting Finish. I've been trying a few new Primers from some samples that I've gotten......although Sephora has really dropped the ball with samples on my last 3 orders by not giving me 4 of the samples that I was expecting, but anyway my fav primer sample so far was a Peter Thomas Roth mattifying one, going to use it again tomorrow. Athough it says all skin types I was worried that the mattifying meant drying but it felt great especially early on, I mean REALLY great actually, but in this cold winter weather my skin always starts to feel a little itchy/taut by the end of the day no matter what :o(

      Ugh I had ordered to get that 500 point Kat Von D kit they recently had and the ended up out of stock on my entire order and canceled it! And I haven't gotten the proper samples or promo code items in a couple months now. It really frustrates me after I spent a bunch of money at the end of the year here to get Rouge again. I was just going through all of my shopping links tonight and something is up with the Rimmel! Either they're phasing it out to bring out new packaging or it's going away completely, because it's getting harder to find online!

    Yikes don't build coverage with a buffing brush. It would cake up any fast setting foundation.

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому

      I really thought I was seeing things with the redness on my chin but when I edited - nope can totally see it! So confusing. This would have been an F if it didn't look so decent from a distance. When I would walk past a mirror, I would think, that looks OK, even pretty good - but up close just ugh. Drying and uncomfortable sunk the ship.

    I am 45, dry, fine lines etc and I wear tis daily. You used about 4x to much. The swipe and blend with a beauty blender is the best application method. You would have been better with 120 (my shade) in my opinion. And I found this foundation is better with zero primer other than daily moisturizer.

      @@goow I have roseca and the first 2 times it was awful but coverage was amazing. So I kept trying and figured out the tricks to get the coverage on my skin (which is similar to yours) it's worth a try.
      Your skin looks great with most foundation so you probably dont need the coverage as much as I do. Do you think the Revolution would be as full coverage?

  • @ginnyburley9552
    @ginnyburley9552 7 років тому +6

    I guess I don’t like a full coverage look. This foundation looked almost mask like. Unlike you, I like a dewy look on my older dry skin. Within an hour or two, everything looks matte on me anyway. I don’t think you look crazy with the blush. I have deeper skin than you, but I’ve always loved a really healthy blush look. Your makeup look was great, despite the troublesome foundation.

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому

      Thanks, Ginny! Yeah if I go full coverage, I need there to still be dimension to the skin - just enough sheen/reflectiveness where the highlights still show highlights and the shadows still show shadows, even before contour/blush/highlight/etc. This one is just one flat blanket. Mask-like is exactly right. Ahhh blush... I still don't feel like I've found the perfect application placement for my face structure, and maybe that's why I never like a heavy handed blush on me. The right side of my face (your left) never has the right angle to it. It drives me nuts! :-D

      That's fantastic, my favorite thing about this time of year is seeing everyone I don't get to see the rest of the year. A whole week too! You deserve it! I think it was on Facebook maybe I saw your post about the study you're doing. My friend you have my total respect and empathy. I did a huge project in college about Anita Hill, the Wm Kennedy Smith trial and other outrages that were happening at the time and it was brutal on my psyche. I'm very happy you get to be with family and recharge! I'm not sure if we are doing what's up in makeup next week or the week after, I need to confirm with Jen but other than my reports for wuim I'm free as a bird until day after my bday. The 26th. I almost can't believe all this free time is real!! I'm amazed at this luxury 😊

      It's so nice to just take a break!! I've got videos pre-filmed (well I still have to film a foundation for next Friday and the one after) so I'll still be on UA-cam, but really hanging out in the comments is part of my relaxation every day! :-D Yeah I wrapped up that project today and it's really hard to not let it put me in a funk! But I haven't done anything like it in a while (I've been sticking to things for the Wildlife Center, which in its own way is emotionally taxing but not the way this is... some things in wildlife rescue and rehab are sad, but it's all generally hopeful. There aren't too many feel-good moments when you're researching sexual assault and harassment). But it's done and it's out there and now I just cross my fingers and hope it wins something! And if not, I hope at least it makes people think a bit.

    That stuff looked like you were spreading clay on your face. I was pretty sure this was not one for my dry, mature skin. I'm a always surprised when dry skinned folks use a brush of any kind to wash their faces or apply their foundation. On me it just tends to exfoliate the face and make it look drier and less smooth. Another in depth review. Thanks.

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому +1

      Thanks, Karen! I exfoliate every night so in most cases, I don't have trouble using a foundation brush the next morning. But in the dead of winter, I'll be eating my words when I'm a flaky mess no matter what I do....

      I've never understood why at the light end of the shade range, so many foundations have one really light shade and then jump 3 shades darker to the next, as if there are no variations in fair skin. So frustrating!

    Sorry - my jaw dropped when you said you have a tracking spreadsheet so I'll be back, lol! You look really pretty but I'll pass on this one. I kind of hate that the winter releases are all matte - I would think it would be a spring/summer trend. Quick edit; I am curious about the Huda faux filter but the fragrance.... And also Frankie Rose - because I noticed the first shade is "fair with neutral yellow" and second is actually "fair with warm pink" and I never see warm pink!

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому

      LOL I live for spreadsheets!! The "geek" in my name is no accident :-D And what the heck is warm pink?! It's like how MAC is opposite. Those things scare me lol! I swatched/smelled the Huda and didn't buy it... I have a feeling I won't.

    • @jenns.4187
      @jenns.4187 7 років тому

      So I have the MUFE Ultra HD in R210 and hate it because it's a cool/blue tone pink. Since I'm a true winter tone - and can look gray (stunning, I tell you!!), cool tone pink looks terrible. But if I go for a warm-tone pink (I "think" R220) it actually works. Just like with yellow foundations, I actually need a cool tone yellow and not a golden yellow; golden yellow turns red or orange (due to the red/purple pigmentation in my face). This is where my geekiness comes in which is why I love your reviews 😀

    This is what most foundations look like on my skin now that I have started wearing makeup again. It is time to try another foundation but I have no idea what to try. I'm disabled and can't drive, so whatever I get I use until its gone because it is far to much hassle to get someone to drive me to return the product. People say such contradictory things about aging skin and makeup. Don't use anything luminous because it will exaggerate the wrinkles but then don't use full matte because most mature skin is already so dry. O.o So confusing for this ol' lady lol

    • @goow
      @goow  7 років тому +2

      Hey Tamra! Oy there are so many "rules" and half of the time, they don't work for me! In terms of foundation types, I try a lot of matte because that's a look I prefer, but most don't work well on me because they emphasize lines/texture or dry out my already dry skin. But I still try! lol. The super-dewy ones also seem to accentuate lines. My favorite is a nice natural satin - so not so dewy that it shines but enough that light naturally reflects off the high points. I don't like returning things in person (because I feel bad doing it) so I do most of my shopping online so I can return it online. I'll go to Sephora and swatch a bunch of stuff and make notes so I can order online :)

    • @sweetox_9690
      @sweetox_9690 7 років тому +1

      Tamra What is your skin type? And what finish do you prefer? That will help a lot in narrowing down a decent foundation that you enjoy. Personally, I say to hell what "they" say, and just do what makes YOU look and feel good. "They" told me Estee Lauder Double Wear wasn't for me and would look bad on my dry aging skin. Well, it turns out it's one of my all time favourite foundations. I also stopped wearing makeup for a few years and didn't like like the results at all when I started up again. It took many ugly ones before I found any pretties. Also, are you looking at a drugstore or high end option? If you tell me your skin type and finish preference I can try and recommend some for you, as I have tried a ridiculous amount of foundations the past few years!

    • @tamrau.1686
      @tamrau.1686 7 років тому

      Oh wow Ivy thanks! Drugstore and my skin is technically combo but mostly on the dry side. The only spot that gets oily is my nose. my perfect foundation would be a natural looking full coverage. Something thats gonna cover these horrible panda eyes and age spots 😂

    Nope, too flat, too finicky to apply, and not friendly to dry or textured skin. I'm surprised EmilyNoel gave this a great review & I usually agree with her. I have a feeling this is one of those new foundations that is made to look good on camera but doesn't work for day to day use.

    I came
    For a review .. not
    To hear talking for the first 8 mins.. I’d rather when it goes straight into the application. Also why do you fast forward through application.? That’s what we want to see.. how it applies and how it blends?
    That shade is too light as well and this foundation a little
    Goes a long way! It looks bad and sinking in because you have so much on! I have dry skin and my skin prep
    Before is the most important part.. you really have to hydrate .. I do my skincare and oils before hand and I get a nice beautiful finish .. with some
    Dewiness to my skin!
    You need a brush .. not the Clarisonic .. the brush on that isn’t what’s gonna work! Needs to be more dense!
