He kinda neglected to mention that phones absolutely have been listening and giving ads based on what you hear. They're just not doing it right now (hopefully).
It was a few years ago when people started reporting those freaky "coincidences". It was some kind of trial run so not everyone experienced it, and it only lasted for a few months.
If a company, or alphabet agency wants to listen to you, they will.

It is like asking a robber if he stole anything 🤣🤣.
With Google and Apple I've always that feel that they spy more than others...
Still the most important thing is to keep data safe: Meta for example is well known for losing users important data (1 years ago there were Usernames with their phone numbers all over Telegram... And still the governmnent was like "we didn't see anything. It all seems normal!". For God sake, don't they understand that they makes us vulnerables to cyberattacks?!?)...
Also the fact that it listens only to S is not completely correct. Google in fact lets you look into his data and it sometimes listens to a lot more... The same does Siri, so please, go to privacy and enable auto deleting data after 1 month. It is safer for you not having all your data on their server when you don't need that.

It is mentioned that leaving apps on in the background is okay in terms of not really effecting battery life that much. But how about effecting RAM? Would leaving apps open in the background eventually make the phone less responsive as those apps might be eating up RAM?

Couple comments on topics I've had experience with:
I fly private planes, and my phone gets confused as all get out and the battery plummets very quickly if I don't put it on airplane mode before going up in the air. Meanwhile, the plane could care less. Commercial planes obviously may vary, but I recon you're much better off just using the in-flight wi-fi.
Planned obsolescence is absolutely a real thing. I went to college for engineering and planned obsolescence was something they taught all engineers in all disciplines the very first semester. They called it something nicer to try to convince everyone it was a good idea, but it was very obvious what it was.

Husband and I have had this same thing happen to us repeatedly. Nothing said verbally. Nothing typed. Phone in hand or in pocket but screen locked. Suddenly we get ads for their very product.
One time in particular, I was working in my kitchen and my phone was in the next room. I grumbled something to myself and the next time I picked up my phone I had ads all over for a product that was essentially a solution to my grumblings. 🤔

    • @HyperWolf
      @HyperWolf Рік тому +3

For this thing specifically, I read an article that says your ads will sometimes be based on searches done by people who are in your surroundings. So someone else also stood in that aisle, decided to Google the coffee, now you get ads.
Apparently this is done because there’s an assumption that people share interests with those in their immediate surroundings.
It makes sense to me since my brother bought a power washer while he was visiting us once. We didn’t talk about it at all until I mentioned I kept getting weird power washer ads and didn’t know why. That’s when he mentioned he bought one off Amazon while sitting in our living room.

@@HyperWolf Yes, this. The proximity of your phone to other phones can say a lot about the relationship between the owners of the phones. If there are several phones that spend a lot of time at one address, especially at night, chances are they're a family or at least are close. If someone there does a lot of searching about something, others in the vicinity can be fed ads about it because chances are they're going to like the same or similar thing.

Never, ever connect to unsecured public Wi-Fi unless you absolutely have to, and definitely never log into anything sensitive like a bank account or other personally identifying account/application. It takes no effort at all for someone with a laptop to set their Network Interface Card (NIC) to "promiscuous mode" along with using some software like a packet tracer and they'll be able to view all the information moving across that network, and tell whether it's encrypted or not. Another tip is to make sure your NFC is turned off except for the moment when you're using it (tap-to-pay feature on your phone), as someone can easily walk by you and make a transaction without you knowing. Stay safe out there!

Excellent video. With regard to extending the battery life of your phone, it is still advisable to keep between 20-80% where possible. This exponentially increases the lifespan of the battery. Leaving at 0% or 100% for extended periods of time has the opposite effect, even allowing for the buffer that is hidden in phones and EVs 😎

Afak the 0-100% charge state your phone shows is actually 20-80% of your battery. For lithium batteries at least.

I’m calling BS on it not listening to me. Too many times has a very specific word been “said only” and then a day later both Facebook and Amazon are giving me ads of that very thing. Way too often to be just a coincidence. Unless you have a better explanation of why that’s constantly happening

Wait, he said Apple... Store Tech... Expert...
The same "Experts" at an "Apple Store", that lie to you that your iPhone can not be rapaired, or the repair would cost $2000, so you should buy a new one, and then you bring it to Louis Rossmann, and he repairs it for like $15... Well I definately would not believe a single word he says...

and that's folks why i don't own a smart phone. i only own a cell phone for emergencies, no need for anything more than that. i don't take selfies where ever i go and i don't feel the need to take pictures of my food. since i don't do social media i also don't need to check my phone constantly to see if anyone liked my posts. who needs apps??? it's a very freeing and peaceful life, you should try it sometimes :-).

immediately started off wrong -- it's been demonstrated time and time again that you can express interest in something in a conversation and within minutes you will start to see ads related to it. different phones do different things, but it is not just "no, it's only listening for the trigger sounds like hey siri"

    • @jbnelson

Patently untrue. A green/orange privacy indicator appears any time the microphones/camera are active on an iPhone. (With the exception of the Always On Processor listening for HS)

    • @damirahman

@@jbnelson which is exactly why i said "different phones do different things" because phone OS devs have started adding privacy features for it. even then, i tested it again *just now* on my iphone by talking about a very specific brand of food (that i have never expressed interest in before), with no orange indicator for mic usage, and got an ad for it an hour later on instagram. whether that's iOS or instagram listening, doesn't really matter -- i don't think there's any metadata- / flocking- / inference-based explanation for that level of accuracy
obviously that's an anecdote, but it's not like there's meaningful data publicly released for this type of thing. but it's something that everyone has had happen to them, and for it to be completely unmentioned in this video by some ex-apple worker who makes a point to say "apple's privacy policy is by far the safest and the clearest," it's hard to not be suspicious of that

Man it's going to be great when they finally just admit that our phones have totally been listening to us this entire time. The lie is just falling apart. Yeah okay, it's just listening for "one specific acoustic model" but also has the capability of instantaneously translating speech to text, interesting. "It doesn't do it unless you ask it to!" lol
