This extract comes from a 2-part series in which Stargate deconstruct one of Rihanna’s biggest hit singles. Written in collaboration with Sia and Benny Blanco, the song marked a decisive moment in the singer’s career and opened her up to a brand new sound.

So it took the combined ingenuity of three musicians to come up with this drum beat? Interesting.
it was more so deciding on the taste. when you collab you can refine to make something more grounded, it’s not about the beat itself.

I don't know if you program drum beats, I'd you're a trained musician or not, but there are TONS of tiny things going on to make the drums sound like they sound. With this kind of music, for a trained musicoan, the challenge is finding something catch and simple, preferably 4 bars or less, and finding a way to keep it interesting. Very challenging indeed. Not to mention the time it takes to master the digital real, the engineering etc

Really don't want to be a hater but I think Rihanna's vocals made this song.... not this generic ass beat
Nah you're not being a hater, the beat is so so bland, dunno how it took 3 producers to make the beat. But I guess in the context of the song, it means the vocal and instruments can do a lot of interesting things

But I love « Blue - One Love » album , production sound like super production and everything amazing song perfect pop : the sound of an era 2000
And that track with Drake & Rihanna was futuristic at the time , extra dope too
