I absolutely adore Pekka. He joins Nightwish on stage occasionally if he's around when they play in Finland. He's fantastic and a true showman, and hilarious. His violin actually adds a lot, check out this version of I Want My Tears Back: ua-cam.com/video/GCm2WTrAfCk/v-deo.html

Fun fact: If you listen to the studio versions of this and The Islander, the latter leads into this. With the wind in The Islander fading out after the song and calming into the wild sound in this. It's so cool. You should listen to them together.

@@TankTheTech *You really should, the live versions are most times stripped down. In the studio version of "The Islander" is a violin featured, which is not the case in the live versions. In the studio version of "Last of the Wilds" you will hear not only the violin again but also a Finnish instrument called Electric Kantele. Greetings & Stay safe.*

Agreed, so glad i picked up all of the studio releases. Dark Passion Play is just so good but all of the studio albums have some amazing deep tracks. "Slow, Love, Slow" on Imaginaerum is a departure from the typical NW sound, yet so good.

This song always makes me smile, Troy is a master.
Another song you may like is "Elvenjig/Elvenpath" live in Colombia. It combines an improvised instrumental folk bit (Elvenjig) and a song from the first Nightwish album (Elvenpath); which speaks about all of those old famous fantassy works and a little bit of Finnish mythology.
Great to have you doing more Nightwish, man.

"Last of the Wilds" actually has a vocal version too. It was released in the Platinum Edition of "Dark Passion Play" album. It's called "Erämaan viimeinen" and has a Finnish guest singer Jonsu in it.

And there is even a nice fan made video with English subtitles and nature shots in youtube. BTW It was released as a single and because of the language they needed a Finnish singer to do it, and Jonsu was obvious choice as they were going to go Nordic tour with Jonsu's band Indica.

It has been taken down in some platforms. Atleast UA-cam still has versions to listen. Not everyone has right Album version :(

This was the first metal song I ever heard. I had only listened to what was currently popular in the US, and my dads classic 60s/70s CDs. Then a friend linked me Last of The Wilds, and I started on my nightwish journey, and the door opened to the rest of the metal world. Even though I dont constantly listen to Nightwish anymore, this song always has and always will mean a lot to me. Gets me emotional every time

@@TankTheTech hey Tank, so I just finished viewing all your NW reactions which I enjoyed very much, since thru out your reactions you seem to indicate that NW may be your all time fav ? I wanted to encourage you to do some songs that you have yet to react to or experience ? I first heard NW about 20yrs ago and I had found them interesting ,to be honest I was more so with the compositions than the vocals so I was not an avid listener but then the same pal who turned me on to them told me about this tall beautiful amazing singer of a band called After Forever and when I heard Floor's cover of Alone by Heart I was slayed, I have seen live and heard just a bout every female rock/metal & contemporary singer but I had never heard someone like Floor that I had such an emotional response to ,she I believe is a singular & incomparable talent who I would say if she was an American or a Brit would be a mega star worldwide so I would also like to encourage you to go into her prior bands After Forever & ReVamp and her recent covers to better understand the fervor her fans have for her, cheers & best wishes.

Had never understood why people watch reactions videos. Everything changed after your Nightwish series. It's so great to share with someone the same emotions I feel when I watch theirs live records. Thanks a lot!
I was too young to accept Anette as a new vocalist, to accept the fact that life changes and I should be open for that. I was not so young when Floor came but still wasn't ready to let new Nightwish in my life. Finally I see all of them brought something different, something new, something great. Now even listening old songs with three different singers I can't say that Tarja, Anette or Floor is better. They are obviously different but also great in their own way! It so doesn't make any sense to argue who is better (anyway everyone knows Marko is the best :))

Well, I could pop wheelies and spin to the music - if the crips corral at the venue had enough space.
Heck, if anything could get me on my feet it would be Nightwish, but as I can only transfer a few yards on crutches, that might be something I'd regret later.
Who am I kidding - it would be worth it, whatever physical price I'd have to pay later!
Wembley is utter torture, with the only space for wheelies a sort of concrete trough, with just enough space to smash your knees on the side. They've a cheek charging for it at all.
I'd want my tears back later though!

The guy with the bald head, goatee beard and huge smile near the end, is one of the tour crew. I think he might be the stage manager. There's a clip somehwere of him flat out asleep, on the tour bus, and the band are drawing on his face with a black marker. I think alcohol may well have been involved! 😀The fact that he so obviously loves what he is hearing, after hearing it countless times before, just shows how powerful and engaging Nightwish's performances are. I could celebrate it at any time. Not pure but influences. That's why I love "I want my tears back" so much from Nightwish, which you've already seen and heard. 🤘

For what is is worth, Tank, I also teared up watching this. I love this song. I love this video. I love watching you get emotional watching this video. I get emotional because concerts are my happy place and I haven't been able to attend a concert in over a year and half because of the pandemic. Watching all these people just happy, feeling the music and in their element brought me to tears. I am emotional because after a year and half, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Concerts are coming back.
Side note, this song also makes me emotional because my amazing niece and nephew love this Nightwish song too and it reminds me of them and I can't wait to see them again and give them a big hug.
Great video, look forward to the next one!

But before I started watching I already knew because I know you - you will love it the way I love it! I am not surprised at all - this track is impossible not to love, this band is impossible not to love - they give us joy, give us emotions, give us a smile on our face! That's what music is about, that's it!

Troy is absolutely sensational on this one. One of my favourite Nightwish songs! I don't know if you've heard the new single from Troy and Tuomas's other band, Auri, with Johanna Kurkela? It's called Pearl Diving and is an absolutely stunning piece if you want to check it out! Tuomas is a wizard on the keys as usual, and you'll hear Troy doing backing vocals, bouzouki, low whistle and electric guitar in the song! :)

Oh man.... I listened to this track many times before, but seeing you getting into it, and also watching the cheering crowds in the clip made me tear up myself.
Nothing superfast, nothing supertechnical in it, this is just the raw power of music and its arrangement. And what it does to people (including myself) is just plain awesome!

Tank that was absolutely brilliant, and yes I teared up to, lol. Your Dad has great taste in music. This band is incredible and all member's are masters of their craft. There is another song that is awesome with that touch of folk that you should check out. Elvenjig and Elvenpath live at Bogota is amazing with more instrumentals. Love your work from Australia. 👍

At the end of the studio version there's an instrument called kantele playing alone. It is the national instrument of Finland and is quite rare in other parts of the world. It is a big part of finnish folk music and is often mentioned in Finnish folklore.

This song is so energetic! Nightwish are so freaking good at this music thing. Man, I feel with you. Can't recall many other bands that manage to raise my emotions like that. Maybe U.F.O.'s "Love to Love" from the Strangers in the Night live album, Within Temptation with their rarely played ballad "Bittersweet", or Springsteen's "The River" from his 1975-85/95 live compendium. But Nightwish does it with so many songs of theirs. Incredible. Thx for sharing.

    This f-ing song just shreds!!
I really feel ya about the way this song just "calls you home".
I've been waiting for you to hear this, knowing how much you love the 'folk' signature and Troy's amazing virtuosity. Those pipes just kill me.
When I hear bagpipes they touch me in such a visceral way... but when they're used to play AMAZING GRACE....I turn into a sobbing puddle of goo...
When they're used in memoriam...I just can't deal.
    But thanks for this!
I play this and EVERGREY - Touch of Blessing more than anything else in my library....
And NW's tribute to Pink Floyd - High Hopes..
Bittersweet to begin with, but with Marco's departure.... double the bitter part.

So thrilled to see you back with Nightwish, have missed it so much. This song really shows Tuomas amazing songwriting skills. Wisited a month ago Kitee where Nightwish is from. There is a new great Nightwish museum and there you can play Jukkas drumset from the last tour he was with Nightwish...I did that. You should also check out Moondance by Nightwish, more a Russian style of folk song. Thanks, hope you do Nightwish a little more often :)

    Great reaction as always!
I always kind of like to throw this around when it comes to Nightwish and this style of music: there’s an artist I enjoy, LEAH, who’s music is very much like this. Very folky, Celtic type metal. She’s an independent artist and she brings in musicians from other bands to help create her music, one of these includes Troy! I can’t remember every artist who has been involved, but I always remember Troy lol.
I know he was most involved in the albums “The Quest” and “Ancient Winter”.

Happy to see the Nightwish reactions are back! This song always gets me as well, oh Nightwish and their instrumental magic haha. I personally always thought this song live it's just a giant loop played over and over. If you listen to the studio version, yea it is the same but the guitars are so much better with solos! Back in the day Emppu used to do the crazy solos and now he's just chillin' while Troy does them, it's the evolution of a great band and I love it!

THIS! This instrumental is amazing and it always puts me in a happy mood. It is one of my road trip songs...THE ONE in which I'll crank up while driving down a road (without stoplights or stop signs) windows down, and sunroof open.
A couple of notes about the video, etc:
The older gentleman identified himself in the comment section of this video on UA-cam. Many commenters had their hats off to him! I was at the Salt Lake City show (which was mentioned on the beginning scroll) and remember seeing him there. Coincidentally, the Salt Lake City show was Annette's last show with the band. Floor made her debut two days later in Seattle. I saw that one, also.
The violin/fiddle player is also seen in the video for "I Want My Tears Back" that was filmed in Tampere, I think.
"Last Of The Wilds" is also on the Wacken DVD...Floor did a wardrobe change during the song.
As evidenced during the video, there are several different sized venues in which Nightwish performed. The smaller ones are outside of Europe. In the USA you can get a much more intimate feel of the show and it is so gratifying, plus the opportunities to take part in a meet & greet. I met them in Tampa/St. Pete (with Floor). I have made it a point to go see them in Europe when I get the chance.
Tank, you GOTTA go see them when they tour again. You being where you are, Atlanta would probably be the closest place.
PS That wide-eyed guy....I think he looks like Elijah Wood (the actor). After all, that clip was from the Los Angeles show LOL
