Tempoyak is fermented durian. The taste will always depends on the durian's flavour during fermentation. It can be sweet sour. Best when you made into sambal. Just mash some chillies with tempoyak. Most famous dish made is of course gulai tempoyak and the best fish to match is Patin fish. It gives some sweetness plus sourness to the dish.

I eat fresh durian.. but i dont eat tempoyak... while ikan patin masak tmpoyak is so delicious for me...😅
I used to dislike tempoyak too..but the one that my MIL made is super good..turn out she made the tempoyak with the still fresh durian..I mean some people made it with the durian that has turn a little bit sour but she made with a new fresh one..a bit of salt and there with cili padi..pegh!
As a Malaysian. I never eat tempoyak 🤣. I don’t know why I’m scared to eat tempoyak even though I like Durian.
Eat actual tempoyak of course it's not tasted good..but tempoyak ,excellent when it's mixed with budu and certain gulai.. and ulam

I only eat patin tempoyak at temerloh pahang only... because else where the patin tempoyak is fishy dan rasa lumpur.... because their use patin kolam.. not patin sangkar or patin liar as in temerloh pahang...

Must try their Salted Steam Chicken, Salted Egg Chicken, and most famous signature is the Smelly Tofu. althkugh Smelly but is herbal marinade not spoiled, very crunchy outside, juicy inside. Only local will love this, long queue too😍😍

There's a huge difference in taste of the regular patin and patin from pahang (patin sangkar or sungai). You need to try the patin pahang but becareful of the price especially patin sungai or patin buah.
There are three types of people
- can eat durian but can't eat tempoyak
- can eat tempoyak but can't eat durian
- can eat both
You guys can do anything but please don't waste food okay
