Hey Jim, you did a good job on the ball valves. Just a suggestion, I might have put a compression fitting after the ball valves in case you wanted to move some of the piping. That plug was genius!! Thanks much for sharing.
I dont know of it was suggested, but build a box around that outlet, insulate it and it would protect it from getting stepped on or the dog digging aroud it. Just a thought, I really enjoy you guys and your progress!
It's very entertaining watching your videos. This was #1 for me today out of 3 so far. I wanted to apologize for my comment awhile back about the plant Jess was watering. Please forgive it. I'm old and crusty and a little bit rusty. Many blessings.
Great job, brilliant plug, only suggestion would have been burying the pipes approximately 6-12 inches underground. If not, add another valve (with a tee) at the end so that the pipes can be drained before next freeze season. Since the pipes are above ground, If possible angle the pipes downward slightly to drain the water completely out.
You're right. Just bury the pipes a little bit A friend I know uses gravity water tank 10k gallon. For shut off 500 feet from tank the valve is underneath or inside a hollow tree log round w/straw inside
It amazed me how your love and patience has already amended the antisocial and crazy behavior of you adopted dog. I honestly thought she wasnt going to be able to be rehabilitated and relax and play without frenzy
Thats a great repair. Maybe put a raised bed of small plants like beans or something seasonal to keep dogs from digging there and reason to keep it weeded and rodents out of there and insulated a bit in cold weather. ?? Win win win.
Now sometimes I watch Trekkers hiking around in ancient First Nation areas and there are structures that are squared with the stones that they found and the mud they use as mortar. That's thousands of years old and it's still there. That takes strength and cooperation which you both have and I really admire your commitment. you have great talent and intelligence doing this.
I know Jess isn’t all that comfortable talking on camera but talk or no talk she’s amazing and talented. Both of you are a great team and very creative
Good morning hope everybody's having a great day out there and I'll stay out of the animals have a great day and just have fun and just enjoy your life hey Jess how you doing hope everything is okay we miss you guys but keep up the good work we're proud of you both of you keep keep up the good work
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, maybe build a wooden chest around your water pipe by the water tanks so you can isolate them and protect them.
The new water line looks great. You should bury as much of that line as possible to protect it and a valve cover over the new ball valves and ball valve on the line going off to wherever. I’m sure you’re doing this. You know more than anyone how hash the sun is
💗🙏🏼💗 Howdy J & J Thank you both for allowing us into your lives. I appreciate your keeping us informed of the homestead build progress. Much love to you both, crew , euvia and your other critters. 🙏🏼💗🙏🏼 Stay Blessed 🍃 We Love You.
Good Idea on plugging the tanks..I'm going to remember that one!! We use pex after the ball valve on ours and it has been great since pex expands instead of popping.
Pole barns are fast to build, and very strong. I like em 👍👍 I like the roofing tin all away around on the roof, and all down the sides. top to bottom. That the strongest of all siding. better than cement. For insulation is> to cob the inside walls, WOULD DO NICELY 👍👍 You would have to use some chicken wire to hold the cob in about 4 to 6" thick should work nice
Watching you stand next to your poly tanks , made me wonder what temp is the water in them , if they make good thermal battery banks , if you made a shed with the tanks being a wall on the sunny half in the sun , if it could keep a room warm ?
Watching this pole barn project got my head going. I’m five feet up on 12’ sand bag ? Wall ? At this point. Hope to roof it some day as a “ shed” or better. Pole barn in theory sounds like a simpler build
I would cover that pvc pipe as it isn't uv tolerant You could even use bags and cob and then put a metal removable roof on it. Also you could add some heat tape for cold weather
Your repair looks awsome. How much is in the cistern? Is it enough to compensate for what you lost? Keep being an inspiring mutually supportive team! Rock on!
need to wrap them pipes and valves good they will freeze and break just as easy as the llitt;e pipe I have had a 2 inch valve break. So glad that you guys went with a different building method It should go up faster maybe you can have it dried in , in a few months time
I've been living off the grid all day, and you are doing it wrong, lol I'm like an armchair expert. I have to deal with leaks from time to time as well, and it's always a sinking feeling with a leak, I've had to climb into one of my tanks before and I almost didn't get back out, lol. Thanks for sharing, and as always, keep building 👍
Great video. Please brace the new pipes so that your dog doesn't break the connections standing on it. Also, I neither saw nor heard any mention of a use of a level for getting the poles straight. What did you do to make sure of that? Curious. Thanks.
How thick are your cob layers? And have you tried dry grass instead of staw? We're at the point we HAVE to get some bags covered. Just amending with sand we still have a lot of cracking. I'm hoping we can make use of some of the 8 acres of grass we have.
I would worry some seeds would get in with the mix and grow inside the wall. Straw is inert, no longer alive. One small seed can split a boulder over time. Just my two cents worth.
doing some mud thatching and fixing water lines and putting up post. the dog is trying to help. how far are ya'll from tombstone or wilcox or benson. i live in wilcox and safford and tucson. and lived in lorsburg new mexico. be bless and safe do not get to hot or cold.keep up the good work. SAVANNAH TN.
I would use a copper or brass ball valve. I live the desert also. Those plastic ball valve won’t last long especially out in the elements and high temps. Plus if it freezes, IT WILL CRACK and you will lose lots of water.
Try feeding ur chickens beans and boiled sopa noodles it doesn’t take a lot for them to get full and they say they will lay more eggs I heard about this last winter from a farmer here on utube I ❤ur videos
Jim i sock my post in a barrel four inches above the top of the ground. Even if they are Presher treated post. mine have been in the ground for20 years now and have not routed at all.
PVC cement seals pipes instantly...at least in a couple of minutes. You should not need to wait overnight to make the connection solid. PVC cement is actually not a glue but more of a welding agent. It melts the pvc locally so the to be joined surfaces fuse together. This process takes seconds and is permanent and irreversible. Another tip is regarding the two pvc cement containers. Many people have tipped one or both over but if you duct tape them together the chances of either misplacing one of them and tipping the set over (in the field) is very small....
Better get that crappy white PVC covered. PVC and sun don't mix well. Never buy PVC that's stored outside. I've now started using sch 80 instead of that 40.
Jim some time back, you tried a cobb spray machine on the dome interior. Any chances to revist or failure? With the cellar, is it worth another few evaluation attempts knowing what you last tried?
maybe put a top rail on before you cement. help with the leveling of it. while cementing. they do not need to be all the way at top. two screws so they do not twist. just me.
Very creative way to plug the tank to fix the leak. Great way of working smarter not harder
Hey Jim, you did a good job on the ball valves. Just a suggestion, I might have put a compression fitting after the ball valves in case you wanted to move some of the piping. That plug was genius!! Thanks much for sharing.
Jess is an artist with all that cobbing…. The pipes look awesome. The poll barn is taking shape!!😊
Jess did a great job painting the door entrance of the house. Uncommon instincts. The sign of a great artist. Kudos!
Jess's scuba diving in the desert was hilarious 😅
A way to set the poles, for pole barns is a foot of cement, at the foot, and fill it up with post setting foam.
I dont know of it was suggested, but build a box around that outlet, insulate it and it would protect it from getting stepped on or the dog digging aroud it. Just a thought, I really enjoy you guys and your progress!
yes Dog could do damage!
AZ Sun eats PVC.
Great idea Jim. Jessica you have super powers!
Consider Building a box on top of the pipes to protect them against a freak break.
Definitely cover your PVC, the sun isn’t very nice to it, it will get brittle and break.
It's very entertaining watching your videos. This was #1 for me today out of 3 so far. I wanted to apologize for my comment awhile back about the plant Jess was watering. Please forgive it. I'm old and crusty and a little bit rusty. Many blessings.
Thanks you two, it's great to see your progress. Jess, those walls are looking real nice, smooth yet textured. We enjoy watching your journey.
Sorry for the lost of your water. Next winter you will be in your house. Keep up the good work. ❤
Thank you!
get a couple cement utility boxes to protect the valves

I think you'll be surprised how fast those pole structures go up in good hands. Great job on the plumbing AND the cobbing! 👍🏻👍🏻
It’s taking shape! Very exciting!❤
Looks good. Next time I would suggest to put in some unions or union ball valves.
It amazed me how your love and patience has already amended the antisocial and crazy behavior of you adopted dog. I honestly thought she wasnt going to be able to be rehabilitated and relax and play without frenzy
Brilliant idea for water stop. I learn so much from you both. Thank you, so greatful for all you do. ❤😊
Good thinking! Its happening! Great job!
Wow you guys! Such a productive week!
Love watching you guys.
Monday morning treat for me here!
Ingenious way to save your water. The inside of your house is looking great.
Glad the pipe issue is resolved ! Well done
Thats a great repair. Maybe put a raised bed of small plants like beans or something seasonal to keep dogs from digging there and reason to keep it weeded and rodents out of there and insulated a bit in cold weather. ?? Win win win.
Darn my favorite show is over! See you next weekend
Wow yes try to save the water hope to see the complete results soon

I really like the sound tracks you choose. Instrumental soooo much better than the weird vocals some channels use.
Wow, great progress
I know Jess isn’t all that comfortable talking on camera but talk or no talk she’s amazing and talented. Both of you are a great team and very creative
I agree
Jess seems to be comfortable in front of the camera.
She's practiced for close to five years.
Maybe it's the content not so much the presence.
Nice progress guys!👍😎
Good morning hope everybody's having a great day out there and I'll stay out of the animals have a great day and just have fun and just enjoy your life hey Jess how you doing hope everything is okay we miss you guys but keep up the good work we're proud of you both of you keep keep up the good work
Sorry about the water but at least you got it fixed! Can't wait for the next video 💜
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, maybe build a wooden chest around your water pipe by the water tanks so you can isolate them and protect them.
Stopped a major loss of water, got a lot of cob done and got a mess of post in. That's a pretty good amount of progress from my perspective.
Great work…you guys are getting a lot done now, looking good !

From what I've seen your action to plug the outlet pipe from inside the tank, you lost very little water; superb plan & job! Super smart way to do it!
Yeah, Jess is really patient. The cob is always neatly done. ❤
Y'all are getting things done. Just like usual i can't wait for the next steps. It'll be great to see tge progress.
SO SMART !!! GREAT WORK!
Once you two figured out what you wanted to do with the other part of your house build, you just jumped on it and busted out a lot of progress.
Flexible hoses make more resilient connections to tanks. PVC is very fragile.
Walls are looking great!
Been looking forward to this all week!!
Good Idea on plugging the tanks..I'm going to remember that one!! We use pex after the ball valve on ours and it has been great since pex expands instead of popping.
So much for self-reliance
Love your passion and dedication. Great job❤❤❤

Very cleaver to use the water pressure itself to seal it.
hope yu plan to put the framing on those posts to square them good, Before you put in the concrete.
Great job on the homestead
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Hi guys nice start❤
It’s really coming together nicely.
I would cover that pvc pipe as it isn't uv tolerant You could even use bags and cob and then put a metal removable roof on it. Also you could add some heat tape for cold weather
I would block under the pipe real good and cover it with dirt. God Bless!!
Your repair looks awsome. How much is in the cistern? Is it enough to compensate for what you lost?
Keep being an inspiring mutually supportive team!
Rock on!
Looking good guys. Can’t wait to see the cellar done are you going to make curved shelving?
need to wrap them pipes and valves good they will freeze and break just as easy as the llitt;e pipe I have had a 2 inch valve break. So glad that you guys went with a different building method It should go up faster maybe you can have it dried in , in a few months time
🎉things are looking up
u can get 3 water valve covers and then u could just put 12" of dirt on that pipe. frost lines 12" here
Need to think about creating a surround to protect the new water pipes form sun et
I've been living off the grid all day, and you are doing it wrong, lol

Gangstagrass as the background music. Badass.
Argh. Crazy water joints. Hope you get that all solved long-term.
Need a fence so it won't get stepped on.😊
Great video. Please brace the new pipes so that your dog doesn't break the connections standing on it. Also, I neither saw nor heard any mention of a use of a level for getting the poles straight. What did you do to make sure of that? Curious. Thanks.
So many awkward moments...Jim, youre a good man

Have you looked into getting an atmospheric water generator
Don't forget tonput dirt under the new pipes in case someone steps on them they are supported and won't break
Concrete to the top, caused the poles to snap in high winds.

Ahwell, one who does not put a tap (ball valve) when first installation of tank is a fool ..
Is the large cistern you built holding water too?
Should you not have treated the posts below earth level somehow before putting them in the ground?
Jim some time back, you tried a cobb spray machine on the dome interior. Any chances to revist or failure? With the cellar, is it worth another few evaluation attempts knowing what you last tried?
Why did you not stake your post supports? Look to just be using ground only no driven stakes.
Dang, I wanted to see you make a wet suit out of black garbage bags and do a deep dive in the tank :-)
Hey sir,
Why don't you use a 2 stroke gas powered auger for holes? Save you time to relax or add saved time to another project.

🎉
I have never seen a woman smile so big at a water valve lol.
Hey Brother you might want to put something under the piping so any animals won’t get on top and break the pipe again. Just wondering 🤔
maybe put a top rail on before you cement. help with the leveling of it. while cementing. they do not need to be all the way at top. two screws so they do not twist. just me.
Sorry if I missed it, but do yall have a big level to use for setting up those posts?
