  • This is the best method, and often the quickest, for fitting reel seats to rod blanks. Video shows how to do it with either a lathe or common hand drill. The explanation on how to do this takes about 8 minutes, here, but the actual time to do it takes maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Once you know how you won't go back to tape, etc.

Thank you for the video. I can't express enough how helpful this is to view the process. Being new to rod building this is extremely valuable for us newbies. Reading tutorials is helpful, but there's nothing like seeing it from an experienced builder. Please keep the videos coming. I would love to see a video on fixing thread epoxy mistakes. If there is such a thing. You make this all look so simple.

Why no new videos. This channel and flexcoat are my favorite for me as a beginner

You've added more steps than needed.

Yes, and I said so at the outset. The idea is to offer more than one way to do this based on what tools the builder may have in his or her shop.

Thank you for this informative video. Do I understand correctly that you taper the arbors to fit the rod?

Gonna try your method as I’m not always happy with my reaming it off centred. Is there particular reason using two foam smaller arbors vs just the full length one? Figured with full length there will be less epoxy to fill in the middle portion of the grip

Don't fill in the open area between the arbors, That only adds weight, not strength. Adhesives are typically strong when applied in close fitting assemblies, not for use in gap filling. The bond between blank and arbor and then arbor to reel seat, is more than strong enough. Putting epoxy in-between them just adds a lot of unnecessary weight.

Where so you get those foam brick arbors from? do they usually come with reel seats?

Most any component supplier can get them for you. Both Fuji and Flex Coat supply them.

No way is that faster than tape.

It is faster and much, much better than tape. I took time to fully explain the process here. Once you understand it you can usually set two arbors in place in just a couple or three minutes.

I did 2 reel seats halfway through video with tape. Still informative 👌 I don't have all the tools or I would do it your way
