It's not a thing. I'm Japanese and I've never seen or heard of anyone around me using this kind of service. The Western media loves "Weird Japan stuff", so they make it sound as if these services are quite popular in Japan, when in fact it's just clickbait.

Probably because of the language barrier. It’s pretty hard to connect with someone even if there’s translator. Imagine going out on a date with a translator tagging along.
I am actually surprised he would spend the night somewhere even if it is only to cuddle, I would be so scared I would not be allowed to leave . I swear you can only do this in places like Japan because you do not have to worry (too much) about people going missing. very cute

I’ve never been to Japan other than going there to do a layover (I usually stop either at Narita or Haneda) before going to Taiwan. Thus the only places I know about Japan is the airports.
Watching videos about Japan as well as how much Taiwanese culture resembles Japanese culture makes me desire to visit Japan.
Learning Japanese and saving up so I can go there one day.
