I’m 30 weeks pregnant, I’ve been vegan for 4 years and stayed vegan, literally every omnivore states their concern and I explain ‘’my obstetrician, my nutritionist and family Dr have no problem with the way I eat especially with my blood results’’. That pretty much shuts anyone up as I’ve had nil health issues, great iron levels, great energy, nil gestational diabetes etc however I must stress that ANY woman should be responsible in pregnancy vegan or not. So for me, I really focussed a lot more on nuts, seeds, juicing greens, lentils, beans. Trimester 1 all I ate was rice n kimchi and fruit... and trimester 2 was when I ate a lot more variety, appreciate that Cheryl mentioned this...
I am interested in your first trimester diet. Can you specify your daily intake of rice n kimchi and fruit - types of each. I presume you knew reasonably accurately your portions so that you could tell your Obstetrician, Nutritionist, and family doctor. I am also interested in why you chose to restrict your diet like this. Cheers
@@helicart it was likely all she could stomach. I’m guessing you haven’t been pregnant? Sometimes you just have to eat what appeals to you as you feel genuinely rotten. If you want to be healthy, you need to eat a lot of meat. I have a lot of evidence to support my claim. Im currently just entering my second trimester and while I’m not vegan, eating meat has been an incredible problem for me this whole time. Thank you for for the reassuring video
Sorry, but the bit on B12 doesn't match the suggestions even for non-pregnant women most plant-based doctors give, that you should supplement B12 because the vegan sources aren't reliably providing enough. So yes, if some of the food is fortified with B12 that's okay but I wouldn't rely on Nori or other suggestions to get enough B12.
I love this! Thabk you. I'm 4 weeks and I've been struggling to eat well but I was so healthy and had such a varied vegan diet months before. We got pregnant the first try so I guess the diet works! But then I started eating poorly and was worrying but hearing that it's okay for a little bit in the first trimester really has made me feel positive! I'm still eating fruits thi just lots of noodles and toast. 😅
I'll likely get a lot of hate but vegan =/= healthy. Sugar is vegan. There's tons of sugary and bad fat junk foods (and drinks) that are vegan. Some vegan "alternatives" e.g. margarine, are actually worse than the dairy product. Just make sure you eat healthy, real food, whatever your diet is and regardless whether you're pregnant or not. Peace
Can you talk about silent reflux and plant based diet? I already eat a plant based diet but just got diagnosed with silent reflux. The cookbooks I can find include meat, oil, and some dairy products. The only info I can find talks about how plant based diets reduce the chance of getting silent reflux. Which isn’t super helpful, haha. I am trying to adhere to a Whole Foods plant based diet while avoiding foods with a ph lower than 5 and no onions or garlic as well. With lots of spices off the table I’m having a hard time figuring out what to eat. I also was eating a more low fat diet already but am now including more tahini & nuts for flavor and to make sauces. This is a little counter intuitive from what I’ve been told to do according to PCRM & McDougall. I am not overweight or anything so I assume that I’m just unlucky! Haha. My dr just wanted to put me on PPI’s and I did my own research to find other drs saying it’s a problem of pepsin being where it’s not supposed to be (for me it’s in my throat and lungs). Anytime I eat something with a ph of 5 or below it activates the pepsin and there is a constant lump in my throat from inflammation and it hurts to breath.
Great ! Avoid overeating, eat with small portions. Also avoid smoking and drinking alcohol (If you do). Stop eating at least 2-3 hours before going to bed. Most important, stress management ☺️
How strange that there was no such thing as a vegan diet until the 1960s when chemists developed B12 in tablet form. Before that vegans would certainly have died. Our parents ate meat, and our grandparents ate meat for good reason. Vegetarianism is still eating meat products because they're needed. Millions of people in India are vegetarians, but none are stupid enough to turn vegan.
You can choose to be vegan for yourself but you cant force your kids onto a vegan diet as it is their right to eat the nutrients they require for proper growth. Without milk, kids are at the risk of stunt growth. Vegan pregnancy has at many times proven to give hard time at the time of labour and many times the infants born were extremely weak.
I am just going to leave this here to save you the time. I will add that there are better plant resources for calcium as well especially considering about 68% of the population is lactose intolerant leaving babies and adults both uncomfortable and often with gastrointestinal problems. As with any diet panning meals for pregnancy and nutrient balance is important. The vegans I know that have children, teach them informed decisions as to what there kids are eating and make sure they are reaching their nutrient requirements unlike many others that frequently get their child McDonalds or load up their plate with meat and dairy at least once a day and don’t bat an eye at the health risks they are imposing on there child for the future. Majority of major health concerns such as many cancers, heart, stroke, diabetes and so forth have shown high correlation with more animal by product intake. Not to mention the world health organization has confirmed meat as a top known carcinogen. If you haven’t noticed many food guides have recently changed to reflect this. All this to say that to your comment the opposite is actually true. If you want more info you can go read the book how not to die. Or just browse through this site. nutritionfacts.org/video/the-effect-of-animal-protein-on-stress-hormones-testosterone-and-pregnancy.
