  • Fresno Fire Captain Pete Dern made his way from Community Regional Medical Center amid an outpouring of appreciation and support from family, friends, and row and rows of firefighters. Dern was rushed to the Leon S. Peters Burn Center after he was injured falling through the roof of a burning house in March. Burned over 70 percent of his body, he spent 165 days at Community Regional. He thanked his care team, fellow firefighters, the community and nation for their support.

This was so awesome to watch, really no words to describe the passion of human kind in general. I remember reading about and watching the footage of this, if you read this Pete, congrats on going home and thank you. Thoughts from VT-

Anyone know how long there suits gives them in a fire surrounded situation?

DeWalt Doug that depends on the suit and depends on what is burning

Adding to what was said below, the history of the suit. Ex) me and my captain can get the a similar suit at the same time made by the same company. If he's been through way more calls than I have, his suit won't last as long.

I've heard it said a 1-2 minutes but I don't know if they're is a lot of facts behind that. And wear amd tear I know can play a role in the durability of our bunker/turn out gear.....

Hun I don't think that's a good thing to put on the internet. You are pretty young. Don't attract unwanted attention from mean people online. Im trying to look out for you.

Did the fire departments in this country Learn anything from this event? Did they ask the important questions? What was being accomplished on that roof? Where was the water on the interior fire? Is it great that he lived? Sure it is but if nothing is learned from this event, it will happen again and again and again. Vent horizontally as you apply water directly on the burning material through windows. Don't get on top of it and try to stamp it out with your feet.

Save it dude. Not the time for mea culpas. This is one hell of a brave man who endured a living hell to get to the recovery that he did. He's forgotten more about fighting house fires than you'll ever even know.

I live in this county and trust me they learned a lot from this and even revised policies because of it

@@GOPMAN71 just saw your bullshit reply. He is an irresponsible idiot who was accomplishing absolutely nothing. Didn't give his family one second of respect while Getting Off on the roof of a burning building. How's that for a reality check?

Are you a firefighter? There’s standards and procedures set in place for every situation and in the event of a mistake like this happening they create more and more for these reasons. They pulled all firefighters after this situation and took a deep look as to why he was up there what happened and what the circumstances of the fire because as you should know not every fire is the same. So for real just don’t be disrespectful to this man. I wasn’t even talking shit to you i simply stated that I live in this county and what I know happened. 😂 so calm down online warrior
