Welcome! 👋 great video! Looking forward to more videos! 😀
I live in the tropics. I'm a beginner orchid grower. I have been growing plants since 2018. My seedling orchids are growing well, and the first seedlings I purchased in 2019 are now blooming. It rains often so my orchids are under the eaves. love them. Brings a calming effect on the mind. Very informative thanks
Hi friend welcome to our #carecollab community 💚😊. Great video!
Thank you, I am so glad I finally have an orchid in common to participate.
Beautiful video and plants! Thank you for this great care collab!
Thank you for stopping by.
Anything rhynchostylis is a big problem with my climate, which I was not aware of when I purchased my coerulea cross. I only recently put it into semi hydro... now I wait to see if it helps some. I have no real humidity to help me out. Really appreciate your video, thank you so much for joining in 🌸
Semi hydro is a good idea, more flexible than potting in bark. I have a rhynchostylis cross that I forgot to put in the video and it needed more water than the traditional vandas so I had to put it in a pot but kept it media free as a compromise. I lay a towel on the roots and soak it in a bucket often. Thank you for coordinating!
What an EXCELLANT Vanda vlog ! I started out thinking my Vandas needed a medium around their roots (in wood baskets) That didn't work out so I changed different medium i.e. Coconut Coir, Large Bark, Lava etc. Now they're "hanging on" ...but.... not thriving :( Guess I need to root prune to stimulate some activity. Once the weather becomes warmer (I'm in zone 7b) they will go back out.
I should have clarified that I think it could be ok to root trim to tidy up the roots if they are outrageously long or sticking out of place so I am not sure if root pruning will be beneficial as a way to stimulate activity.
How old is your vanda? Blooming age vanda can also be stunt growth if it's not getting enough water or nutrients. Thank you for sharing.
@@MamasOrchids Many of the roots on this previously bloomed plant seem to have died :( I assume from being in a medium. They've become thin, dark brown & do Not have _any green tips. Upper growth is just sitting there so I know it still has some Life left in the plant.
Hey Glenn you know I am now thinking coconut husk fiber! I'm gonna give it a whirl with my Vanda Mariae that isn't doing well.
@@BBQNBLUES thanks for the compliment on the video. Getting better at editing on iMovie ;)
Hard to tell what is wrong with your vanda’s dying root without having more history but it sounds like possibly not enough hydration. Sometimes we think that it rotted from too much water but it may be dead roots thinning and then we try to soak it and dead thinning roots will rot. Dead parts will rot more easily than live parts also. I hope this makes sense.
You have such pretty flowers
Thank you!
