Just beautiful. I remember first seeing Bauhaus live in 1982 then again in 1983 before losing touch when they disbanded shortly after. Time has proved just what a talent Peter Murphy is.
The reason he does that with the mic is because of the power he projects from his diaphragm as you see he sings balls out power and if he did not pull away when he exhibits such force on certain phrases it would probably buzz and feedback with too much bass I myself am also a barritone blessed with power like him and Dio and Meatloaf sometimes in order for us to sound good we truly have to sing balls out to hit those notes and of course the passion comes through!

From what I've seen in his other live videos, he does it too in other live stuff (there's a live video of him doing "She's in parties" where it's more subtle, and another of him doing "Cuts you up" where he does it). It's not just him either, a lot of singers do it, but they don't really try to control it as much as he does.
This song will forever remind me of a certain someone that broke my heart in 2....but that's okay because I put it back together...stronger and better!! ;-)

When he is doing his own live tour performances he has a killer sound system in place, so doesn't need to control the vocals through moving it himself, so it kinda really threw me! But gawd, he is such a good singer and performer, and just all around way cool guy. :) Got to meet him like 15 years ago when he was touring and he is so personable and just a guy. With his ultra hip stylistics encoded in even the way he moved, etc... back in the day, I thought fer sure I was going to be dismissed as a mere hic presuming at artistry. But no! He was quite nice. :)
