As Malaysian i must say that the developer boldly use their folklore as medium of culture introduction is quite good especiallly the indonesian have widely media of horror genre especailly film and quite refreshing to see player running away from kuntilanak (pontianak in malay folklore).
Yeah, one of the things that I love about the horror genre is that despite cross-cultural differences, everyone on the planet pretty much universally likes spooky shit.
Before DreadOut the best thing Indonesia ever invented was Rendang. After DreadOut Rendang is still the best thing Indonesia has ever invented but this game is still pretty cool i guess. - a cultured American
Awesome seeing a video about this game after I just beat all 3. DreadOut will definitely go down as one of my favorite indie horror games right next to Cry of Fear
Thnx fam. IF you want to give it a shot it goes on sale pretty often and you can probably beat it in a few sessions so you won't have to clear your schedule or anything.
I swear someday I want to play all of those old-ish horror games like fatal frame, dreadout, kuon, ju-on the grudge, stuff like that. Riiight after I clear my backlog.... yeah..
Your short recap of Indonesian history is actually pretty damn good! 2:58 Oh, Soeharto. Thank God you didn't talk about the history of when he was in power because this video would've been like 25 minutes long lmao.
That pig is scariest pig ive seen in a game, since getting gored by STALKER's boars. Also tighter the budget, the tighter the gamep design (ideally anyways).
Game looks dope, but I think you're really underestimating the horrors Indonesia underwent during the Cold War. Def recommend reading "The Jakarta Method" by Vincent Bevins if you can stomach it.
The game's seem to have been relatively successful so I'm sure there will probably be another one at some point. DreadOut is a niche title in a niche genre, so I doubt it's ever going to pull numbers but the budgets are small enough to where they don't really need to.
@@snesbagel haha people do the same in videos of the taiwan's horror game Detention. In that case it was very relevent. Not sure in this case though. but i did add this to the list and subbed so its a win
Waaaah ! Woke ! Waaaaah ! I can't believe they made a girl main character ! Sega's Phantasy Star is the first woke game. Waaah ! Remember when racism was actual racism ? Waaaah.
I like DreadOut series. It plays like a game, feels like a game and has genuine horror. I didn't expect them to expand things with DreadOut 2, but that was great to find out. I hope they get to grow their game industry.

Fatal Frame at home... But the home cooking is pretty good!
Great video dude, keep it up!
Good job. Definitely streaming this at some point.

I'm shedding tears of happiness. I didn't know that Mordecai was this based.

I'm glad to see a video on that game it's pretty interesting imo
You make some awesome stuff. Nice video man. Lowkey want to play this now

As a non-american I appreciate your open mind towards foreign media.
Considering how consolidated entertainment is becoming here, I doubt America is gonna produce much of anything that's worth a shit for much longer.
@@snesbagelHey man, plenty of American indie devs releasing bangers.

what a neat game, for some reason i saw this title before and just expected a jumpscare fest, gonna have to give it a try now
There are jumpscares but most of the fear comes from the atmosphere and imagery.

25 minutes long and probably a lot more depressing.
Another excellent review
10:48 This bit right here single-handedly makes me want to check the game out myself. It hits just right.
It was a really well-done scene.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video dude very dreadful out video haha🎉
one thing I like about game development is game development. What I find interesting is game development.
Same tbh.

I'm well aware of what happened to the country, I just didn't really have space to cover it in this video
I wonder if DreadOut will ever get a resurgence, I've seen some edits online. Survival horror is making somewhat of comeback.

@@snesbagel The sequel was pretty well received IIRC, and the studio is working on a new game

Oh no you discovered my nefarious scheme. IT definitely wasn't because I found the topic interesting and relevant to the video, no sir.

Would love to know what songs starts playing around the 3:40 mark ngl
It's from Silent Hill, "Killing Time".
6:15 Gone Home was the start of the DEI and wokness in games. Everything went downhill since
I mostly pin Gone Home as the point when the video game industry started taking itself way to fuckin' seriously.

As someone who is Indonesian, I'm sad I never played this title for myself, was caught off guard with the wave boomer shooters and immersive sims.
