omg this game has been one of my favorites since i watched PewDiePie play it as a kid. such an awesome story i love seeing it get a bit more popular again recently
Oh my god, I love that game! Not just bc I do find it pretty scary, but all the metaphors and the deeper meaning of the game I think is one of the best portrayals of depression in media
The mortuary assistant scares me because the thought of working on bodies just scares me. Like I can handle slasher films and I have a interest in learning about organs and the human body but the actual process of working on a dead body in the game makes me so gross I couldn't finish watching markiplier play it
I was fine with the game then I ended up in the hospital and needed a tube installed between my ribs and the doctors messed up and didn't drug me right so I ended up with some PTSD. I went from being able to look at the game normally to not being able to look at it without convulsing uncontrollably.
I played Fatal Frame as a teenager (like 15-16) when it came out for PS2 and it’s STILL the scariest game I’ve ever played. I’m pretty sure I never finished it because there was a point where I actually got too scared to continue. But it is a game anyone who loves horror games absolutely has to experience.
I am a big smooth brain too and when I see puzzles in games, especially horror, I start to have PTSD. Thanks to the Silent Hill series for starting that
I was so scared when I played the 2nd game(first Fatal Frame for me) that I had to pause the game for hours before I could continue.. And soon after that the Broken Neck Woman appeared and I cried from fear and my friend had to play for me. xD
I think the reason why the Scooby Doo ghost is so freaky is because most of us SAW that in our lives (and maybe were scared of it at one point as kids too). It's not some over the top completely unrealistic monster, but something you can imagine in real life - as you said yourself with the cloth physics, them being so realistic adds to that. And then there's that fear of being slowly chased by something unknown that just MAY be under the familiar sheet... Also, slowly, SLOWLY, I hate slow chasing, it strikes on my nerves, there's no adrenaline release by running away from something that runs after you, it just creeps after you like death itself, I hate it 😀
100%. That ghost in the beginning of the first live action film scared me, extremely. I couldn't look at the box of the dvd until I was a teenager because the ghost was on the side of the box and always visible on the dvd case. Another DVD case that scared me as a kid was The Omen (2006 ver) cause a Jackel/goat head was on the side of the box with a red cloak on. Finally the last DVD box that scared the fuck out of me was Bagul's face on sinister cause that was the only recently new movie that scared me as a teenager when it came out. Something about that demon just terrified me, even killing the whole family in "creative" ways, including the kids - then taping it.
Great job Zeark. I can tell how much work went into this video! It may not seem like it but 1 video a week can be tough, especially as a 1 man operation! Keep it up man.
i absolutely LOVE watching all the different reactions people have to the scares when they play mortuary assistant, it helps that most events are randomized, especially since its being added to almost regularly.
SCP 087-B is easily one of the scariest games IMO. SCP Containment Breach is pretty scary too, but the OG easily takes the cake. The atmosphere of 087 is tense and eerie throughout the whole playthrough. It has a dark, mysterious, and intense atmosphere with a chilling soundscore; it also gives a claustrophobic vibe considering all you do is descend an endless dark staircase. The chase sequences and jumpscares are unpredictable and terrifying. I can never sit through gameplay without getting jumpscared or feeling extremely tense. I couldn't imagine how terrified I'd be if I actually tried to play it lmfao.
You should watch Autopsy of Jane Doe if you haven’t already. Very certain it’s what Mortuary Assistant is inspired by, and it’s a fantastic horror movie.
This is my first introduction to your channel and this video is sooo good, I have trouble staying engaged with content I watch sometimes and I was able to watch this all the way through. The variety of the games you’ve played is honestly impressive, I can barely complete one horror game
I think one reason why I like Zeark so much is that whenever he starts to go off on a tangent or just waffles a bit, he cuts himself off in post and immediately goes back to his main point. Its a small detail but it adds so much and doesn't let the listener get bored. Keep up the good work
I love Fears to Fathom because the games actually scared me, at some point when you consume a lot of horror content the supernatural horror stops being scary and you start to appreciate the "real horror" games like FtF.
I played the Mortuary Assistant and it is definitely on par with Visage, Amnesia, and P.T. as one of the scariest games I have ever played. The sound design was absolutely spine chilling and the subtlety of many of the scares means you are constantly looking over your shoulder throughout the game expecting something to happen. It was definitely a very suspenseful and frightening experience overall
I thought he would mention “At Dead of Night” for some reason. Not only has it a great review, it’s also unique and unsettling from its atmosphere and playstyle.
I love watching other people play horror games because If I tempted not only am I god awful because of having slow reaction skills but I get scared so easily, even being in a safe room with a scary atmosphere will make me terrified
Madison is probably one of the scariest games to me. It scared me so bad I had to step away for a few days. I'm good with puzzles so it was definitely more scary than frustrating. Song of Horror is also good. I have a massive fear of the dark and the sound design is pretty neat. However, the puzzles are a bit difficult. One of Chapter 5 puzzles was difficult devs had to release a patch for it.
Soma not being in the series so far is a crime of biblical proportions. (No seriously, ya gotta try it out. It's legit one of THE best horror games out there)
I didn't expect you to start playing Fatal Frame and definitely didn't expect you to enjoy it! I always think that the first Fatal Frame game is such a hidden gem and I can't wait to see you play more Fatal Frame games. My personal favorite is the fifth one.
Glad you enjoyed Fatal Frame! Its my favorite horror series! Fatal Frame 3 is my favorite in the series and also my favorite horror game ever. I hope you keep going with it! The Xbox versions of the first 2 games also change a lot of thing, like adding a FPS mode and new endings. The FPS mode is super worth going through imo. Also if you have a PS3 the first 3 games are $10 each on the PS store, that's my favorite way to play them! Enjoyed the vid and looking forward to the next one!
Great video! This is a bit of an acquired taste but one of the greatest horror games I’ve played is Harvester, it’s an old 90s point and click game that uses full motion video meaning nearly the entire game is live action, it’s puts you in a creepy 50s aesthetic with gore and comedic moments
You have GOT to try the Silkbulb test. It is the most unique horror game I've ever played. It's a demo so it's short. It won't take much of your time but man will it stay with you. It also needs some recognition because it's just so good.
12:58 That scare with the air conditioner reminds me of a movie (can't remember the name), where the protagonist lost his wife and their bird (parrot?), which used to be very talkative whenever his wife was in the kitchen, has been silent ever since she died. Queue the night where he wakes up from a noise, and sees there's light in the kitchen and hears the parrot speak for the first time in years. Such a great spook for the same reason as the air conditioner: Because you know there's something there, you just don't see it. It's a modern spin on the "The Calls are Coming from Inside the House" urban legend/horror story that has roots all the way back to the 50s or 60s.
good video! even though i cant play horror games (because theyre terrifying) , im always curious about scary media and games. its a pretty cool list, good work
I played Luto many months ago, so most of the small details are gone. But the MOMENT you said "do you know those small spray things that go off whenever you walk by?" I laughed out loud cause IMMEDIATELY I remembered that little terrifying piece of shit sprayer scaring me constantly
My fiance is a funeral director and begged me to play mortuary assitant with her, she says for a video game it does an acceptably accurate job at depicting real life embalming, it is a very tedious and unattractive process that will terrify most people to begin with, let alone all of the paranormal aspects of the game Mortuary Assitant. I highly recommend giving the game a try, it shows in intimate detail the process that the vast majority of us will go through when our time comes.
I discovered your channel with the first talasophobia video. And I'm very happy that you're doing great in UA-cam, your way to explain or show content feels funny, and at the same time relaxing, calming comfy. Like a really chill video, even if it's horror content. The background music makes me feel like. "Yeah me and my paralysis demon are very comfy in my bed watching your video, and I'm not even trying to cry for help" P.S: I don't know if I explained myself. English is not my first language :)
Alien Isolation with the VR mod or Resident Evil 7 with VR on are both terrifying. I’m not easily scared because my favorite genre is horror, but let me tell you that seeing enemies right in your face have to be the most terrifying thing to exist. Non VR game wise, Visage has to be the most terrifying game I’ve ever played. Like Madison, it involves many puzzles with little to no help, so I would advise a walkthrough or be prepared to sit there for a while figuring things out. Absolutely terrifying though and would recommend to anyone who loves horror.
The original Prey game much like BioShock could be piss your pants scary at times. The condemned series is also pretty good. The first one has so many good levels.
as someone whos played many horror games in vr, FNAF vr "scared" me to the most aswell due to having to do tasks while getting scared, whereas most others just didnt "scare" me 26:58
Oh also Shipwrecked 64 is a terrifying indie horror game that turns into a mini ARG. Would recommend it, it's so underrated. It has a slow start but turns into one of the scariest games I've played
As someone who wants to be a mortician the first game was BEAUTIFUL to play, I got so stuck in the flow of the embalming that I didn’t notice like three jumpscares in the beginning lol
i remember watching jacksepticeye's lets play of the mortuary assistant. i usually never get scared enough to like throw out whatever im holding. but one of the jumpscares in the game made spoil my drink all over myself XD
Playing 15 games just for a video, that's commitment. I personally love games that have a story but also have lore or little extras here and there to make the immersion even better, to me In Sound Mind, White Day, Mundaun, Martha Is Dead and The Heilward Loophole are some of the best titles out there
You gotta play home alone in the dark and get immersed. If you don’t take a game serious and play during the day with people home with you there’s no shot you’ll get scared.
when you mentioned jumpscares being activated after the perspective switches to a certain angle, i immediately thought of until dawn. i've played it myself and i remember being hit with those sorts of jumpscares and i cannot stress enough how badly it scares me lol
wow man, this is the first video I've watched on your channel, never knew good content like this even existed. great job Zeark. oh, also I'd suggest this horror game called Still Wakes The Deep. I'd like it if you'd try it out
I think the white sheet woman from Luto is actually a really good twist on your typical monster design. Because usually you associate white sheet ghosts with the "friendly" kind of ghost. But when you grab that concept and make it into a straight up threat, it works wonders. It leaves you questioning "what's underneath the sheet, is it even human or just has the shape of one, is there anything even underneath the sheet?" It's peak fear of the unknown, and I really do hope they don't reveal what's underneath the sheet in the full release. Also, Luto is a Portuguese word for "mourning." So make of that what you will.
Im so glad to see when people experience the Fatal Frame games for the first time because they’re just that good! It’s up there with the Resident Evil and Silent Hill games when it comes to survival horrors and I hope a FF6 happens
I’d recommend THE classrooms (POOLS level) I’m not sure if it was the demo version or something it was very creepy and atmospheric there’s not really a story or anything just vibes
Hey Zeark! Just wanted to drop a comment saying that I absolutely adore your content! I started watching you and subscribed about a month ago during a very big move to another state and just a lot of life changes in general. Your videos brought me comfort, made me smile and laugh, and scared me out of my jimmies lol. I’m an avid horror lover and your content just really hits for me. Keep up the amazing work, I’ll be here for all of it! Hope I can catch a stream at some point! ☺️
23:10 I feel like I'm insane for hating backtracking because everybody seems to love it in survival horror games, but I absolutely can't stand it. It just feels so tedious
I remmeber seeing Madison and Luto playthroughs when they first came oit, and boy talk about goosebumps and rising tension, those 2 where terrifying AF. This was good intro to your channel man!
No that's facts bro. FNAF VR is fucking terrifying. VR in general amps the scare factor 1000x and for some reason FNAF VR just becomes that much more terrifying.
Ngl when i was younger i was so scared to play bo1/2 zombies i straight never made it past the first section i prolly couldnt make it past too this day
Fatal Frame is awesome. The first game was so scary for most players that they had to tone down some of the stuff they wanted to do with the sequel lol. 2 is the fan favorite, but 3 is my personal favorite, it just feels like the culmination of everything the series was building up to and still remains the most polished one for the most part. All of them have their flaws, but there's always something really good to keep you playing.
I no longer really get scared by playing horror games anymore, I get tense especially playing games like Outlast but I don't really get scared, until it comes to VR fnaf help wanted genuinely has a terrifying atmosphere and the scares themselves are honestly not that bad its the lead up to them that really makes you shit your pants
I worked hard on this one for you guys so I hope you enjoy!

Playing 15 games just for a video, that's commitment. I personally love games that have a story but also have lore or little extras here and there to make the immersion even better, to me In Sound Mind, White Day, Mundaun, Martha Is Dead and The Heilward Loophole are some of the best titles out there
Dude when I tell you I locked myself away for a week.. I mean it 😭. I wanted to try Martha Is Dead but didn’t get around to it!
@@Zeark it's a very heavy game, psychologically speaking, you'll definitely need to take breaks
You gotta play home alone in the dark and get immersed. If you don’t take a game serious and play during the day with people home with you there’s no shot you’ll get scared.
Yeah that’s another reason this video took a while to make I’d pretty much exclusively play them at night with the lights out
when you mentioned jumpscares being activated after the perspective switches to a certain angle, i immediately thought of until dawn. i've played it myself and i remember being hit with those sorts of jumpscares and i cannot stress enough how badly it scares me lol
wow man, this is the first video I've watched on your channel, never knew good content like this even existed. great job Zeark. oh, also I'd suggest this horror game called Still Wakes The Deep. I'd like it if you'd try it out
Dude I just discovered your channel and you’re a great balance between comfort and funny. Love this! 😛
Absolutely do brand deals. You deserve the bag
Im super excited for the new Fears to Fathom game to come out!
"fuck it, next shit show" boom new transition thank me later
Interesting fear. I'm actually the victim of an attempted home invasion. Not a pleasant experience but I can't say it's ever kept me up at night.
11:05 Luto actually means Grief in portuguese, very much on par with the game's theme (and its current state)
Im so glad to see when people experience the Fatal Frame games for the first time because they’re just that good!
Great work, love the actuallay scary format ❤
Excuse me, "only just a week"? My man that is more than enough for the work that gets put in
23:10 I feel like I'm insane for hating backtracking because everybody seems to love it in survival horror games, but I absolutely can't stand it. It just feels so tedious
just wanted to say I discovered your channel a week ago and have watched p much all ur videos lol. Thx for putting out such fun genuine content!
You talking about home invasions stuff reminded me of a movie called "when a stranger calls" that movie to this day makes me paranoid when I'm home
15 games in a week is crazy dedication! Subbed
All of them have their flaws, but there's always something really good to keep you playing.
just found your channel and gotta say youre making pretty good videos! i will binge watch them all
I no longer really get scared by playing horror games anymore, I get tense especially playing games like Outlast but I don't really get scared, until it comes to VR fnaf help wanted genuinely has a terrifying atmosphere and the scares themselves are honestly not that bad its the lead up to them that really makes you shit your pants
