      The king gets active in the endgame, as Herojit said, where most pieces have been traded, and the king can walk around relatively or completely safe.
      Though, you may develop your king in certain scenarios where you don't see any threat or ocunterplay, or you can calculate a route for your king to hide in safety somewhere: sometimes you can build a mobile fortress for it, or it can hide in the most creative of ways (11:06 is not really a complete endgame, but it conveys the point).
      A full video on this would be great tho.

      This, plus also how to activate your king, sounds dumb but in some end games I get "stuck" on which way to go, would probably be very short to answer this but I'm visual so seeing would be awesome

    • @EMoritzxD
      @EMoritzxD 3 роки тому +5

      just buy a book or watch a few hours of theory on youtube if available, the only way you can learn is by repetition so after you watchted a few videos about an opening go ahead and play it. play it 100+ times and analyze your games.

    • @seankopper2233
      @seankopper2233 3 роки тому +4

      Worked on this recently and I agree with@@EMoritzxD . Only thing I would add is it helped me to draw out a physical map of moves that could happen for the first 3-5 moves so I have answers for most of the major lines. So I worked out that ill stick to e4 and b3 as my opening moves as white. When e4, I know that my response to Sicilian will be grand Prix Attack and I'll play Kings Gambit against e5. Mapping that out for both black and white has helped me focus my opening study to just the theory I need. Then I just play a lot of games with those openings and watch a few videos on them

    I’ve known how to play the basics of chess for a while now but ever since I’ve really tried getting into it I’ve been stuck anywhere between 700-1000 but I can tell I’m not keeping up with a lot of my opponents. I’m not huge into chess but I watch videos here and there for tips and tricks but I can never seem to set up anything because I don’t know how to see their defensive moves from 2-3 moves ahead even. Hope to get better through practice and such but if anyone has tips on how to know when they’re defending or when I should give up the setup , etc that would be amazing. And even a book on this type of matter would help a ton cause I’d like to think that I pick up chess easily and I understand why certain moves are made but sometimes it looks like they’re doing absolutely nothing to defend and then two moves later I’m the one that’s trapped.

    Hi Levy, thanks for another useful video. I’d like to see a tips video on general endgame technique. It’s easy to find videos on well-known endgames such as Philidor, Lucena and various K & P combinations. It’s also not tricky to find general tips like activate your king and use the opposition. However it’s hard to find anything on how to convert an endgame with, say, a rook, knight or bishop and several pawns in an arbitrary structure. When I watch strong players play I see them carefully anticipating and thwarting their opponent’s ideas, looking for tricks with knights and rooks, controlling key squares, trading off pawns indirectly (ie not just PxP). I appreciate that endgame technique is extremely complex but a guide or guides showing some of these techniques, and others I’m probably not aware of, in action, with your unique presentation style, would be brilliant. Hope you like the idea.

    Levy you are quickly becoming the best chess instruction on youtube. I hope you read this. There are several meme-like phrases that all chess masters seem to use that mean absolutely nothing to beginners. "Activating your pieces" is one of them. I know you are trying to explain it, but it would be much much more helpful if you could break that phrase down into 5 to however many other smaller things that fall into that category. How does a beginner tell the difference between "activation" and "over-aggression"? There needs to be some smaller objective measures you can explain that feed into this reasoning that pieces need to be activated. Thanks for your time.

    • @underslash898
      @underslash898 3 роки тому

      I think one key difference between activation and over-aggression is not pushing *into* the enemies position unless you are trying to break through or have a very solid defense. Activation however, is getting your pieces into good positions where they can do the most damage when needed.

    • @SumNutOnU2b
      @SumNutOnU2b 3 роки тому

      The best answer is "sometimes".
      In this game, where you indicated, it would have been bad because if black tried to trap White's Bishop by playing b6 then white could check by moving his other Bishop to a6+. Black's king would be forced out, letting the queen capture the d5 Bishop and probably leading to a quick checkmate.
      Sometimes it can be good though. You just have to be able to calculate whether you will be able to keep your king safe
