This was awesome! I grew up watching the Apollo program and played “space” with the neighbor kids. These guys are my heroes! Because of Fred Haise and everyone involved back then, we are on to Artemis! Thank you for your service, Fred! The nation has Moon Fever again! 🚀😃👍

I would love to meet Fred Haise if I ever get the chance. I got to meet Jim Lovell about 15 years ago at his now-closed restaurant in Lake Forest, Illinois, which he co-owned with his son, Jay. Even though Jim Lovell still lives in Houston, Texas, whenever he was in town, he'd visit the restaurant and say hello to the guests.
As a big NASA fan, with one of my favorite movies of all time being Apollo 13 (a mission I take particular interest in, like Tom Hanks, who played Jim Lovell in the movie for that very reason; Jim Lovell called him a "closet astronaut" in the DVD commentary, even though he originally wanted Kevin Costner to play him due to the physical resemblance), I will admit, I was a little starstruck meeting one of my heroes.
I had a short but very nice conversation with him, even mentioning I was in the Boy Scouts, which he also was (he even made Eagle Scout); he told me to stay in Scouts (sadly, I wasn't able to make Eagle like him, but I came close). I was even lucky enough to get my photo taken with him! He was the first astronaut I ever met out of several, and easily the most legendary of them.
Meeting Fred Haise would round out meeting the surviving Apollo 13 crew (unless you count Ken Mattingly, who was bumped off the mission three days before the launch due to exposure to German Measles by Charlie Duke and replaced with John L. "Jack" Swigert, who sadly passed away from cancer in 1982, shortly after being elected to Congress from the state of Colorado).
But I'll say this much: if any of the surviving crew members, Ken Mattingly included, survive for long enough to when we land humans on the Moon again as part of the Artemis Program, they should be given the opportunity to finish what they started 50 years ago and finally set foot on the Moon themselves. It's only right that they get that chance.

I met Fred Haise at my job one time. He was such a nice and gracious man and spent several minutes talking to me when he didn’t have to. Took a picture with him which is one of my favorite photos I have.

How do I get the book? Thanks Mr Haise! I grew up in the 60's and 70's in Satellite Beach, and went to Ga Tech, became an engineer because of, well, the life you lived.

It was a crime when they cancelled Apollo 18,19 and 20. I wish all the astronauts had gotten a chance to walk on the moon.
