One-Week Test Drive: 2024 Lexus GX SUV...Worth the Wait?

- The 2024 Lexus GX is finally here...replacing an aging model that's been around since 2010. So was it worth the wait?
This new GX is a three-row midsize SUV that shares a platform with other Lexus and Toyota trucks and SUVs -- think Lexus LX, and Toyota Land Cruiser, Sequoia, and Tundra pickup -- and shares their lightweight ladder frame.
*Powertrain*
Under the hood of the 2024 GX is a new twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine that makes 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel-drive. It replaces the older V8 in the previous GX and is a jump of 48 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque over the older engine!
*Overtrail Trim*
The 2024 GX also introduces the Overtrail trim, an off-road-oriented setup at the top of the GX lineup that adds a locking rear differential, adaptive dampers, crawl control, downhill assist control, and a suspension with independently detachable front and rear anti-roll bars.
*Exterior*
Design-wise, the 2024 GX presents a rugged yet refined exterior, with a square-body profile and a bold front fascia that incorporates the Lexus spindle grille. It comes in three main grades (Premium, Luxury, and Overland, and then each of those is available as a + model, which adds a few more amenities).
*Interior*
Inside, the GX features a luxurious and modern cabin, designed with a lower, horizontal instrument panel for enhanced visibility and a spacious feel. It comes standard with a 14-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a digital 12.3-inch instrument panel. The vehicle seats up to seven passengers, though the Overland model is two-rows only and seats five.
*Off-roading*
For off-roaders, the GX includes features like a limited-slip locking center differential, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, and the Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) for optimal balance and wheel articulation. It also boasts Crawl Control for low-speed off-road maneuvering and Multi-Terrain Select for customized driving dynamics based on the terrain.
*Safety*
Every GX model is equipped with full-time four-wheel drive and a suite of modern infotainment and safety technologies, including the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, offering a wide range of active safety features.

Fuel ratings were stated at 17 city, 21 highway, 15 combined which common sense tells you is wrong. City is 15 and combined is 17, which is closer to what you got…

Questioning your credentials when you compare it to unreliable vehicles, such as a BMW and Mercedes and the Hyundai Genesis. Lexus reliability for weigh all these brands.

This vehicle is NOT polarizing.
I will stick with my Volvo, much smoother and refined ride and much better gas mileage. This one looks heinous....I mean really ugly for this price range.
Overland only having 2 rows makes it useless...just sayin. Also...my goodness it is sooooo ugly

A Stilantis product. You better do some homework, check out UA-cam videos on Stilantis brands. On t he other hand Stilantis/Jeep/Ram are dropping in price big time. No one is buying them, hopefully Stilantis will sell Jeep, Ram and Chrysler to someone who can improve quality and bring back a once great American car company.
